When I was in middle school math class, we were solving some equations.
I wasn't paying attention to the lecture on how to solve the equations, so I worked my own way to get close to the right answer.
I didn't show my work, so the teacher asked me how I got my answer.
He the said something along the lines of "so you did the work, but not the right work."
He later told me that I was a a smart kid and started a supplementary math class for our pod (students with the same core class teachers).
He put in extra effort because he believed in me and understood a part of the way I solved problems like nobody else did.
I later told him that I didn't want to go to those supplementary classes anymore.
Years later thinking about it, it seemed like I should've kept going. It fel like I let him down, and I impeded my own intellectual growth.
