Still doesn't explain the prediction, there is a machine for almost every job (even grape picking) yet it has seen little widespread use.
But to address the theory directly (without knowing much on it) the "exponential" growth we have seen insofar have been driven by demand and need (breakdown of moore's law was a shift in external factors, such as a change in needs) the theory implies a level of spontaneity to the growth, and its continued growth. Which I see as flaws as the theory is too sensitive to unaccounted external factors.

If that happens in the next 50 years, everyone one 4chan has a licence to kick me in the balls all day every day.
All the programming that goes on is us telling machines what to do. We know what needs to be done, we just have to tell the machine to do it, because it can do it better and faster.

Let me draw it out for anyone who doesn't get it:

WE STILL DON'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE MACHINES DO STUFF WE DO NOT KNOW ALREADY.

I guessed you probably wouldn't and I was looking forward to your feeling of discomfort.

It's an old joke (as I'm an old person) about the ultimate destination of automation, where there in a factory there is only a man and a dog; the man is there to feed the dog and the dog is there to bite the man if he tries to touch anything.

You have a completely false idea about either the mythical "singularity" or about the ultimate power of AI. A self-driving car can't calculate a mortgage for you. Or work out how to unblock your drain. Or choose new carpets that will tone with your wallpaper and carpets. A human can easily do all four with ease and minimal training. Plus cook a nice lunch.

Once someone comea up with an idea

I.e something creative in mathematics,

Surely that idea will be programmed into a machine so on and so forth and eventually the AI will start being creative themselves.

Also, disagree, mathematics is impressive, but holy fuck is it ugly.

Sorry, brother. Fed the dogs and did morning shit.

Canada.

We ran a test in 1975. 5 years.

And we're running another test this year.

It is being supported by both the left and right wing parties. Everyone wins. No more wellfare or EI, massive savings in health care, the unemployed dont lose their benefit for getting a job so theyre more likely to actually go find a job.

Theres a wealth of reasons were taking it on that has nothing to do with total automation, but its come up plenty that its a first step in preparing for mass unemployment.
>>
How about music, anons? Hard to see that being taken over by automation

Hierarchy of Degrees
>medicine - but only if you graduate medical school. a premed degrees with mediocre grades will be fairly worthless, and it won't get you into medical school. You gotta pretty much be a average in premed (or B average if you're a minority) to get into med school.

Law- See above. A law degree can be valuable, but if you even wind up with a B average in law school finding jobs can be hard (if you don't have lawyers in your family). And same thing as above with a prelaw degree, if you don't have As you won't get into law school.

Engineering - Best 4 year degree but also one of the hardest if you aren't naturally inclined to math.

Business - This is the easiest to get of the degrees that make money. Though understand a good amount of getting good jobs with a business degree depends upon being likable (something most channers probably struggle with).

Mid Tier- Trades
Welding
Soldering
Machining
Butchering

Trades will always exist in an increasingly digital age. If you aren't academically inclined (which is a very different thing than being smart, most of the brightest people I know do not do well in the classroom), you should do a trade. Trade jobs pay middle class-ish, if you look around, in some areas you may have to join a union. Trades you MUST constantly hunt on jobs because the exact same trade can pay not even enough for your own apartment or enough for you to own a nice middle class home. Don't go to companies with exploitive pay.

Shit tier
>Anything in the school of liberal arts.
>Anthropology
>Women's Studies
>Political science

>History and English are two baby steps better than the other shit degrees because they at least are common stepping stones into law school.
>Archaeology is probably the best of the crap degrees but it doesn't pay very much considering you went to college for it (but it is a good job for those who like physical work and have the travel bug).

Musicfag here...

Music is very mathematic and when you understand it, very simple.

You can evoke certain emotions simply by using a combination of notes in a scale. If you use that same combination in another song, you get the same emotional response.

Music can easily be AI generated.

https://youtu.be/LSHZ_b05W7o

Heres one.
>>
Programming might not be fun for everyone, but as it is now it will easilly land you a job with a decent income. There's a wide variety of programming languages you can learn for different purposes, so you basically make sure you got some programming knowledge, go jobhunting and soon enough somebody will want to hire you if you're prepared to learn more about the shit they're working with.

I think this job will stick around in the future. Perhaps even more so.
>>
>>721215286
This is simple pop though.
>>
>>721215377
What a stupid thing to say.
>>
>>721215262
Two more additions to the shit tier. Music and theater.

Here's the thing about becoming a famous actor and musician, they don't really expect you to go to college for it, BUT they do expect you do a good and inspired job at it. And inspiration and musical/acting skill is not usually found in a classroom, a good amount of practice and natural aptitude.

Also add any teaching job to the mid tier... It's a solid job, but they don't tell you that there's hundreds of qualified applicants for every one teaching job so most of them (unless if they know someone to get their foot in the door) wind up doing a job that's not related.

I might want to pick your brain actually...

In highschool I did visual basic, java and action script. Not to toot my horn but i was very good but dropped it after highshool for some dumb reason.

Now (12 years later) im starting up again.

Im learning python, been plugging away every evening after work.

My question:

What languages should I learn? Also Im a bit of a capitalist and always looking for side cash. What language do you think could get me some consistent freelance money?
>>
>>721206557
Depends on your country, fyi there is a lot of websites with statistics of "under-educated" quotas of finishing students.

In general, anything natural-science based, think bio-chemistry or engineering, is always going to be useful. Doctors, law, etc are always in demand.
Tech-jobs (ie webpage/phone app level shit) is not as reliable. Although there is still a huge upswing in those areas, and they are not being filled by "educated"/knowledgable people as a consequence of the descrepancy.

If you live in a EU-country that have a housing crisis, architecture is in deep need of people. And experienced architects will not be out of jobs in the future either.

As a general rule of thumb, service jobs are unreliable. Life-saving, "crucial" jobs are always in demand. And it would be good to remember that if you have big strengths in one area, you will likely enjoy that area more, and therefore be more successful, than someone who is just in it for the money.
>>
>>721211061

Fuck minimum basic income.

Most of the figures proposed are half to two thirds of what i make as a bricklayer's apprentice. So i ask you, if i can make two thirds of what i make sitting around sucking the government tit, what incentive does anybody have to do the dirty/hard jobs people don't want to do? There would effectively be zero reason to do hard work, and we would end up with a society of lazy contentment and unfairly treated workers.
>>
>>721215455
Am I not wrong? There are some interesting chord progressions but nothing about this is that good. Just sounds like generic hipster trash, When I hear an AI compose something on par with some of the standards I will be impressed
>>
>>721215577
You are so out of your element. The point is that a fucking robot will lay the bricks.
>>
>>721215565
also, as a general tip, most jobs that don't have specific education as a prerequisite are better to just ask around for interns/entry level jobs.

Ex, all service jobs, chefs, hotel management, administrative work.
>>
>>721215736
"Coding" is also one of those fields. Marketing as well.
>>
>>721215689
Yeah man. I read your post the first time. I didn't care then either.
>>
>>721215377

Firstly.. No it is not.

Secondly, "simple pop" is just as complex as what you would consider more real music.

Pop needs to be bang on the money with what works. You cannot deviate. It must be methodically structured and on point.

With music you might not consider simple pop, youre allowed a lot more room to play with the rules. You might require more knowledge of theory, but its all still methodical calculating of what makes what emotions and how to acheive it in the listener.

Music isnt magical.. All psychology and math.
>>
>>721215732

Talk about irony. You claim I'm out out my element, yet you boil down bricklaying into just stacking bricks. Tell me more about bricklaying, clearly you know lots about it.
>>
>>721215919
I know that if your dumbass can manage it then a super intelligent AI can probably figure it out.

This is a retarded place to seek info but do any of you think cops will be replaced by robots in the near future, as in the next 20 or so years? I'm already studying criminal justice at a community college to be popo.
>>
>>721215895
Yes, pop producers are very good at making music that the general population enjoys. And so is this AI, apparently. But what I'm saying is this type of music is easy to replicate, and is indistinguisable from the form of countless other pop songs.

I am a jazz pianist and I'm of the opinion that far, far more effort goes into composing something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92HtJHxosWg and that an AI cannot match the creativity needed to make uniwie music
>>
>>721215577

Because A) you get that money on top of what you make brick laying.

B) the test runs showed that is not what happens. People kept working. The only ones who stopped were highschool dropouts who went and finished their diplomas, and new mothers who could actually afford to stay home with their kids.

C) i dont know what country you checked on for figures but in ours the basic income is 1/5th of what me and my wife make. Its hardly liveable, but a nice extra chunk on top of regular income, and surviveable if something should go wrong.

D) thats the goddamn point anyway, this is meant to work towards a system where there are no more jobs because ai and robots are cheaper and noones hiring anymore.

When we get there, be as lazy as you goddamn want.
>>
>>721206557
>What kind of jobs are still gonna be around in the future?
Robot Repairman
>>
>>721216035

But my point remains that you claim a robot will replace the tradesman (probably the sect of workers that will last the longest), while knowing absolutely nothing about the trade and how hard it would be for a robot to be able to perform all the tasks a brickie does. As i said before, it's a lot more than stacking bricks.
>>
>>721216085

I understand that I don't understand brick laying. You apparently don't understand what "super intelligence" means. So who is really the dumb one here?
>>
>>721216467

I'm not saying a robot couldn't figure out how it's done, I'm saying it's unforseeable that they could build a robot capable of doing it. Knowledge and practical application are different things. I know how a delicious turkey is cooked, but that doesn't make me a master chef.
>>
>>721216712
Some things are forseable. This is one of them.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technological_singularity
>>
>>721216877

Ok that's fine, the only point I've been trying to make is that i think there are certain jobs that cannot or will not be replaced for one reason or another. "Technological singularity" or whatever might be forseeable, maybe. But a world in which 0% of people work? That is a different scenario. Technology will not lead to 100% unemployment.
>>
>>721217246
It might, in the very distant future. It would be kind of cool to live in a resource plenty utopia where robots do literally everything and no human is required to work just to eat and have shelter.
>>
>>721217246
Yes it will. People won't do things for money someday. Someday people will do things because they are inspired. If you are inspired to lay bricks you can do that, but you won't have to.
>>
>>721217469
>Distant future.
No dude. This is gonna happen so much sooner than people realize. The rate at which technology is advancing is getting faster every day.
>>
>>721217246

I dont know what others have been saying but I use the term mass unemployment for that reason.

There will still be jobs, and there will still be those who must work.

Youre a bricklayer so if I know anything about you being an ICI carpenter myself, staying home must be hard for you.

Heck im off today and im at home feeling antsy and depressed and using /b/(the real sign somethings wrong).

Lots of people will still make use of their time, even if its for free. We cant just sit home all day and do nothing. We need purpose.

Ignore the wellfare bitches who are legit on it because theyre lazy. They hardly represent humanity at all.

>>
>>721215499

Sure, no problem buddy.

It kind of depends what you like to be doing though. I'd say C# is pretty safe to learn, since it is used for a lot of things. It's good that you've done javascript and actionscript. Even though actionscript is as good as dead, these provide solid basics to get you started with anything else.

There are a lot of people who want something with websites, so and understanding of HTML can go a long way.

Best thing you can do is just go hunt some jobs. Make yourself a solid portfolio with some work you've done. Show them you've done some programming and you're willing to put effort into learning and they will likely hire you on the spot and introduce you to whatever language you need to learn to get the job done.

But since you mentioned freelancing. C# and javascript will cover a whole lot if you just need to get a quick job done.
>>
>>721218273
Ray Kurzwiel says 2045. I'm inclined to agree with that very wise man. Its possible it could be sooner though.
>>
>>721218273
>>721218385
Technically though 2045 is when the actual Singularity will happen. We will have no use for jobs long before that.
>>
>>721218299
Much thanks!

Yeah i figured actionscript was long dead.

But it had enough in common with C++ if i remember correctly that it definitely served me well.

Ill get on this stuff.

I have nothing for a portfolio so Id better start building.

C# and javascript

Medicine. People will always get sick.

Those are the big two. Other than that, pick something you like. As long as it's not completely retarded (read: philosophy major) you should be able to find some practical use for it.
