It's ridiculous how much information people don't question, but still parrot. It's nothing new though, the printing press created a similar phenomenon. It was fixed by tying such information to a publisher with a reputation.
Now however, information comes from individuals, not publishers. We have no system for tracking reputation in place. Why not fix that? We could use a service that tracks the reputation of accounts on websites people get news from.
If we had such a service, major publishers like *cough*CNN*cough* might even stop parroting the same bullshit everyone else is retweeting.
