I love what I do, I mean I work on fucking rockets. But the pay is shit, however I did come into this company as a fresh graduate and a total wildcard unknown. I've proved I'm far from an idiot and can throw punches with the best of them though but my contract renewal keeps getting delayed and my pay is TERRIBLE considering how much work I put in for the company.

I've been offered more money elsewhere, considering using it as leverage else I'm jumping ship.

My health insurance through work is like 200 a month. That's the highest tier with dental and vision AND I have a 500 HRA which is like 500 dollars in tax free money to spend on healthcare/prescriptions/etc per year.

So while our fucking system is broken and such it still works for a lot of middle to upper middle class people.

And I pay WAY less in taxes than 'peans

+ Most things (consumer goods, food, clothing, etc) are cheaper in the US and we have no shitty VAT only local sales tax

>>723056004
>Probably not higher at all when you take into account the cost of health care and medication.

That's only for some people. It's an unfair system so I come out ok for example but my friends family are fucked because they are poor and have shitty jobs.

I would say that upper middle class Americans do better financially that upper middle class Euros and Aussies.

I lived in Australia for 6 months and I worked with Belgians/Germans for like 10. Spent a month or more at a time over there and when we compare our lives they were generally envious.

That all joke about gun violence though like that evens shit out. Except I don't live in fear of that shit because I live in a nice area.
>>
>>723055939
Just had a look, picked Texas as I figure it's kinda conservative so you'd think has lower tax? Difference between take home pay (eg after tax) in Texas vs in anywhere in Australia (we don't have funky weird different taxes between states) it was $104,000 in Texas, $100,000 in Australia. We get a whole lot more government services for that 4k difference. Wouldn't cal that anywhere near much higher tax rate.

>>

We also don't have any BS weird different sales taxes, just a straight 10% across the board goods and services tax so everything sold here, the amount on the sticker price is what you pay. We don't have to tip because people earn a living wage. A $20 steak in a restraunt here is $20, there it's tip + tax. Electronics are cheap as we're part of asia, doesn't cost much to shop it here.
>>
>>723056602
2007 the dollar would have been $1 AUD for $1USD. We tax non-residents at a high rate though so probably would have paid a lot higher income tax rate.
>>
>>723056602
>>723056576
yeah and I realize there are things that CAN and MAY even this shit out too.

Higher overall quality of life
Less violence and crime overall
Trumpless gubment

So before we go down that road let me stipulate that for the record. There are plenty of people who would never come the US for any amount of money, for valid reasons and some silly fucking bullshit reasons.

I wouldn't want to live in Belgium for example. Fuck that place raw.

Australia I could totally live in but that's a fucking easy transition because it's a lot like the US and I'm not even counting the language. I actually wish it were less like the US tbh.

>>723056803
Cool, yeah sales taxes are funky. There's a reason for it but it's a pain in the ass. Still I pay 6% and only locally. Most internet goods have no tax so there's that.

Also our HIGHEST local sales tax is 10.25%, in most places it's lower.

Tipping is a whole different argument.

>Would suck having to travel to Vegas for gamling and legal hookers but I could live with that.
Gambling is available outside of Vegas. Beside Atlantic City which is dying there are Indian casinos all over. If you are just poker focused there are legal poker casinos in FL and California and prob other states.

I live in the conservative south and I can drive to Mississippi or Alabama, or drive to the coast and get on a Casino boat.

As far as hookers go, getting an escort is very low risk at the mid to high end. Most municipalities don't actively police that shit unless it becomes a problem. Most escorts/agencies are more likely to get fucked by the IRS than the cops and they don't go after johns unless they are famous/politicians or they are picking up street hookers or fucking kids.

Yeah that Superannuation stuff sounds cool on paper. I have some reservations but I think it might work in the US

For example for me >>723051705
I get a 50% match on 8% contribution to my retirement account. So I only get it IF I contribute and only 4% if I contribute 8%

However, I also get another 3% "gift" per year although I have to be with the company for 3 years before that vests. Once it does it mine for the previous 3 years and from then on.

So the max my company contributes is 7% against my 8% contribution.

But I also have the choice of pre OR post tax dollars when it comes to my own contributions. So I can pay taxes now and withdraw taxfree in old age or put in pre-tax dollars now, reduce my taxable income and get some money back from the gubment to spend OR invest.

But I feel like legislating a min 9.5% company contributions would lower salaries and reduce overall choice. At least in the US market. But my god would it help out some dumb motherfuckers who are too stupid to save and reduce the burden on social services of old people.

I'd like to see what others get for retirement benefits too. I think that makes a big difference.
