It's your first offense so they chance of jail time is fucking miniscule, if you had a decent lawyer or representation you'd likely already have a deal for parole. But I quit because even working over 40+ hours a week I wasn't even making enough to pay rent, let alone survive, support a child, pay bills and put food on the table. I was working with an autistic kid after school, teaching him social cues and basic math and stuff. dont worry tho OP. if this is your first offense, youll likely get 3 years probation or 30 days in jail tops, and they will usually prefer to give the probation.

i knew people with multiple grand larcenies and prior offenses who did six months. similarly, most first offenses that are thefts end up with probation.

when sentenced to jail, a lawyer or public defender can request a week or two delay in order to get your affairs together. they usually do this for any non-violent criminal.

Hi, i know someone who went through something very similar, got caught shoplifting, and they had a dependant as well. They explained their situation at court and got fined and got probation. Since you said you have a dependant its very unlikely youd go to jail, so good luck out there!

Plus, in the worst case scenario if I did lose our apartment, the car would be a temporary roof over our heads. Before I had a car, it cost me about 200/week in travel expenses to get to work every day. especially because certain places are not accessible by public transportation after a certain time (some public transit stops as early as 6pm) which means the only way to get there is with a taxi, which is expensive as hell.

the car has been a life saver. it allows me to make way more money and take care of us. it's literally the most important thing I own right now in our situation
