- Inefficiency/Lack of competition: The federal government is awul at this kind of thing...look at the healthcare industry. The more involvement , the less competition and the higher the prices.
- Privacy conerns: The more involved the government becomes, the more internet companies will enter into incestuous relationships with the bureaucracy, making their data the government's data.
- Lack of innovation: Things under private control tend to perform better in general. Look at private vs public schools for a good example.
- Lack of simplicity/transparency: The net neutrality rules adopted two years ago were over 300 pages long. That's just the beginning. It's a slippery slope, people.
Long story short, I think the ISP industry would serve us better the freer it is.
