I went to school for Game Art from a shitty technical school and was ok at the 3D stuff but realized I love painting, so thats why I asked what type of art you do.
Sounds like you stay relevant by keeping up with the latest tech trends, which from what I understand is really important to 3d and tech artists. That was one of the things that sort of pushed me away from 3d, mostly because I am lazy/wanted to focus on learning the fundamentals of art and drawing really well instead of focusing on technology. But that's just a difference of personal preference, to be honest if you enjoy keeping up with the tech then you are doing the best thing you can to stay on top.
