yes, but unlike terraria, reaching "max gear" isnt the goal of the entire game
un-enchanted diamond gear isnt even high tier anyway, reaching lvl 30 takes hours, even with good strategies such as mass breeding or finding a mob spawner

I've never tried playing Minecraft just because it looks terrible and most people who play it are children so I imagine it can't be all that great. Just like I never have watched MLP despite loving other cartoons, because it looks like shit and all the fans seem retarded. Oh boy, I used to play this a lot...

I had a server that took 3 years to design and perfect, modeled it around a massive D&D campaign I wrote many years ago.

The map was gorgeous, plugins were flawless, everything was crystal clear perfect.

Then I went public, and the community tore it to shreds. I kept the dream alive for about a year, had a decent amount of regulars, then one day I just flipped the switch off, deleted everything and walked away.

Agree with OP 1000000%, the game is great, the people or horrid abominations.
