Hello there Anons, I have a question for the experts: what in particular differentiates regular feral fuffies behaviour from the so-called hellgremlin canon?
>>
>>722687772
I've been reading for about 2 years and I don't see much of a difference. But you get a few people who are passionate about verbally complaining about it, without specifying why they are.

So far, the fragility of the pony is one, the birth rate is debated and varies from writer to writer, and the ability to socially groom is the last. There are also discrepancies in fluffy history about how they were released.

Someone can add to it if you like.

It's funny how that they recognise it (or them) as "munstah-babbeh", they call it both baby and monster but somehow they fail to connect it actually being a baby or that it is actually harmless being a newborn
>>
>>722687092
Someones getting the sorry hammer.
>>
>>722688623
It's a alicorn foal, a foal that has both wings and a horn. Fluffies know that fluffies can have wings OR a horn, but can't grasp the fact that fluffies can have both. So they think alicorns are monsters that will eat them. So whenever alicorn foals are born they are either killed immediately or they starve to death through neglection.
>>
>>722688623
From the first time I've heard it, they were always referred to as just "munstuh."

I have a feeling it's some sort of fluffy psychology at work.

When presented with a real threat 90% of the time they will run away. Deep down in fluffys brains whether they know it or not the Munstah babys are completely harmless.

I've always thought of it as being their "uncanny valley", that alicorns look like them but something in their brain tells the fluffy that something isn't quite right, and if it isn't a fluffy or a human "daddy/mommy" it must be a "munstah" of some kind.

>>
>>722690747

It's canon that fluffy fur has very little insulating value. Adults freeze to death in as little as -10 C and unprotected foals can die when it's 0 C.

>>722691273
>The fur can not keep them warm. It was designed to be pretty, not practical.
so... in winter, fluffies are just fucked?
>>
>>722690747

It's not really a typical fur. Their fluff was designed to make them look cute, not to keep them warm. It's better than being naked/shaved.

>>722690806
Fluffies were designed to be taken care of by humans, not to survive in the wilderness. Fluffies are ill-equipped to do that. They are slow and clumsy, stupid, naive, they can't outrun or fight off predators, they lack many survival instincts that real animals have.

They often survive just barely thanks to their fast reproduction.
>>
>>722691354
so winter is a guaranteed killer?

allow me to find that horse carcass....
>>
>>722691461

Yup. Winter kills off a good majority of ferals only to have their populations replenished by people ditching their holiday gift fluffies in March or April after getting tired of the whole fluffy owning experience. By that time, it's probably warm enough outside for them to survive and start breeding.
>>
>>722689436
Man, that's cool as FUCK
>>
>>722691473
>They often survive just barely thanks to their fast reproduction.
but how? how would ANY survive a past a year with winter being so leathal among everything else. and as far as reproduction... we already argued the two teet argument this morning...
>>
>>722691461

It depends how cold it gets. They can survive the cold if they can find shelter in the cities or forests. They can also form a "fluff pile", which is when many fluffies lie closely together to conserve heat.

There are also some headcanons of fluffies digging into the ground to build a nest, but this is very uncommon because their hooves are far too soft to do that.
>>
>>722691560

It obviously doesn't kill every feral as at least some find ways to survive.

Remember that there's a certain amount of suspension of logic you have to do in order for all of this shit to work and keep going.
>>
>>722691678

Depends where they live, how smart the herd is and availability of food.
>>
>>722692004
Yes if they can find grass, leaves, berries and nuts, but during the winter there is not much of these things. So desperate fluffies resort to cannibalism, where they first eat their foals.
>>
>>722692153
well fluffies are stupid as hell, so that is a gamble unless they get an alicorn leader. so basically they can only live in tropical climates year round, but can't survive in temperate climates.
>>
>>722692116

I was talking about the whole fluffy thing in general.

We humans are FUCKING AMAZING!! at making shit extinct. If we really, really wanted every fluffy dead, they would be. The only reason it keeps going is because the humans in the fluffyverse have reached a state of apathy where ferals are just enough of a nuisance to control but not completely eliminate their populations.
>>
>>722692391
so basically the one or two healthest foals have the only chance to survive, not being frozen, eaten, mal nurished or anything else.

>>
>>722691887
I'd also have to imagine some city winters are easier on others. But most artists tend to depict some fucking cold ass winters.

Now I wanna see fluffies baking to death in a city during a summer day in the high 90s. That fur isn't gonna be doing them any kind of favors.

Fluffies are kind and loving to a Faust. Hellgremlins are complete opposite of that. Fluffies try to hug their way through hard times while hellgremlins murder and rape each other for little to no reason at all.

Basically, if a fluffy is deliberately made to be hated, it's most likely a hellgremlin.

>They are more like rats and cockroaches.

fuck not this shit again. roaches are insects that lay eggs and have existed since the dinosaurs, so they are tough as shit, fluffies are not. rats a fellow mammals, but are MUCH better adapted to survival than fluffies, and in terms of reproduction, rats have WAY more teets than fluffies making them able to feed large broads than fluffies and not having to resort to that stupid pecking order system they have that at best saves one baby possibly to maturity.

a fluffy pony can survive about 3-6 months in the wild.

if they aren't pregnant, they can be impregnated. Even if it's immediately after giving birth.

The gestation period is around 2-3 weeks. And foals can mature to reproduction age in about 2-3 weeks.

each litter has about 2-6 foals.

Do the math, the numbers are there.

It is pretty well accepted, but stories of feral survival are still interesting no matter how rare they'd be. Kind of like the broken fences -phenomenom where everyone in the fluffyverse seems to have a broken fence, but it's more likely that they're just the ones you hear about since the people with fluffyproof fences don't have stories to tell.

>each litter has about 2-6 foals.
and only 2 teets, a dog has 8.
the mother can at best only adequately feed two of her 'best' babbehs and the other four can be easily written off, then there is the hope not one of the MILLIONS of things lethal to fluffies do not kill the mother, or the two remaining foals.
>>
>>722694557
just cause all the foals represented in imagery die. doesn't mean they don't majorly live to breeding age in the lore. Of those shown to die, thousands others are born. And of those thousands, many hundreds live long enough to have children. and while it's not as fast as if they could survive efficiently, the numbers are just so high that it's going to increase no matter what.
>>
>>722694840
fluffies have enough of a sharing gene taht they know to spread the milk to all the children and ensure they all get their share, unlike with dogs and other evolved mammals where the mother presents her teats, and the babies that manage to latch on survive.
>>
>>722694320

Your numbers are a bit off there bud.

It's generally accepted that they reproduce in the same timeline as hamsters. That means a 30 day gestation period. Reproduction age is reached in 45-60 days depending on availability of food.

Life in the wild is rarely more than two years while a well cared for domestic can live between 5-15 years depending on headcanon. (A lot of artists/authors use 5 years)
>>

>>
>>722694840

Fluffies rotate the babies on their teats, so the number of nipples doesn't directly translate to the number of babies fed.

>>722695264

They're still only able to produce a finite amount of milk so the babbehs feeding last are getting less quantity and probably lesser quality milk as well.

Also this.

There's thousands of fluffies, but the only stories that are told in cannon are those where they die. because as this anon said, those are the stories worth telling.

How many of you would be on board for a boring story where everything goes right, they get marginally enough food to live, they have babies, those babies survive for a few years (long enough to have and raise their own babies), and then they die of old age or natural disasters.

Sounds fairly uninteresting doesn't it. That's why despite all the stories about them dying they survive, because the stories where they do are just not worth telling.

Not only do most stories depict mares producing enough milk for babies to drink as much as they can, the canon fluffies don't play favorites so they'd all starve at roughly the same rate.

Smarty Gene. Fluffies are ingrained to adore intelligence and fluffies ressembling themselves. however they were also created as breeding stock, to breed breed breed. The ones released by peta were breeders that weren't ready for the public. they were made to have countless brood in their lifetime. so while they definitely prefer some children over others, and feed those ones better, they still love all their children. and so they feed all of them, except for the rare cases where they think shit colours are bad, or the rare occasions where they have Alicorns.

Bioengineered or not, at some point natural evolution is going to kick in. These things come off, at least to me, more like rodents then they do horses. So they should be having a LOT more babies than what most artists depict.

I don't really think it is worth it to argue over that aspect of headcanon, since
>headcanon

Also, there is a great deal of difference in the size, strength, and intelligence in the way they are portrayed.

I personally tend to picture them as being the size of a small dog, but heavier due to the larger head and thicker legs. While they are weak - little muscle, no fighting instinct, no teeth or claws, - they are usually depicted as smart enough to be taught things by explanation, which means a herd could teach its offspring.

I guess after the first few stories I read, I pictured them as fast-breeding, soft-hoofed, multi-colored, baby-babbling, half-sized shetland ponies, so them becoming an invasive species in some climates made sense to me.

This doesn't make sense to me. First of all, there are surprising amount of people who'd want a fluffy in earthly colors. Second, there are brown ponies in the show fluffies were created after. And third, they're an incomplete prototype barely intelligent enough to live, so prioritizing time and effort into something that could be done by humans in mere seconds is not something you'd want to leave in the hands of the fluffies.

I'd be the guy who bought up "poopie" babies. If the mother has good colors then they have them in their genes. See it alot in reptile breeding. A reptile will have a trait in its genes and pass it onto it's offspring, but won't have those traits itself.

No, and most of us would enjoy having fluffies around. They're a nuisance, yes, but they most definitely don't deserve the shit life gives them. That's the entire point of fluffies: beings too kind for this world being treated with callous disregard because actually helping the ferals would take too much time and effort.

Remember, they have their behaviors and vocabulary encoded directly into their DNA. Some stories even touched on how they were supposed to tell their owner when they were sick, or how their desire to play with blocks and balls was directly coded in. Having them neglect and discard runts, deformed babies, and poor colors wouldn't be an issue - they are already programed to notice the features (horns/wings) and classify them as such anyway.

Yes and there's a few explanations.

1) Spaghetti with sauce is a food only obtainable from humans which guarantees their dependence.

2) It's an inside joke that only the scientists get.

3) It was something added to the lore by the people in our world because they pronounce it the same way Honey Boo Boo's mom does. This makes fluffies easier to hate I guess.
>>
>>722697764
>would it know what "sketties" is?

>>
>>722697717

Exactly! That's what makes their suffering so satisfying. They're full of hope and optimism, but the world isn't a place where huggies fix everything and love triumphs over all. They're so ill-prepared for the suffering that awaits them, and the very idea of someone hurting someone else on purpose is so sad and mean that abusing them is practically about raping their whole worldview. We the humans have had time to grow jaded, and taking it out on something so full of unwarranted optimism is what makes fluffies so cathargic.

>We're talking about an imaginary creature here but oh, please, DO tell me how this shit works in YOUR headcanon.

well. according to darwin, the concept fo natural selection is as follows, as condition change, whatever ever traits and mutations a species have acquired over generations will be tested, the ones with the most favorable traits to the new conditions will survive and the ones with the least will not or will be out reproduced by those with the more favorable traits making those traits predominate in the next generation, and this continues generation to generation till you get a different species. look up darwin's finches for another example.

its not a head canon, its evolution.

NIgga, I've read Darwin's work. We've already established that the genes mutate slowly, they're a random lottery between parents and offspring and they probably don't live long enough for those mutations to have any benfit to the genome as a whole.

In short, for all intents and purposes, fluffies are "stuck" as they are.

So, here's what YOU do: write us a nice little story where a population of fluffies is left to their own devices for enough generations for DNA mutations to occur AND for them to have a positive effect on the population.

But then again, you don't fucking write. You just come into these threads and keep arguing about how cool it would be if fluffies evolved. Either get writing or fuck off.
