Hey /b/ros,
Can I have some advice on what I should change about this PC im about to buy in order to make it better?

>Intel Core i7 7th Gen 7700 (3.6 GHz)
>8 GB DDR4 1 TB HDD
>Windows 10 Home 64-Bit
>NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB GDDR5

$1,100
>>
>>725001894
better PSU trust me
>>
gtx 1080ti
>>
get the gtx1080 since its lower price now
>>
Save money and pirate windows 7 from a free recovery disk online. You can get them directly from windows website. Windows 7 is way better than 10. Windows 10 corrupted it's own system files on my computer at one point.

Use an activator to get it for free and there you go. Google "Daz activator" but be careful cause there are too many fake links.
>>
>>725001894
is it one stick of ram or 2x4GB? I guarantee you'll want more pretty soon.

that's one of the main things I was wondering was about the ram. What's the most to get without it being pointless?
>>

another good point, but do they make SSD drives over 250gb? I couldn't find a nice size one
>>
>>725002420
It depends on what you do, check the system monitor to see if you actually need more, keep monitoring while using it as you usually do.
>>
Look into seagate firecuda hybrid drive. Has SSD cache and a hdd. Very fast and holds a ton of storage without paying for a large SSD.

I dont do much because I never really had a top of the line PC but I want to be able to play the best games at the highest res and best fps. Is 32gb of ram too much though?

>Intel is currently better than AMD. The general performance of a 3.6GHz AMD Ryzen 1800X CPU compared to a 7th Generation 4.2GHz Intel Kaby Lake Core i 7 7700K CPU is slightly weaker, and yet the AMD processor costs hundreds of dollars more than the Intel equivalent.

Does anyone else have an opinion of if Ryzen is better or not? Should I get it instead of intel?
>>
>>725003497
By the metrics they used to test the 7700, it comes out on top of the 6900k, which is $1000+.
You don't know what you're talking about.
>>
>>725004187
Ryzen will age much better. Also, because AMD reuse CPU sockets, you have a better upgrade path.

obviously, because I pasted a direct quote from pcworld...so you're saying they dont know what theyre talking about?

I still need to throw together Kaby Lake and Ryzen builds.

Bits of advice.

Instead of 8GB go for a single stick of 16GB.
It will be a better long term investment and allow for easier upgrading in the future if you so chose.

If that means you go from an i7 to an i5, unless you feel you're going to need hyperthreaded cores, I wouldn't be crying.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Wq2HQV

Here is the last Kabylake build I threw together (still no i7 variant) keep in mind this contains some things you will not need, you can ignore them or remove them all together.

Another bit of advice

SSD > HDD

All day every day.Even if it means you get a smaller 128GB SSD for a while. Just run all of your common programs there and run a few common games on it. Then buy a good 1-3TB HDD for games and other shit.

It's easier to add storage than it is to copy everything you want over to an SSD.

(I'll throw in more to keep the thread alive)

>>725004963
lol here is your (you)
>>
>>725004475
I'm saying they're purposefully only showing benchmarks where the 7700k shines.
It's like saying that the Tesla is the fastest car in the world because it has a fast 0-100. As soon as it hits the track it's a slow POS.

Also, Windows task scheduler needs to be updated to take advantage of SMT, and BIOS optimisations etc.
It's early days. Ryzen will only become better over the next month or so.

>>725006062
It actually isn't 8GB is still the 99.9% will be enough for gaming.

The REAL reason he should get 16GB is due to the fact most 170 and 270 boards have support up to 64GB of ram with four slots.

That happens to be 16GB per slot. 4x16

You don't have to fill all slots to make 64GB, the computer will not explode if you put in 4x8 to make 32 or 4x4 to make 16. It's just generally better practice to leave room for upgrades rather than have to completely swap out your ram.

you wont be able to afford much higher than 2666 if you're budget building. it's advisable to get a ssd for boot disk even if it only leaves you limited funds for storage. also, consider that your CPU will be doing a shit ton of work, where you video device may only be picking up slack on some games.

dual channel is over hyped and overrated.

I fell for the dual channel meme when I did 2x4 to make 8. Then did another 2x4 to make 16 and now see a future of maybe wanting 32.

Whatever performance you think you're going to get with dual channel, you can probably get more by overclocking ram and lowering its latency.
