If you're in the USA, the police are legally allowed to lie to you on official paperwork and in their statements in order to collect evidence of a crime.
If they're interviewing you, I would never do so in the first place because what they collect cannot be used to help you in a court of law, it can only be used against you due to the rules of evidence.
I would go, ask if I'm being detained or am I free to go, and would not show up without a lawyer or ask to see my lawyer when they asked the first question.
Don't sign anything without a lawyer present, and remember: they are allowed to lie to you. They might say,
"oh you're not a suspect."
You have no way to know if that is true.
If you say anything during the interview other than am I being detained or am I free to go (if they say you're free to go then leave), and I'd like to talk to my lawyer, you have only hurt your case.
