They made a lot of terrible decisions between the mid 90s and 2013. They expanded too fast and ended up over-saturating the market - towns that could barely support one store had two or three. They got in bed with DirectTV and a couple of other ventures that didn't make sense. They also couldn't compete with Netflix's pricing and convenience, and they tried real damn hard in in late 00s.

And these people didn't learn form their mistakes - look at GameStop. They're not just following in Blockbuster's footsteps, it's being lead by a lot of the same people, or they were for a while there. Bottom line, Blockbuster died because it was poorly ran.
