Why is the increase in global warming a bad thing anyway? There is a cycle of the Earth. If the cycle is decreased, does it really matter all that much? Sure, people are going to lose homes on the beach and it will get a couple degrees hotter in a couple centuries. But species are destined to die out to pave the way for new ones to rise in different conditions. Humans want to slow climate change because of greediness and the will to continue living a nice life, which is why we started polluting in the first place. It made the world a comfier place. Everyone claims it is already past the point of no return(which doesn't even make sense because it was just sped up, not altering a course). So no point in trying to slow it down now. We are fucked regardless.

Okay, look ... way back when, before the dinosaurs by millions and millions of years, the Earth only had ocean life. Eventually organisms and plants evolved to grow outside of the oceans and seas - they moved to land. It was mostly plants that moved, first. During this time a large amount of plant materials evolved and grew into some of the Earth's first kinds of trees. They were massive by those days standards, but had very small root systems as that hadn't yet evolved. So they fell down easily. These primitive trees also had a lot of an early form of outer layering, like bark. These trees and forests, as well as many other plants, took in CO2 just like the plants of today. They then emitted oxygen as a byproduct.

Still with me? These were some of the earliest trees and forests.

Now remember how I said animals and other organisms hadn't really gone to land as quickly? Well the same goes for micro-organisms that hadn't evolved on land in order to break down the bark and the new tree life. So when these large, heavy trees eventually fell down they'd just lay there and not rot away or decay. The decaying process requires organisms and bacteria to break down that material. Those bacteria and organisms didn't exist yet. So you just had tons and tons of trees growing and falling down, growing and falling down. This happened all over the planet for millions of years. Over time the trees falling down compressed the previous trees that fell down. They were compressed, compacted, and buried.

It took a very long time for bacteria to develop that could break down that kind of organic material, but it did eventually happen. So now you have tons of them and when leaves and a tree fall over it will eventually decay and break down.

Now when the trees break down now the organisms break up the CO2 that the tree is holding and releases it into the air. Now remember that ancient forest? It didn't do that because that bateria didn't exist yet. So instead of having that CO2 that the forests used to grow breaking down it was buried. Over millions of years that material compressed and changed until it turned into something called coal. Other similar processes created oil. When burned they emit CO2 because that's what they're made of. They're literally ancient plant life that didn't decay and release it's carbon back into the ecosystem.

Now let's look back at what the temps were during the time period of this ancient forest, because the CO2 levels were much, much higher. The global average temp of having all that CO2 in the air would cause a 50 degree F increase in global temps. That's what it was before all that CO2 in the air was trapped and locked underground.

By burning that carbon we are releasing it back into the atmosphere, with absolutely NO way to capture it and bury it again. We could plant as many trees as we wanted, but unless we can stop the decomposition of those trees when they die, the CO2 is just going right back into the air. So every bit of carbon we take from the ground and release into the air we are slowly teraforming our planet back to this early state, when global temps were so high it was nearly unsurvivable for us as a species.
