ITT: we stop whining about the voting system and propose actual solutions.

It is very clear that the election was rigged for Drumpf. America is currently in crisis mode, so here is how we fix it...

>Everyone under 25 gets a 5x multiplier since they will have to live with the consequences the longest.

>Everyone who is between the age of 26-49 gets a 2x multiplier.

>Everyone aged 50+ vote's counts as 0.5 as they are matured to the point of having frequent health risks, and not having to worry about the outcome of elections.

>Everyone aged 70+ (A.K.A Baby boomers), votes dont count for shit because they are wrinkly old fucks on medicare and will die very soon anyway.

>African Americans get a 5x multiplier for 188 elections since thats how long they were restricted the right to vote, aswell as being victims of racial discrimination.

>Any other Americans of color gets a 3x multiplier for 100 elections as compensation due to white oppression throughout the 20th century, while contributing to our society.

>Women get a 5x multiplier for 144 elections since they were restricted access to voting, aswell as being sexually oppressed.

>Anyone who is a part of the LGBTQ community gets a 2x multiplier stack due to being victims of homophobic discrimination.

>Anyone who is a part of the Islamic faith gets a 2.5 multiplier due to currently being victims of racial discrimination.

>If you have a PhD diploma in gender studies, your vote will get a 3x multiplier since we dont want dumbasses making decisions for the rest of the country.

>Illegal immigrants count as a single vote REGARDLESS due to having poor quality of life, UNLESS they are in possession of a green card. In which case they get 3x if colored, 5x if of African origin.

Example #1: A white 50 year old woman with no degree's vote will count as 2.5

Example #2: A black 19 year old woman's vote will count as 25 votes

Example #3: A white 40 year old man with no degree will count as 2 votes

Come on people its 2017!

We get rid of the first-past-the-post system for the electoral college and let each elector vote independently of the other electors in their respective state.

Written where in the Constitution? Have you even read it? From Wikipedia:

Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the Constitution sets the following qualifications for holding the presidency:

be a natural-born citizen of the United States;
be at least thirty-five years old;
be a resident in the United States for at least fourteen years.

How does he not meet these qualifications?
>>
Simplest way to fix the shit: you have to pass the Citizenship Exam given to naturalizing citizens. If you don't pass, your vote isn't counted and you get to try to pass the exam again in 4 years.

the system is outdated now i understand that it was to prevent one state holding power but guess what when most ppl live in cities on the coasts it makes some states "more equal" than others. the amount of electoral votes was based on the population in 1800 something. nowadays popular vote would be much more fair because of the internet and globalization. also people arent limited by where they live anymore. laws that were good for cold places arent good for hot places type of thing no longer matter because of technology.

>laws that were good for cold places arent good for hot places
You just proved why the electoral college exists. And how is it more fair? Using NYT's own math, Wyoming has 160 times the voting power of California. If we went to popular vote, they would have zero power. There would be no chance at all of them having political influence. If California is unhappy with the feds, they can create their own laws for their own state. They feel they should get to dictate the laws of the whole damn country when it's none of their business. That's why we have a federal system and state's rights and an electoral college that enables both.

And yes, I despise California. I hope for a successful Calexit.

Just because younger people have to deal with the shit longer, doesn't mean they should decide what's best for the country. Older people have more experience. What you suggest is moronic because the idea just throws equality out the window. Ever hear of every man is created equal? That's why you're a fucking moron. >>
>>723051002
>first of all be man enough to call him intelligent
I don't think he is, I find him repugnant and all I hear from him is liberal privilege. I have never heard him make a decent and somewhat original argument.
>malcom nance im sure was a spook wats ur point
Once a spook, always a spook. It means that he likely backs the globalist agenda and will spread disinformation to those ends.
>understand my argument that the system is outdated
I do, but how is popular vote better? Because more people live on the coasts? It would complete the total disenfranchisement of the midwest and south from national elections. If you lean liberal, don't you care about those people having a voice too? Or is it okay to leave them behind because they're a bunch of white rednecks who should just be happy with the Progressive order?
>supported by factual and logical arguments
I only deal in those. It is a factual and logical argument to say that popular vote would lead to total disenfranchisement of everybody but California and New York, and that this nation is too big and too diverse to have a national agenda based on two population centers.

and today's award for idiotic posting goes to.... OP.

> and propose actual solutions.

Eliminate the rezoning and gerrymandering of districts. Have districts generated by computer to each reach a population threshold based on census data, and only census data. Have districts re-zoned following each census to ensure parity of population is updated regularly.

ie, State of X, district 1, 2, 35, etc. each one comprising of a population of 100,000. or 50,000, or whatever.

Even, fair, representative by population.
>>
>>723052949
A real solution. We could take it one step further by dividing electors by district (Nebraska) or by population centers (Maine). It would debase the "tyranny of the majority" by allowing rural areas to be heard too, and it would not require a Constitutional amendment.
>>
>>723041392
Your logic is nonsense. A presidential term is a short period of time and the next president can undo whatever was done under the previous administration. So giving younger people a stronger say makes absolutely no sense.

What does make sense is making America a proper democracy. Eliminate the electoral college - which is specifically anti-democratic - and the presidential veto (which is also bs). Give full representation to residents of DC. Ensure that the Cabinet is only made up of elected people, not just the President's mates. Eliminate executive orders, as they are also anti-democratic.

>>

I already pointed out that America is not a democracy. Try reading, Cletus.

I didn't say an elected cabinet. My suggestion is that the cabinet should be selected from the people elected to represent the people (e.g. senators and congressmen) - like in EVERY OTHER COUNTRY ON EARTH.

Veto is one man's word against the elected majority. Your point makes no sense.

The Capitol is intentionally left out for neutrality's sake
>Ensure that the Cabinet is only made up of elected people
The cabinet is approved or denied "withe the advice and consent" of the Senate. The people already have a voice.
>Eliminate executive orders
That would be impossible without a new Constitution, as the President has sole authority in certain areas (such as foreign affairs).

It sounds like you are advocating the Parliamentary model, which has the problem of being too democratic. Our system is designed for stability and separation of powers to prevent one branch from running roughshod over the government. The best solution would be to repeal the extra powers delegated to the President, especially since 9/11.

everyone under 25 is too stupid, emotional, and inexperienced to make good voting choices. The sweet spot is the 25-60 group. Over 60 is too out of touch. Under 25 is too young to know anything useful about politics, and they're usually all idealists with foolish utopian ideals.
>>
>>723055868
Definition from Wiki because I don't feel like rewriting it:
>A republic (Latin: res publica) is a form of government in which the country is considered a "public matter" – not the private concern or property of the rulers – and where offices of state are elected or appointed, rather than inherited. It is a government where the head of state is not a monarch and government leaders exercise power according to the rule of law.

There is a democratic component to our system, and the modern usage is conflated, but pure democracy is the absolute power of the majority and has been referred to as "tyranny of the majority".

You aren't accounting for parliamentary democracies. You're thinking of direct democracy.
Truthfully there's a trend of republics being federal jurisdictions presiding over autonomous states, but to be honest it crosses over to the provincial structure you find in most democracies right now. But there's no concrete rules about this, we're not observing a fossil record of political systems we're creating them, and their structure is always going to be heavily influenced by cultural details. I don't mean cuisine or ethnicity, but municipalities with ties across borders, former mergers with other nations, historic events with fundamental laws etc. I think you could get away with using democracy and republic interchangeably if you were to set up a micronation now.

Yes. My in-laws are from Austin, however, most people from Austin are not Texas natives. Nonetheless, that was a rather cherry picked example, but okay.

Secondly, it's part population, part state borders. Again, going back to why the electoral college was established, founders were affraid that a state like Virginia, which had the population of higher than the next three most populous states combined, would just win the election every time because Virginians would vote in a Virginian since people from their own state considered themselves citizens of their state more than the country. The electoral college number is equal to the number of senators and representatives (house) in congress. This means sparsely populated states receive a disproportionately favorable amount of electors.

For simplicity, imagine a country with two states. Each state gets two senators, however, state 1 has a population of 1M and state two has a population of 500k. So state 1 gets 2 representatives in the house and state 2 gets 1 rep. For electors, that means State 1 has 4 electors and State 2 has 3 electors. State means for every 250,000 people in State 1, they have 1 vote in the national election, however, State 2 casts an electors ballot with just 166,667 people.

This made enough sense back when there was no nation state cohesion, but no one doubts that the United States is indeed a nation state, despite the occasional cries of secession.

There are countries that offer free college/education in general and free health care and it's none like that. Most of those countries have the highest living standards in the world even. It's not like this never has been tested before. You could see what works in other countries and improve the things that aren't to make living better for everyone. Instead you chose to propagate fear.

I am living in Austria and I did not have any depths after I got my college degree in computer science and getting a serious illness like cancer would not ruin me financially. Should I lose my job for whatever reason I am not in danger of losing my house or my possessions and that I still can provide for my family through those times until I have something new. There is no need to carry guns. I've never been the victim of a crime nor did I ever witnessed one and I am living in the biggest city there, Vienna.

Keep believing that your system is any good. Just doesn't make it true.

I stopped reading right there. Anybody who thinks a bunch of kids should be making these kinds of decisions is a dumb kid themselves. These are the people who think we should have free college, but don't even begin to comprehend where the money is going to come from to pay for it. The older folks have seen some shit and know a few things. This is why you don't let a new college graduate jump straight to CEO.

What country specifically? What's the population?

I'm not propagating any fear. You do realize the only reason "socialism" works in a few countries in the EU is because the 20+ other capitalist countries are constantly dumping money and aid to them to keep them afloat, right? Greece is a perfect example. Why the fuck do you think Brexit was such a big deal you incredible idiot? They're tired of bailing you commie faggots out and rightfully so. I'm glad I'm finally debating with somebody who actually has a grasp of the system. But when you talk about a smaller state having greater electoral power, I think the system is doing its job. We may have greater national cohesion, but this doesn't mean that politicans view states equally, and one reason Trump won is because these states (even typically blue states) went full rebellion against the Democrats for ignoring them and condescending them. Remove California, and Trump would've won the popular vote too. As a resident of one of California's neighbors, I don't like the fact that their disproportionately high population gives them power over every election.
>going back to why the electoral college was established, founders were affraid that a state like Virginia, which had the population of higher than the next three most populous states combined, would just win the election every time
Getting rid of the electoral college does not eliminate this problem. I think you have too much faith in people's rationality. California would decide every single election.
>Yes. My in-laws are from Austin, however, most people from Austin are not Texas natives.
Austin is certainly not representative with the rest of Texas, so it doesn't really illustrate my point. I would, however point out that all Americans have citizenship in their state as well as US citizenship. I consider myself a citizen of my state first and an American second.

Guys, the American political system was never set up to work for the American people, whether they be conservative, moderate, or liberal. The system has always been set up to benefit a few ultra rich people. Nothing is ever going to change for us, whether it's a Bush, Clinton, Obama, Trump, Reagan, Carter or JFK in the white house until we address the issue that the system is rigged against us and it always has been.

Once voted for Bush cause I was in the military and the Republicans are usually good for that shit. They need it extra troops, and getting promotions was easy as fuck. Someone had to train all the fresh meat.

Then I got into college after the military and voted Obama. With only the GI bill and no job; I need it all the government freebies I could get. For schooling, housing, and medical crap.

Today, I own several business and hands-off investments, and I try to minimize my taxes to the MAX. So, I voted Republican, and like Mr. Trump said "I don't pay taxes, because I'm smart". Well, i hear you loud and clear sir. Let's make this bitch great again and expand those tax cuts, and cut all those pesky regulations. My wallet and businesses will thank you.

> For eight consecutive years (2009–2016), the human-resource-consulting firm Mercer ranked Vienna first in its annual "Quality of Living" survey of hundreds of cities around the world, a title the city still held in 2016.[22][23][24][25][26][27][28] Monocle's 2015 "Quality of Life Survey" ranked Vienna second on a list of the top 25 cities in the world "to make a base within."[29][30][31][32][33]

Well sure. But what you're talking about there is reform. I think that's always a good idea but it's going to require reconciliation. Rejecting the proper channels only disenfranchises people further, and ultimately destabilizes the state. The issue with populism isn't its principal goals, that is (or should be) a common sense component of any western leader. It's that when it surfaces as a trend like this, it's because it's being used as an angle to inject some oversimplified, Luddite sentiments and breed class warfare. No actual constructive proposals are made, if anything they intensify the people's issues so they can milk it for publicity, and in the long term their problems will be ignored.

Yea, I work as a social worker in Vienna. Poverty is something every city and country has to fight with. But we handle that situation very well. Nobody has to hunger and there is usually a place to sleep in a shelter and financial aid. Just posting that link alone does not tell anything about the situation there. It's not that poverty does exist, it's how many people are affected by it and what are the possibilities for them to get help if they reach out for it. It is sounding strange but there are a lot of homeless people that don't want any help. And we don't force our help upon them even if some might think that that is what socialism is about.

Btw. I still did not see any proof that Austria is recieving financial aid from any other country.

Precisely.

>As a resident of one of California's neighbors, I don't like the fact that their disproportionately high population gives them power over every election.
California may be have a high number of electors, but again, it's people voting, not states. California has the lowest vote:electore ratio in the country, so your person vote has more sway than theirs—that's what's not right.

>Getting rid of the electoral college does not eliminate this problem. I think you have too much faith in people's rationality. California would decide every single election
I agree that getting rid of the electoral college would not eliminate any problem of cohesiveness, in fact, I think it may even contribute to exasperating the issue. I'm just coming from the viewpoint that 1 person ought to equal 1 vote in the national election without muddying it up any.

>Austin is certainly not representative with the rest of Texas, so it doesn't really illustrate my point
Correct, and I stated that. I know Austin doesn't represent the rest of Texas well hence my aforementioned calrifier.

>however point out that all Americans have citizenship in their state as well as US citizenship. I consider myself a citizen of my state first and an American second.
1. Citizenship is to a country; a state in the USA is not a country; ergo, you are not a citizen of the state.

...all in all, I wasn't trying to refute any Trump's perceived attributes or Clinton's perceived failures, I just wasn't refuting the relevancy—or at the very least the skewed—of the particular map you showed. If everyone in my house (ten people) wanted to listen to song 1 and everyone outside (1 person) listen to song 2, and my backyard is bigger than my house, you style map would imply that "more" voted for song 2. No. It wouldn't.

The "economy" of California isn't based on the physical geographic presence, literally any industry in California could move to any other states with no problem aside from maybe a) the federally subsidized wine industry b) the federally subsidized orange industry and c) some avocado farms somewhere that no one gives a fuck about

There is nothing at all unique about California. Pull your head out of your ass. Our economy could take a few trillion dollar hit temporarily if it meant wiping out 80% of the country's AIDS in one swoop. I'm sure most people would vote in favor of that.

>1. Citizenship is to a country; a state in the USA is not a country; ergo, you are not a citizen of the state
Another passage from Wiki:
>A U.S. state is a constituent political entity of the United States of America. There are 50 states, which are bound together in a union with each other. Each state holds administrative jurisdiction over a defined geographic territory, and shares its sovereignty with the United States federal government. Due to the shared sovereignty between each state and the federal government, Americans are citizens of both the federal republic and of the state in which they reside. (Article: U.S. state)

>"we can give you helps with money and food"
>"noh, keep it away from me, i wanna die alone"
