There are two sides to learning programming The logic and the syntax. The syntax is always a bitch to learn because it means observing esoteric rules that may change from language to language. Little hang-ups like where to put a semicolon or how to format certain commands.

The heart of it is the logic. Function, loop, if/else.

How do they work? When should I use them? Getting good at that is what you should focus on the most.

It's quite full-scope nowadays. The newer front-end environments encourage reusable, component-based architecture, which makes things on the client-end much smoother. You can work with nearly any database solution you'd want. MongoDB is pretty popular right now as a noSQL option. As far as app deployment, you can easily use Firebase, Heroku, Docker, etc... to deploy, if that's what you're getting at.
