In a geocentric cosmology, the sun, moon, and stars are on crystal spheres rotating about the Earth. He's looking out past the spheres at the machinery driving it all. Note he even sees some gearing with clouds on them, as if soon to be driven through the sky.

It's about reaching through the veil (the firmament), projecting your awareness beyond Earth and interacting with the heavenly realms. The wheel-esque thing you can see in the upper left is the form of the class of angles which protect the throne of God, Godhead itself, the fountain of all.
It's one of my favorite all time pieces of art. Search "Flammarion" to see the original.
I don't really have much on my computer, but check out Pete Mohrbacher's Angelarium series. s'good.
>>720574081
Nope. Inflammation was an early scientist and astronomer he even named a few of the moons in our solar system. He's quoted as saying :
>It is by the scientific method alone that we may make progress in the search for truth. Religious belief must not take the place of impartial analysis. We must be constantly on our guard against illusions.".
TL:DR:
You're a douche bag and your favourite artist thought so too over 150 years ago.

>Muh materialism
If you are actually naive enough to think, and wilfully ignorant enough ignore, all the signs that point to there being more. The primary reason for stellar observation was to know the timings of the etheric tides of the heavenly spheres.
Well you shall die a well deserved mortal's death if you persist on this course.

Here's another quote from your favourite artist. Someone who you think drew from "reaching through the veil, projecting your awareness beyond Earth and interacting with the heavenly realms"
Remember, this is over a century and a half old by now.
What was obvious to him then still eludes you despite all the advantage of your birth:
>This is very far from being demonstrated. The innumerable observations which I have collected during more than forty years all prove to me the contrary. No satisfactory identification has been made. The communications obtained have always seemed to proceed from the mentality of the group, or when they are heterogeneous, from spirits of an incomprehensible nature. The being evoked soon vanishes when one insists on pushing him to the wall and having the heart out of his mystery. That souls survive the destruction of the body I have not the shadow of a doubt. But that they manifest themselves by the processes employed in séances the experimental method has not yet given us absolute proof. I add that this hypothesis is not at all likely. If the souls of the dead are about us, upon our planet, the invisible population would increase at the rate of 100,000 a day, about 36 millions a year, 3 billions 620 millions in a century, 36 billions in ten centuries, etc.—unless we admit re-incarnations upon the earth itself. How many times do apparitions or manifestations occur? When illusions, auto-suggestions, hallucinations are eliminated what remains? Scarcely anything. Such an exceptional rarity as this pleads against the reality of apparitions

because you realise you a spec of dust on a spec of dust in a tiny cloud of dust in a bigger cloud of dust in a slightly larger cloud of dust in a mediocrely sized collection of dust clouds that is grouped together to a cloud of dust with other dust cloud accumulations which makes up 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 percent of what existst??? your allow to feel so
your nothing
>>720575719
No. Point is the picture is about a person pulling back the veil and seeing the scientific reality behind every day existance.
The artist was a 17th century scientist, mostly interested in astronomy, meteorology and psychology. True, he believed in life after death, but his arguments for it were all weak.
In this reality however, he was a maverick: pointing out correctly the reality of the sun as a small star and the earth and its moon as an unlikely but ultimately unremarkable fixture of the universe as well as identifying the problems with common superstition and how it did not withstand scientific inquiry.
He wrote at great length dispelling the kind of 'nonscientific new age hippy bullshit' which you so proudly tout.
The image is a man escaping from the 'image of reality' and realising 'reality' as it exists for a scientist. The sun does not rise because it is what suns do, or because God wills it. But because the Earth orbits the sun and the sun orbits the Earth.
What surprises me is that after tens of thousands of years of 'wise men' and 'shamans' being in charge of wisdom nothing was achieved. But in scarcely 200 years of scientific advancement we have touched the very moon that Flammarion dreamed of. Do you not see the disparity there. If your kind was left to govern knowledge humanity would still be scratching in the dirt.
Materialism will give us the stars.
Img limit reached. Good night, thanks for the art.

>back the veil and seeing the scientific reality behind every day existance.
>Implying mysticism and magic is not scientific
What sort of plebeian are you? Get on the quantum conscious train man (or you're gonna be left behind).
Do not mistake me for dismissing the worth of studying the physical universe, my contention is rather that people tunnel vision on it, thinking it to be the totality of what is. That is a grave folly.

>>720567856
Who made this
>>720576780
Quantifiable and undefinable but still somehow scientific. Litterally the definition of new age hippy bullshit.
We're having this conversation because materialism works.
Its because a wafer of silicone thinner than a hair was doped with boron to make tiny pathways for electrons to flow through to allow the computations which make modern computing possible.
We could be sitting around talking in a circle about how everything is 'connected' and the we are nothing more than 'the universe experiencing itself".
Instead we're communicating at close to the speed of light using materials smaller than your smallest nerve fibre and satellites orbiting the earth faster than a bullet.
You new age shitlords always talk like you're the one eyed man in the world of the blind. But you're really just half blind and fully stupid.

Materialism is the dominant worldview. Spiritualism is already dying out. In our lifetimes we will see secular humanism reinvented as a coherent religion for the educated masses.
There is no room in the universes for guesses and blind faith. Only materialism can save us. Only materialism will let us become what we truly are.
