fave 90's band
I bet you are not even a millennial newfag
have you ever listened to neo nazi post punk underground rap?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amC1kdPFfC8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHozn0YXAeE
does that mean started in the 90s or was mainly active in the 90s?
>>723042443
It doesn't matter just music from the 90's
and they're still going.
>>723042481
then sparklehorse
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIH25CP2wc4
i cant believe they started in the 90s. wow best band ever that started in the 90s
>>723042375
> neo nazi
who fought bitterly with the
> post punks
because the nazis hated black people who
> rap
that's three contradictions in one genre, anon. you should have thrown in "prog rock" while you were at it.
>>723042619
Fuck you and everything you stand for

FUCK ME I SPELLED FROM WRONG
>>723041160
I dont care you stupid faggot.
>>723042543
what is this?
Pavement.
Sure I'm I a guy but I was 12 at the end of the 90's but honestly at the time liking them wasn't considered gay.
>>723042543
Skinny Puppy started in the 80's, most of their best stuff is from that era, not a 90's band.
Godlflesh were mostly active in the 90's, still doing stuff occasionally.

>>723043044
nice facebook meme, faggot
>>723041160
Happy Birthday, Kurt. Press F to pay respects.
>>723043682
*f*
Soundgarden
>>723043104
Skinny Puppy
>> No Sublime
>> Underage ban
Living in Seattle during the '90s was amazing.
Toss up between NIN and Tool
>>723043104
oh, it's just a little thing i like to call LOOK AT THE FUCKING FILENAME YOU RETARDED SACK OF SHIT.
Nirvana and soundgarden are taken, so I'll go with this masterpiece of a good band:
<<<
>>723044004
How is this city today? Are those underground clubs still alive?
Alice in chains
Don't forget pantera guys
>>723044117
The city today is a gentrified hellscape that I can't even recognize from 10 years ago.
Nirvana was and will always be fucking terrible
every 14 year old edgelord's first hot topic band
>>723044184
Oh thats a shame, so there is no music scene anymore?
>>723044253
truggered
What do you guys think about primus?
>>723044409
There is. We've lost a ton of venues, gained some. Most of the music being made here is more on the mellow indie side, but there's still lots going on. It just isn't quite as good for the most part. It's become very expensive to live here, so lots of the artists and musicians have moved on.
>>723044169
I was waiting for somebody to mention them, we can just forget about the Glamtera days though.
Let's not forget about Metallica
>>723044576
Yeah, glamtera was just a average metal band, but they kick ass back in the 90s. I always wonder how quick they changed their style at Cowboys from hell.
>>723044637
Metallica was already dead in the 90s and (You) know it
>>723043444
IF YOU WANNA BE MY LOVER
>>723044253
It's high energy music about depression, suicide, mental problems, and not fitting in ect. Something a lot of people can empathize with and something a lot of people find "edgy" or "weak"
I myself like a lot of their stuff, but then again I'm a pretty depressed guy. So ya know. Whatever you like you like
>>723044004
You lucky bastard. I'd give up everything in my life to go back in time and be born in Seattle, 1975.
The cure, radiohead, neutral milk hotel
>>723044703
The black album was fucking great
Layne Staley > Kurt Cobain
>>723044427
>>723044472
>>723044738
the only reason nirvana is even remembered to this day is cause kunt cobain iced himself.
If he was still alive, they'd be washed-up nobodies trying to get people to stream their new single on spotify
>yfw stone temple pilots was best grunge band and they weren't even fucking from seattle
Neutral Milk Hotel is probably my favorite 90s band. They had a really unique sound
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HBLB_FteGAc
>>723044738
This. It was edgy shit because that's what white kids were dealing with in the 90s, so that's what white kids sang about. Shit, some people consider The Offspring the cringiest edgelord band in the world, but God damn if those lyrics didn't apply to the struggles of lower class suburbia to a T.
>>723044551
Well it's hard to create new music with instruments these days, im a musician by myself. I don't know some new bands from the seattle area but it's nice to hear that the music scene is still alive.
>>723044873
Have you ever considered that that may be one of the reasons he killed himself. Because he never wanted people to think of him that way.
>>723044806
For the pop industry maybe.
To me, Metallica is Kill 'em All, Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning and ...And justice for all, not more.
BUT I have to admit, that the other stuff they made in the 90s and later (Load and ReLoad were pretty unique and bluesy, Death Magnetic had some awesome, old-school like songs) was good fucking music, it just wasn't Metallica anymore.
They should have moved on with another name in my opinion.
My other favourites are taken so FNM
>>723044876
>butt milk motel
>unique
>>723044969
Hardwire is a good piece too.
>>723044761
It was pretty great. Along with all the local music, touring bands really went all out to put on killer shows here during the big grunge explosion.
>>723044957
Music will always be in Seattle's DNA. This year we will start having a big annual music fest here similar to SXSW. It should be exciting.
> 90s Thread
>Not mentioning "(the) Melvins" who inspired most 90s artists including Nirvana
Srsly guys, if you have NEVER heard of these guys you should totally check out THIS ALBUM on YouTube,
>>723041160
Nirvana
>>723045038
I'm currently checking this album out but I'm too broke to buy it.
My friends love it already
>>723045087
And I was born in 85, Missouri, grunge music was my life back then. Had I been born earlier and in the right place, not in this flyover shithole, I would've been touring years ago.
>>723044967
Nope. I read his little edgelord heroin journals.
He killed himself cause he was an insufferable manbaby and because muh stomach pains
I always loved these guys from the '90s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Q397xZoMSQ
>>723045173
It's never too late to make it happen.
I think I am going to have to go with AntonÃn Dvořák.
>dat 9th symphony
>>723045095
Melvins did nice stuff in the 80s too. Bullhead is from 1989 isnt it?
>>723045166
Yeah, i like it too, not a great album like RTL but quite good and fun to hear.
>>723045087
Thats awesome, why am i born at the ass of the world. Most of the people here think music is not important, thats sad.
>>723045095
Buzz Osbourne is a pretentious twat and will go down on history the guy left saying "hey, you didn't include ME on your list of influential bands!" Because the Melvins are fags.
>>723041160

Collective Soul
Another great band who killed it in the '90s and helped tons of new bands get exposure.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lWwdpBeZd0
>>723044969
You might be ADMITTING Load and Re/load are "bluesy" and resemble anything "good," but you're direly wrong.
>>723041160
None, the 90's was the worst decade of music in all of the 20th century.

Ah, the band that moved to Seattle just to get signed. The were the beginning of the end in many ways.
>>723044969
Don't breed, do the human race a favor.
>>723045680
Don't care. Candlebox's self titled album is amazing. I listened to it all the time when I wasn't getting laid in high school back in the 90's.
What do you think about my band? Our music is a mix of helmet, soundgarden and melvins
https://larikin.bandcamp.com/
>>723041160
>kurt ka-bang
>>723045847
They were very popular. They were just one of those bands like STP that came in on the second or third wave of labels looking to sign bands with a certain sound. It happens to every popular scene eventually.
>>723045234
Have you ever had an ulcer. It feels like a fucking alien baby is going to just out of your fucking stomach. Imagine having that shit all the time. Now imagine that the only thing you're good at is playing and writing music. The only thing you enjoy in this life is music. Now imagine that you're too tired from depression and pain to even do the things you love anymore. You wouldn't kill yourself?
>>723041160
First to come in mind: Alice in Chains. But they where from 1987 so idk.
>>723045019
>that lyricism
>that distortion
>those crazy fast drums
>odd instrumentation from saws and accordions that gives them a sound all their own
Not unique?
>>723045854
Not bad. The production sounds like early punk. I'd maybe like to hear it cleaned up a bit so individual instruments sound thicker.
>>723044806
Agreed. Lots of edge lords will diss post Justice metallica when in reality Justice was a bit shit. Puppets and Lightning was utterly glorious genre defining metal... but Killemall and Justice were a bit ordinary apart from 'that song' from each.
Black album rocked the world at the time and deservedly so. Great riffs. The best soloing kirk ever did. Who cares if it was in 4 to 5 min song format instead of the apparently more credible 6 min songs? It fucking rocked.
My vote is that Metallica and GNR co headline tour. Fucking epic times
>>723041160
Also Guns N' Roses, but they are from 1985... sorry.
>>723046009
Are you larping being a hipster?
None of that shit is right.
>>723045713
I won't do so on purpose, I promise
>>723046407
I really like Guns N' Roses
>>723046369
Thanks, it is a 100% self production. We wan't to record an album at april with more professionel equipment. Glad you like it.
>>723046414
If you say so, friendo, though I remember that period of music very clearly.
>>723046462
Their best stuff is 80's. Doesn't count.
Put it in the Metallica pile.
>>723046568
Candlebox is from Seattle. They hit in 1993.
I fail to see how this makes them 2nd/3rd/whatever wave of anything.
Stop setting your watch to whenever Cobain decided to see when buckshot tasted like.
>>723041160
Guns N Roses
Faith No More
Alice in Chains
Pearl Jam
Soundgarden
Slipknot
Marilyn Manson
(Do not judge me for last two, at that time they kick ass...)
>>723046760
They formed here, but most of the members were transplants to Seattle. Grunge had been around since the mid '80s. Earlier if you count The U-Men and Wipers. So bands like Nirvana, Mudhoney, etc... were nearly the second wave of grunge in some ways, though being signed in the '80s to Sub Pop assured that they would be solidly stylized as grunge. Me thinks you don't know much about the history of music in Seattle.
>>723046910
Slipknot was really good in 99
>>723046910
For me slipknot became shitty in 2008 but the gray chapter was pretty good
>>723044873
As an STP fan...
1. Theres no such genre as grunge. It's a fancy term to box 90's rock bands (mostly from seattle) into one genre.
2. Listen to STP post purple, they really don't sound like their first two records, they grew as musicians and made the music they wanted to make which was strikingly different from core/purple. This is similar to what happened to Pearl Jam.
3. Alice in Chains>>>>STP
>>723045854
I hope good things happen for you guys. Seem like a tight band. My only tip for you is to have more meaningful lyrics. Write about what you want to write about, not what you think others might want to hear. Love the use of the wah wah
Radiohead and only Radiohead you fucking dumbos
>>723046910
>Guns N Roses
>Faith No More
Were good before the 90's, faggot.
If only more 90's singers had overdosed or committed suicide.
>>723044715
>inb4 friendship never ends
>>723048266
>>723048266
oh fuck yeah man... just.. fuck yes.
I get fucking feels listening to that.

Hell yeah I did! Repeater too.
>>723047909
Yes our lyrics where really simple on this songs. This are our first 4 songs we had then, our new pieces are a bit more complex. The main problem of our band are the gigs. Grunge is not very popular in germany, so we often had problems to get gigs. Thanks for your honest words.
I still listen to these guys.
Tool
Helmet
>>723048942
You're welcome brother. I've got the same problem. I'm from Kentucky and distorted bass and guitars aren't extremely popular around here but we're trying to make it popular
Korn. They were genre defining.
>>723042439
i masturbate to the girl in this video.

The whole EP is a masterpiece
Any takers for early meshuggah stuff?
>>723049224
They were a bunch of fucking weirdos who banked off of being weirdos
>>723049295
Ah, the irony of saying that on /b.
>>723049224
Almost single handedly defined numetal. Pretty much any band after them that mixed elements of metal and another genre were labeled as such. Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, etc.
>>723049110
Good luck man, maybe you will be the new led zeppelin in a few years. Here around stutgart is a small stonerscene. But we are not a stoner band, we just have some stonerelements in our music.
The main music here is german rapmusic and technostuff, rock is dead.
The Spice Girls

I didn't hear this until a few years ago, 'whale and wasp' is beyond phenomenal

Truly musical genesis, ranking up with Mozart and Beethoven
If Mozart and Beethoven were weed smoking white trash.
>>723049578
Holy hell, I listened to this in high school. Makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.
>>723049566
I feel like Dirt is so acclaimed (deservedly) that Jar of Flies gets overlooked. Plus, that was about the time that AiC started to collapse.
Can't believe Layne has been dead almost 15 years already.
Rage Against the Machine
>>723049425
>numetal
They did a poor job then. What the fuck is numetal?
Every band with a slightly different sound doesnt get to have its own 'genre'. Otherwise there would be as many genres as bands...
Second album I ever owned and regularly listened to
>>723049823
Wasn't a slightly different sound, they were a completely different sound at the time. Nu metal is exactly the genre they defined. Learn your base metal genres anon.
>>723049823
It is a somewhat nebulous term. As far add I'm aware, numetal is combining elements of metal and almost any other genre(s). System of a Down is frequently cited as another pioneering numetal band. But it most commonly combines a metal sound with rapped lyrics.
>>723041160
>>723050105
See i always thought that was rock-rap. Like faith no more started. Well thats what MTV called it back in the 90s
>>723049666
keked and checked
>>723050284
Down tuned or 7 string guitars. Simplified riffs. Syncopated rhythms. No or little guitar solos. I'm sure FNM were an influence, as were many neo metal or progressive metal bands but nu metal definitely it's own genre. There is always crossover between genres though.
>>723049041
the only decent band in this thread that isnt cringe
>>723050284
That was certainly the most popular iteration, but perhaps with a little more emphasis on "heaviness". Faith No More could easily be categorized in numetal.
>>723050523
So you would consider FNM to be more like a proto-numetal?
>>723050749
No. FNM are one of those rare bands that are of no single genre but broad enough to be part of very many. They incorporate too many styles too well. They are an exception for existing. In terms of defining (I assume you mean from Angel Dust days), it's hard to say. Maybe, but you'd be stretching.
>>723043251
Underrated.
No one has mentioned the Pixies? Damn..
My Bloody Valentine
