STEM get in here. Tell us what you do.

What CAD-System do you prefer?
>>
>>723718360

I like Inventor. Nice and easy.
>>
I use Solidworks
>>
paint-CAD
>>
>>723719019

>I use Solidworks

Pretty similar to Inventor in my opinion though it's from a different company of course.
>>
>>723719167
Relatively, but it's the industry standard so it's pointless to argue merit when everyone and your company already uses it.
>>
>>723719044

>paint-CAD

Never heard of it. What it's used for? Architecture?
>>
>>723719367

>it's the industry standard

What industry do you work in?

as an enginering student I often drawn machine shafts in MS-Paint - that's what paint-CAD stands for

>Automotive

Isn't CATIA V5 standard there?
>>
>>723720044

>as an enginering student I often drawn machine shafts in MS-Paint - that's what paint-CAD stands for

I did technical sketches for my Bachelor thesis with Power Point. Those weren't part drawings though.

>inventor
what's the difference between that and Fusion360? modeling wise
>>
Anyone else studying mechatronics here?
>>
>>723720055
For a Chrysler/GM/Ford, probably, but the folks I'm working for use solidworks.
>>
>>723720303

part modeling, pretty much nothing. there is some higher "top-Down" modeling techniques like multi-body solids and using an excel file to drive multiple parts but if you're looking for a good and cheap part modeler, go with Fusion360

solidworks, one project of mine a few years ago
>>
Autocad at work (its meh) but i do love Solidworks its awsom
>>
>>723720566

Also, I work for an Autodesk reseller, I'm bias since I work there but I do like Inventor, ACAD is shit, and anyone using _ LT is an asshole
>>
Anyone got any interesting projects going on right now?
>>
I got a question
I'm not an engineer but working with 3d programm too like cinema4d
It looks quite similar to the pics you post but not as technical would say
What are the biggest difference?
I'm looking to get some of these
What is the best to start?

NX

Difficult to learn in combo with teamcenter?
>>
>>723721617

can you enter exact measurements for your 3D models in Cinema 4d?

if you want to go back and make modeling changes in the early steps of the model, can you?

those are usually the 2 biggest factors.
>>
>>723720980
Neat
Are those wheels custom or is it a of the shelf thing?
>>
>>723718360
I prefer solidworks but i like to dick around in autocad 3d every now and then
>>
>>723721667
oh god no
worst CAD ever
>>
>>723721941
...no, that spot is taken by CREO.
>>
>>723718360
None, they are all absolute shit
The one that I have to use is solidworks
>>
>>723718360
I'm a computer scientist. Not an engineer, but technically still a STEM. I don't use CAD systems because the things I build don't have meaningful physical forms, but my favorite toolchain is GNU.
>>
>>723722089
This.
Solidworks is just bae, no one should even need anything else for 3D modelling really.
unless you're poor or cant access it anywhere.
>>
I use SOLIDWORKS as its what my uni has told us to use, in my experience with inventor I find it a bit more user friendly but its still pretty technical when you need it to be.
> 3rd year of masters in product design engineering (basically industrial design)
>>
Creo for the win!
>>
>>723722325
whats the difference between design engineering and product design at uni?
What would you recommend, unbiased opinion?
>>
>>723721836

Both yes
I'm working in a design agency
I use it to build packaging and traid fair stands so I have need exact measurements and change it a few times

>>723722768
CATIA is aids mate, why would you use something like that?
>>
>>723722544
theres a product design course which is part of my department and its essentially learning the design processes etc. like pughs model and concept generation and development, and some enterprise stuff.
whereas with design engineering its all this but with alot more manufacturing and engineering knowledge. you learn at lot production engineering and a lot of what mechanical engineers learn, so its a lot easier to actually bring products to life and manufacture them, given you have an eye for design that cant be taught
>>
>>723718360
First of all, what does STEM stand for?
Second, why do you use inventor?
Third, are you from Germany, Austria, Switzerland or some other german speaking country I can't think of right now?

Oh, and to anwer your question I prefer Solidworks because I have the most experience with it and therefore work the most effectivly with it.
>>
>>723721667
>>723721941
Our uni is sponsored by semens and now we use this shitty inventor remake kill me
>>
NX but Solid Edge is still in my heart
>>
>>723722226
i guess you could still use CADStar?
>>

>>
>>723722917
If you don't like it, it's because you're mentally weak. CATIA can do fucking everything 7 different ways and is the most loyal to engineering and mathematics of anything out there. It doesn't hold your fucking hand and it doesn't forgive you - deal with it.
>>
>>723719019
I wouldn't recommend solidworks for 2D drawings unless you plan on photoshopping them afterwards like I used to do. Goddamn, that was a pain in the ass to do. It's much better for 3D parts though. Finite elements also is quite lacking that I know of.
>>
>>723723203
no problem, id highly recommend doing the engineering course as its a masters and will be a more versatile degree in industry
>>
hey guys where are your 3d drawings used?
can I see some of your finished works? I'm interested
>>
>>723721762
Unless you are using that for PCB creation or a laser, that design will not work. You will have massive deflection in those linear bearing rods. Your gantry and lateral slides need to be stiffer than a wedding dick. This is six wet noodles.
>>
>>723720338

i don't actually know anything about CATIA, i would like to, something either than solidworks but thanks for your response i made me laugh.
