The fucking hyped up IPA's are so stupid. There's no fucking reason they cant make heady, hopslam, etc. all year long. But they are not selling beer they are selling hype. So many good double ipa's out there that are available all the time and don't cost a fucking fortune.

Whenever I first started drinking it I really liked it. It was smooth, and had this little banana after taste.
I would find myself thinking about the taste and thinking about drinking one after I had gotten home.
But now they just seem bitter to me, no matter how cold I get them. They taste like piss, like all the others.

na brah, its about capacity of their brewery and scheduling. Sure they could make that year round, but they'd remove several other beers from their yearly lineup. Which would inherently hurt the brand.

Just look at the color of that beer and you can already tell it's going to taste like shit.

Rogue is fine, it's just kinda overrated and their styles are often off. The brewmasters there openly only brew stronger beers to hide defects they may have, and do not put bottling dates on the bottles because they try to make beer that won't show too many defects when it goes out of date. For these reasons, a lot of the community sticks their nose up at them, but honestly, they aren't terrible.

So yeah Pliny the Younger, and the Elder for that matter, are pretty delicious but Russian River makes them "rare" by their own choice, it is false rarity

I've noticed a few things after many years of drinking.

1:beer in a can isn't as good tasting to a bottle even if it's the same beer.

2:some beers if you let the unopened beer go warm then cool it down again it can change the taste.

3:once you are more than 24 full strength beers into a drinking session you don't care about the taste.

4:some beers taste better from the tap,but others taste better from the bottle.

5:adding strong flavored ginger whine to a beer makes a good ginger beer.

Yeah I just included them in my favorites, but the Younger, because of distribution is just really hard to come by. But my local campus bar often has the Elder on tap

I love all beer, doesn't matter what kind it is, if you want to pretend that women beer is better than others go ahead. I love stouts, reds, pilsners, IPA's, etc. if it is on Nitro I'll try it, but don't pretend like your preference I better.

I even do prefer stouts and porters. I just think you're a fag
>>
>>722756521
Fag, stouts and porters are over rated

Fellow homebrewer. Got anything in bottles or fermenters?

I got a mead in my fermenter and a berry wild sour in bottles right now
>>
>>722758861
Got a barleywine right now in secondary and just bottled a second runnings hoppy brown.
>>
>>722747756
I've tried it only once as I live on the west coast.. I remember it being pretty good but not spectacular and not holding up as well as some of the west coast RR, Pliny, Stone, etc.
Would still buy it again and try it if I could. Sometimes hype can be a let down
>>
>>722758962
>second runnings
? A clever name or did you pitch an old yeast cake?
>>
Beer is trash anyway.
>>
Most of you beef fags would drink dark fizzy piss if it had a stupid label and '$12 for 6 bottles' sticker on it
>>
>>722747756
Did you let the yeast settle out OP? Your pic looks like there is yeast you poured into your glass, personally I don't care to drink that yeast and think drinking it produces off flavors

Not by a long shot, bud.

I used to hype the shit out of Yuengling because I was 4 states away from the nearest distribution. Scarcity driven praise.

One day, I started re-evaluating the things I drank based on merit, and not "I've always liked it." Needless to say, the next time I objectively tried a Yuengling it lost its magic. It's really just a standard American Lager.
>>
>>722752343
Oof. Good stuff, but I can barely drink a bottle before I need something else.

I live by monkish in Los Angeles so I got my NE IPAs covered. They're always pouring and filling growlers of something good. Also their releases are always surprise release so us locals don't have to camp for hours with out of town assholes.

With homebrew, to do a beer as big as a barleywine, its best not to sparge. Since there is so much residual sugar, after doing a first running of the mash (simply draining the wort after the mash), you sparge the mash and drain into a second vessel. So this way, you get one high gravity, one low gravity beer. You generally have to add in a bit more malt extract into the second running beer.

Anyway, without a recirculator on the mash, this is the best way to do a big beer and not waste a ton of money by throwing away a bunch of good wort.

I give no regard to the trips you scored, as your comment has only managed to make you sound like a pubescent simpleton.

One of my least favorites is a "Serious."

It's a 50/50 pour of Summit: EPA and Surly: Furious. All the local bars used to serve them and people would drink it like it was free.

Anyone else drink this ever? Probably my favorite IPA and I can get it on draft around my area. My second favorite is probably Rando IPA.
