1. Who says I don't think the government shouldn't be involved in this case for reasons unrelated to inelastic demand? For example, insurance can't be sold across state lines which leads to monopolies in certain states. I'm assuming that comes from government interference.
2. Inelastic demand doesn't mean that companies can gouge you because there is always another company which can undercut the competition and drive the price down.
