Topics available mostly depends on where you go to school and what professors are there. You get in by applying and being persistent. If you're really interested, start talking to a bunch of professors and you'll find some who can help you.

>>
>>723434913
Yes, actual projects solving an actual problem or discovering something. It's often things a professor wants to do themselves but doesn't have enough time to. Sometimes you can convince a professor to help you with something you want to do, but that's kinda rare.

Had a cousin who got bored of college and decided to drop out. Now he jumps from shitty job to shitty job(He literally works on trucks that empty out septic tanks) He lives with his gf and her dad, she's a raging alcoholic that hates him and will probably kick him out soon so he'll have to live with his mommy again at the age of 27. With that being said, make sure you've got income you can live off of. Otherwise, stay in fucking college nigger.

Depends on the topic and field. There are programs that give you a stipend to encourage research. Sometimes you can get paid directly if the project you'll be working on is well-funded. Other times you'll probably get your money as a teaching assistant. It's basically what you do to get a PhD, but you can start early if you can convince a professor to allow you on a project. Frankly, getting into research early is the only real benefit to going to a big name research school as an undergraduate. As for tips, mostly it's about making a connection. Talk to your professors, be smart, and act smart. If it's a topic you're interested in, and enjoy talking about, this won't be too hard. Find professors during their office hours and politely ask if they could talk with you about it. Sometimes, you'll have to wait until there's an opening in their lab, since they can only keep track of so many student projects.

Details on my story. I became a Christian sr year of highschool. Needed to decide on what to study in college. Panicked and picked a psychology program with a school that also trains people to become missionaries. I enjoy helping people and yay for Jesus ladadada but now that I'm a jr (close to being done but classes are getting hard) I just can't see myself being in those fields for the rest of my life pretending to be someone my school is trying to make me into that I'm not. Not to mention to pay for those fields is mostly nonprofit.

>>
>>723436780
There's plenty of psychology research that needs doing. What are your options on transferring?
Well, you could also work as a lab rat, some experiments pay you.
>>
>>723437265
Just shoot them an e-mail. Be polite and professional. Find the professors that do the work you're interested in, in the places you're interested in. You could also start going to conventions. It's a great way to meet people and learn about the latest advancements, and they're often free or heavily discounted for students. One of the benefits of staying in school.

I dropped out of college because the classes were a joke a scam a waste of time and money.

I did learn shit by myself 2 years in a row trianing my self learning English practicing by myself.

Then landed a job a year later started doing freelancing 2 years later i got a parternship with a company a year later i got an small company 10 employees wife car an soon to migrate to anoter country.

Not sure if there is a recipe for success but i was constant never give up on myself and over all pursue realistic goals and i still doing it.

Cowardy and lazyness wil be your biggest roadblock. Be a doer not just a talker and never expect the same result if you do the same over and over.

Is so simple but people dont fucking get it

The psychology program I'm in currently the head professor has a phd from Harvard. Im lucky to be in that program and with my grades the schools I'd transfer to would probably be a downgrade. My options are basically stay put, community college, or drop out and just figure it out myself (unless y'all can help me think of more). I'm well liked in the program and always have good things to talk about in discussions but the work load is just killing me. I just don't have the passion or time to do the assigned homework.

There's a dozen tricks to get yourself to do the work, but they do stop working after a while, and then you're stuck with the burnout. Biggest reason I decided to stop with a Master's degree instead of going for a Doctorate. In the end, it's up to you how long you want to keep pushing yourself. In the end, making money is less about what a piece of paper says, and more about what work you can do. If you have a skill and work hard, if something interests you, you'll do it, and you'll find someone to pay you for it (exceptions made for obviously useless skills and tasks). It won't be easy, but life ain't easy. Honestly though, unless you have a skill, most work will be very monotonous, like data entry. It's worse than homework in a way. What counts as a skill is surprising actually. Being able to use Excel well is sufficient to get a job.

That's good advice. So when you apply for a job what you really need is skills. If you learn these skills on your own does that carry as much weight as having a piece of paper from a college that may or may not have taught you the skills you needed. What I'm basically asking is how much does a degree count for in being hired? If you learn a skill outside of college how do you prove yourself to someone trying to hire you? And bonus points for anyone that list the most important skills someone needs to have to succeed in life and in a job

I dropped out as a junior. I my case I had only started because I didnt know what to do after high school, so I just picked something I was vaguely interested in and started taking classes. I was never really excited for about school and it always felt like a grind. I ended up in a spot where I hated my life because of it. It was a huge waste of my time and money.

If you are going for something you are passionate about though, and you are just feeling overloaded, you should slow it down and take fewer classes, or take a semester off to get your head straight. Life is not a race! You dont have to cram until you burn out to be successful.

For me, I realized my life would be hell locked into a career I didn't want. So I just started working full time, doing whatever paid the rent, but I left a lot of room in my life for my hobbies. Now I shape and sell my own surfboards which is a dream come true, fill in the gaps waiting tables a couple days a week, surf all the time, and I am really very happy with my life. I don't make as much money as some people and I live pretty simple, but I know a lot of people who do have money and still dont have what I do, ya know?
>>
>>723440357
How much having a degree counts is very heavily dependent on the type of work. A degree basically means jack shit in programming and web design, you prove yourself by having a well made web site showing off your projects. On the other hand, you can't work as a doctor if you don't have an MD (obviously). As for the skills that are most important, everyone needs to understand finance. Regardless of the field, you have to be able to manage your money. Beyond that, doing proper technical writing (memo, e-mails, letters) and having good presentation skills also help you get and keep jobs. Knowing how to make connections with other people and utilizing your connections to help you get jobs and resources. Beyond that, programming is useful I suppose.

All of it can be learned online, sorta. There's plenty of articles about all of it, giving advice and proper form. Finance will mostly take a lot of time and research, but the information is all online. Writing and presentation you'll get advice for, but you'll need practice; best to get help with that while you're still in college, it shouldn't take too long. Hardest is properly making and using connections. You'll get some advice online, but it's mostly trial and error until you get the feel for it. As for programming, well, you can skip it. I just threw that in since I see a lot of demand for it, but any skill that's in demand will do. Though if you are interested, there's lots of good online resources and tutorials about coding. Only way to learn anything is to just start doing it.

>>
>>723442502
Yeah, thing is, they throw that on there, but not all of them actually care. As long as you can prove you can do the work, and present yourself well, they're willing to overlook the degree. Obviously it's easier to get the job with a degree than without, but there's enough work not getting done that it's not a big deal. There's also fools with a degree who couldn't write a hello world program without a tutorial.

Question. What all does /b/ do for work and or studied in school
>>
>>723444155
You can drop all of your classes. If you have more drops.... are you in Europe?

In america you can drop all your courses and then if you're not over the drop limit and you've dropped by the drop date it doesn't count against you. That way you can go into the field that's relevant to you and take it at your pace.

It sounds to me like you want a business degree with a minor in English - so you can learn the proper way to do technical writing.

My point about thinking like a nerd is to consider the time you're spending as an investment. If you fuck around now you're going to be completely 1000% screwed in 30 years. The whole gamer brain thing was basically a comment about how you should play your economic status like it's a game you want to win because it is and you do. You also need to think about what to do when you fuck up and the rock climbing thing doesn't work out. How easy will it be for you to do something different then?

I was in Mechanical engineering before I dropped out. Now I have a job where my boss pays be above average amounts of $$ to learn how to code at my part time job. It's not a living, but it's good enough for right now. Unfortunately I probably won't be able to retire. Yay!

I used to regularly go to a guy I know's house. He graduated from college with additional technical training as an electrical engineer, computer engineer and programmer. He was my drug dealer. He could not get a job in his field because he was "far too overqualified for any entry level position." Having a business degree should open almost any door you want honestly. It gives you the right to interview for a lot of jobs. It will also give you all the know how you need to start your own business. Owning a successful business should put you in a really nice position in life. You should be able to use it to gain wealth and set up actual passive income - passive income is real but only if you have a lot of money to start off with. The English minor is just going to help you with writing and communicating. You should be able to get a job as a HS teacher if you want with this combination of skills too. Communication is an undervalued skill as well. Honestly a Business major and communications minor would be good. Communications major and Business minor might actually be better. Communications majors are better than most people think. At the very least you'll be able to market yourself better than most with any of those three combinations.

Essentially this combination lets you be "the type of guy to put my full force into something when I do it" while owning your own investments giving yourself a good shot at financial stability and not have to work for someone else doing shit you hate.

This is really something you should take time to plan out though. You know yourself better than I know you. What do you want to do with your life.

Also don't drop out of college specifically to join the military. That is top tier cuck shit. If you're going to go into the military then you should finish your degree before you enlist so you get the near automatic higher rank.
