You might try visiting a gun store (or just the internet if you're outside the US). Lately we've had this new form of ear protection that looks like a hearing aid rather than a bulky headset. It does a great job at reducing the sound a firearm makes while still leading you talk to people without screaming. I have no idea how well that would work on music though. Outside of that, I'm out of ideas.
