Yesterday's thread was pretty successful

Let's get an audio production thread

Looking to get a midi keyboard. Any suggestions?
>>
Launchkey
>>
>>723843873
Been looking at those, the price seriously can't be beat.

How do the keys feel? I love me some weight
>>
>>723844271
I've got the 25 key and honestly they feel garbage. I don't have much to compare them too, but I can tell they're not the best.

I'd imagine the bigger ones have better keys
>>
Akai MPK 2 Mini
>>
Bump for suggestions; I went to guitar center looking for a decent midi controller but they all feel like cheap plastic garbage. I don't need another synth but the cheaper rolands and korgs they had on hand play far nicer.
>>
I feel its best to do everything with the voice, like in the end of this song.

https://mrzach.bandcamp.com/track/rappers-damnation

Just got finished mixing it actually.

Digital MIX or BTFO!

Hell yeah I agree. If it doesn't feel like a real keyboard I can't use it

Thank you (: Somebody who recognizes true talent.
>>
I sold my launchkey for a samson graphite and will not be looking back
>>
Not really much under $1000 eh
>>
>>723843795
I want to get into making music with a launchpad. Any suggestions for a beginner? Recommended starter launchpad?
>>
>>723846891
you're an idiot who doesn't really understand what understand what a launchpad does... learn the basics first then work your way onto launchpads... or don't... once you produce you'll probably realise how unnecessary they are for anything other than live performances
>>
I started out with the M-audio Axiom A.I.R mini 32 using Cubase 5. Then upgraded to Samson Carbon 49, the controller itself is not that expensive and plays alright.
>>
For logic pro x I use an m-audio code 61, but honestly you want one with weighted hammer action keys so it doesn't feel like shit. So I also have a casio px-130 paired with it, so it feels like I'm playing a real piano.
>>
>>723847465
note: 88 key is almost a necessity
>>
>>723847151
this, launchpad's just a toy, they aren't for making music

Yeah I'm not sure whether to get a 61 or 88 key for my tiny apartment

Kurzweil master race.
The PCA3** serves me well.
It's a bit pricey..., but I do this for a full-time living.
>>
>>723847151
>tfw I just think they look cool and want to be like pogo
>>
Full sized cheapee with pitch thingy. Software for everything else.

If anyone has a MIDI Fighter Spectra or 3D and wants to sell it PLEASE let me know

Used one at a house party and loved it, but I just found out they're discontinued and there are only a few left on the internet

>>
>>723849231
I paid about $3100.00 new.
It's a good controller.
>88 keys?
Can you count???
Okay..., yes.
>>
>>723849428
plz

I think serious players are scarce (or non-existent) ITT.
>>

What does this do??
>>
>>723843873
Seconded. Love mine and it was only $200
>>
>>723851060
That key weight though?
>>
>>723845018
This. Had mine since Christmas and it's been fantastic

Not technically a keyboard but I highly recommend the ableton push. Its an amazing midi controller .

>>
>>723851651
>$800 and comes with demo ableton

lmaooooooooo
>>
>>723851613
Like I previously implied..., it's a retarded toy.
>>
>>723852295
Dude that thing makes bitches' panties drop

Put some effects on it and they can remix any song no problem

They love it, and standing with you in the DJ booths at parties

Everyone's seen a keyboard
>>
>>723851810
I bought mine used after already owning ableton for a long time. Also you can get the push 1 for real cheap now. Dont waste your time with the lite version of ableton though
>>
What's the best way to make a decent drum beat with just a midi keyboard?
>>
>>723852600
You know what really "makes bitches panties drop"??
Composing and arranging actual music as a full-time career..., and getting paid well to do it.
>>
How do I get into production? Is there any good resources y'all could point me at. I just fuck around on flstudio for now.
>>
>>723852963
Would never want a hobby to be a job, that'd ruin it for me
>>
>>723853369
>production
The answer depend on what you mean ny "production".
What do you want to produce?
>>
>>723853504
It beats the hell out of having a "real job".
>>
>>723853369
Big difference between making your own music for recording, or messing around with already produced stuff and mixing it
>>
>>723852914
Depending on your program you can turn the sensitivity all the way up so that you can get even hits that will be more like a drum pad.

So like the note will play full velocity no matter how hard or soft you hit the key. I find this very useful when limited to just a keyboard
>>
>>723853369
youtube tutorials . Im so serious , you can learn so much from other amateurs!
>>
>>723853560
Hip hop, making a good beat, sampling. Maybe record instruments and shit if I can git gud. I play the guitar and have a good understanding of theory, so that should help.

I havn't produced anything in awhile, but I worked really hard on this stuff when I made it.

I use a launchkey49 and an ableton push when producing, the combo is sweet.

Kurzweil anon again.
Some folks know me from /mu/ where I sometimes give career advice.

So..., I'm going to give you food for thought based on my own **really OLD-fag's** experience.
(And I mean that literally.)
From the time I was 4 or 5 years old, I was always totally obsessed with music & became an early "ear player".
I grew up in the 1960's (early rock..., Beatles..., Grateful Dead..., etc.) & thus went through my period of dreaming of rock stardom. Played in lots of bands..., you get the idea.
Ultimately went to Berklee College in Boston, MA for my undergrad (ultimately a BA in Music Composition-Class of 1976). While I was there I came to realize that, while I was definitely passionate about doing music, I had no interest in the "performance" (on stage) side of things.
Eventually I also got a MFA in Electronic Music, too (it was kind of the dawn of synths & samplers, etc.)..., but that's neither here nor there.
Anyway..., I made a whole lot of invaluable contacts when I was at Berklee (both Prof's & other students--Pat Metheny & Mike Stern were classmates, for example). This was a really good thing.
So the long & short of it is:
Since graduating..., & through those contacts..., I have managed to make a pretty good living composing/recording the musical scores for Film/TV/Theatre, as well as writing/arranging pop songs for the Disney bitches at 'Hollywood Records. .
Now..., I am not famous..., & I am not insanely wealthy..., but I do own a nice house in suburban NYC, managed to put two daughters through college without student loans, & I own my own studio in the City.
All while never, ever in my life having had a "straight gig" (real job).
So..., all in all..., I would deem the endeavor to be a success.
Hey..., it sure beats the hell out of "working for the man".
So..., my final sage advice to young music-fags:
Set realistic goals.
>>
>>723854761

hit me up on here. I have no training of any kind. I this stuff is flawed, but I'd like your opinion on it.

>>723853369

If you stay electronic it's fairly easy. That's why I use an electric drum kit and a synth.

If you're recording guitars, vocals, drums etc... it's a fucking HUGE project to get anything to sound even remotely good, and costs tons of money for the right mics, compressors, consoles, etc....

Not worth it in my opinion when we have electronic convenience in this age. The only thing I bother to record outside the wire anymore is vocals.
>>
How easy is it to isolate an instrumental from the vocals?

I'd be interested in investing in production hardware/software if I could mash songs

Hey mang, there's like daily threads on /mu/ about this shit.
Besides, midi keyboards? Really?
Everybody ever has their "EDM project" or whatever these days.
Play a real instrument and some real music for a change!!
>>
>>723854761
Thats real cool man, thanks for the motivation. I'm thinking about doing a production MA at Berklee Valencia campus, just requires $42k, so i better start selling some organs, need a kidney?
>>
>>723854996
Kurz-fag here.
My 2 favorites were 'Pop Jam' and 'Lady bad luck'.
Objectively, and on the whole, I's say that you seem to have a good ear for matching complimentary electronic timbres.
Being critical..., my feeling is that the intros to all of them should be about half as long as they are.
I always get somebody I trust and respect to listen to my stuff because I know that I am prone to a form of confirmation bias when I listen to something I've been sweating over.
Only my good friends with tell me:
"Yeah, dude..., it's cool..., but the first 30 seconds is boring as shit."
I usually act upon their feedback.
>>
what should I use if I want to make synthwave shit? I figure I can't splurge on hardware, but what VSTs should I go for?
>>
>>723856746
I've got both hardware and software synths, the best purchase I've ever made is Omnisphere by a mile, it does everything so well.
>>
>>723856337
OP here

I play piano and need a new one, figured I'd invest in something I can use electronically also

Don't know a thingle from a dingle
>>
>>723857084
Studiologic sl88, its incredible and well priced.
>>
>>723856374
I went to the main campus in Boston.
It was expensive back then too.
My dorm in Boston was right across from the "Combat Zone" (prostitutes, porn shops, strip clubs, etc..).
I got a gig along with my roomate (drummer) playing "bump & grind" music in one of the strip clubs.
That's how I helped to pay for it..., that and selling dime bags of weed on campus--lol.
>>
Here's a silly modification I made to the "Newstuff" project.

>>
>>723857350
That sounds like a hell of an experience, back in the 70s though I'm sure the world wasn't as over saturated with people trying to get into the industry like it is now. But we have to chase our dreams regardless of how high they are...
