Favorite movie?
>Pic related

And before you start, allow me to pop your little bubble. I don't care if you don't like ACO, nor do I care if you think it's overrated, or that you've only seen like four movies in your life.

Now, what's everyone's favorite movie?
>>
>>720217332
that movie was crap
>>
>>720217440
And you're entitled to your wrong opinion.

What is YOUR favorite movie?
>>
>>720217332
It's OK, OP. Relax, breath, have some tea. If you like it, it's a'right...(The movie is a masterpiece, though...)

Favourite Movie: Amélie

>>
>>720218458
I didn't like it at all, but I can understand why people would like it.

Clockwork orange is a steaming pile of shit. Even Kubrick thought it was silly in hindsight. The fact that it's your favorite movie and that you dedicated two euphoric sentences to paint a great, big, cock-shaped target on your chest means you're retarded and shouldn't discuss kino

Its a great film of that era but not one of the best of Kubrick's work. Full Metal Jacket, The Shining, Dr. Strangelove, 2001, and Lolita were all better films that he produced. ACO is great, one of the best films of that era, but not even in the top 5 works by Kubrick.

Without a doubt it's a masterpiece. Virtually everything Kubrick directed was. But how can you watch it more than once? That movie is two hours of being forced to feel sorry for an unsympathetic psychopath. It's so fucking taxing I don't know how it could be your favorite.

That being said, mine is also Kubrick.

Amélie is, in short, a Romance movie, but it develops in a very unorthodox way. It has comedy, it has drama, it has very bizarre scenes because of their presentation, and love. I adore this movie, and although you may not like it I cannot stress enough that you should watch it. I can only hope it resonates with you.

Little advice: Don't go into it expecting something specific. Let it surprise you.
>>
>>720217332
It's a good movie OP.
But the concept that a criminal can't be reformed, because on release he will still be treated as a criminal leaving him little choice but to go back to his former life, is hardly a great concept.

It's a factual concept.
That's why majority of inmates are not first offenders.
It also.fails in not identifying that the individual themselves hold a.problem that prevwnts them from integrating into society.
>>
>>720218817
It won't. Force Awakens was sterile. Rogue One was irredeemable shit on every possible level. The Last Jedi will be a bit more inventive than Force Awakens - likely dealing with its own plot - but won't do anything too risky to in anyway hinder Disney's 25 year merchandising plan for the dried and hollowed shell of skin and hair that the Star Wars franchise has become.

I think we will need at least 6-7 years to make that call. Empire Strikes Back is one of my favorite films and its 37 years old. Star Wars films are often plagued by novelty where the fact that it is new distorts its placement in the favorites. I will be able to really give an honest answer about episode 8 when its no longer new or remotely fresh and I can watch it year after year like I can with Empire. In 2017 you can't make a fair comparison, but in 2024 I think you can legitimately pick a favorite.

The Force Tree idea could be interesting if they do it right. The Dark Side cave on Degobah is a similarly weird concept that ended up being great due to it's execution.

In general I'm more excited for Kylo, Finn and Rey's continued development, Knights of Ren, seeing the power vaccum left behind after the destruction of the Hosnian System and seeing Leia confront Kylo.

Rogue One exists only to generate capital through the Star Wars brand during the interim in main-line entries. All the main characters die long before the audience has any reason to care about their lives. The story has no weight, as it is ingrained in the Western cultural identity that the Death Star plans are successfully stolen. With these two elements missing, the only emotional worth the film has is nostalgia - which is a sensation akin to sexual pleasure rather than catharsis.

Rogue One is porn. Bad porn for stupid people. Fifty Shades of Grey is a better film.

Seeing SW wrested from the hands of George Lucas was simultaneously the best and worst thing to ever happen to the franchise. Yet somehow having the most recent iterations veer off from where the story was originally intended to go makes me deeply sad. The mouse basically told Lucas to sit and spin on where he thought Ep. VII was supposed to go.

That being said it's had it's hooks in me since a very young age, and I still get giddy right before the title crawl. I'm a good little consumer, I know. But seeing Vader fucking walk through a dozen rebels like some angry S&M salad shooter damn near had me jizzing my pants.

And the film is worth seeing for the simple expansion of the SW universe. A part in STAR WARS' crawl that I was never interested in now seems like a pivotal part in the Saga.

>>
>>720220368
Nonsense. Star Wars has resonated with millions and millions of people, who have completely enjoyed them. Just because you don't like it, it doesn't mean it's not worthwhile.

Though to be honest, I can't even watch it anymore. Lucas's changes finally added up to be too much. He altered the climax with Luke and The Emperor, and it's just...it's juts so bad. I loved the climax of Jedi, ewoks or no. Though they never bothered me as much as they seem to bother people now.

my DVD collection ive accumulated over the past couple of years (90% of it, excluding the Jaws series, Edward Scissorhands, Blazing Saddles, Bachelor Party, Monsters Inc. and Jimmy Neutron)

they're movies i loved as a child, from my Dad's favourites (big 80's influence as you can see) and from recent movies I really enjoy watching. A large portion of these movies are regarded as trash, but I love every single one for varying reasons, no matter how poorly produced, directed, acted or scripted, some may be. some i love because they are just hilariously bad.

Also the list is movies I am yet to buy, some are going to be difficult but i will try.

jj abrams is the kind of guy that forces in a few winks at older films to make the audience think theyre watching the good ole days(lets have an alien chess board here, a droid trainer shit), but he doesnt get what makes these scenes special to begin with(khan from into darkness is his worst example, just cringe).

that isnt even into the plot, how its a weak rehash of the originals (thats again, all specatcle, no understanding), the wasted potential of finn(no complex things about allegiences or decisons, just "whoops im not brainwashed because blood"), rey just knowing what a mind trick is without seeing someone do it, and then wasting a chance to see the han and luke interact again after so many years just because grumpy ford wants to die.

and contrary to what he thinks, han solo isnt the main thing of star wars, luke is, and they waste all this movie just to get to a scene of luke, who abandoned all his friends and family because some stupid marketing thing.

I dont care when people say "oh it had to be just this because people needed to be won back", its star wars, it can have the fucking gonk droid be the center and it'll make a billion

Honest question. What would you have preferred Force Awakens to be?

As far as Rogue One, I'm going to go ahead and say that the story was also basically a new hope. The difference being they all died

Finn was brainwashed because he was taken from his family and raised by the First Order. What the fuck are you talking about bruh? Rey knew about the Mind Trick because she heard of Jedi prior to TFA. On a side note Luke didn't see anyone use Telekinesis before he did it in the beginning of ESB and before you mention Ben he taught Luke blast deflection and that's it. I bet you don't have a problem with that. I wish Luke and Han could have seen each other again though

>Honest question. What would you have preferred Force Awakens to be?

to be frank, something fresh and new. at least then i can say something new and fresh was added to star wars. thats what i want first and foremost. i dont care if you have to make it about some newbie jedi, someones son or daughter, or some smuggling young guy, just give me something fresh.

of course you have to have some skywalker connection whether its their presence or whatever(i never read a novel from star wars, i just know at some point some fish people fuck alot of shit up and theres some blue imperial everyone likes)

i just wanted something new and hopefully well written, i have nothing specific in mind

>>720221399
>Finn was brainwashed because he was taken from his family and raised by the First Order. What the fuck are you talking about bruh?
and? thats pretty fucking lazy. they could have him make some moral decison questioning his alligence, but nopw, its some reverse manchurian candidate. and before you say
>he does that when he sees his friend killed
then why didnt he have a problem with any mission before

>Rey knew about the Mind Trick because she heard of Jedi prior to TFA.
whats the evidence of this? i see in the film kylo try to raise his hand to probe rey, then she jumps from that to looking at a trooper and telling him what to do.

>On a side note Luke didn't see anyone use Telekinesis before he did it in the beginning of ESB and before you mention Ben he taught Luke blast deflection and that's it. I bet you don't have a problem with that.
rey does that in tfa too, i didnt care when she did it or when luke did it. but luke isnt anywhere near good in empire, and gets his ass handed to him throughout that movie, with whatever good shot he made at vader only because he was going easy till luke pissed him off

I get that you don't care but ACO was trash even by the standards of the time. The only thing that was remotely compelling in the entire movie was when the guy comes out and begins to talk about the ethics of brainwashing and whether it's better to be a good person or an individual, but that guys is shooed away and the movie goes right back to banality. Good movie if you're a rape fetishist I guess but has no other redeeming characteristics.

Also if Rey is a Daisy Sue like everyone says she is ( I agree to an extent, but it's a small extent) then so is Rogue One's girl. She's also a superfighter who can take down squads of man with her Star Wars nightstick.

Slaughtering a village full of innocent people ain't enough? Wow

>then why didnt he have a problem with any mission before

That was his first battle and he was sent to reconditioning prior to TFA...seems you don't know a lot about the story ver well >_>

>whats the evidence of this? i see in the film kylo try to raise his hand to probe rey, then she jumps from that to looking at a trooper and telling him what to do.

When Rey says "So the Jedi were real?" If she knew about them in general it's safe to say she could have heard about their ability to control the minds of the weak minded

He definitely struggled more but we have only seen 1/3 of Rey's story. Who says she won't go through similar or different struggles in later films? Rian Johnson says the characters in VIII will be tested immensely so we are likely to see Rey struggle more. Especially considering that Kylo will complete his training and probably won't be getting hit by any bowcasters any time soon

saw it 3 times, twice with friends, once at home.

finn lands with his troops, shoots the villiage, then a troopers hand goes on his mask and leaves blood(which, why? its star wars, blasters dont cause blood), and boom hes out of his trooper mindset
>>
>>720222247
no not a knock off, a reimagining of a similar concept. that's like saying the chocolate long john donut is a knock off of the chocolate chip cookie

No shit he doesn't do it because he's not an evil prick. It would have been interesting if he had done it but he was still faced with a moral dilemma and that along with the possibility of being reprimanded led to his defection.

As for the line where he says that was his first battle he says in when he tries to convince Rey to run off with him
>>
>>720222319
Are you two arguing about how she kinda sorta did a bit okay in a fight against a guy with a gutshot and unfinished training?

Far as I know, Kylo has no official training with that lightsaber. He made it after he betrayed Luke (as far as I've read), so I doubt anyone ever taught him to use it. In terms of handicaps, it was a pretty even fight as far as odds. Unlike that pussy Finn who got stomped

No that is actually not what happens. He does not engage in any combat whatsoever, and the blood is called "the art of visuals". Maybe a vein cauterized and then burst open again. That does happen in real life.

Watch the scene again. Just go to Putlocker or something and watch just that part.
>>
>>720222100
>so the jedi were real?
Never understood this. They'd existed for what, three+ millennia of galactic republic rule, and in the course of like 30 years, damn near everyone just... forgot? Palpatine fucking mentions them in his inagural address, and in the course of what isn't even half a lifetime, they became a whisper of a legend on the breeze?

I never bought it. Threw me right out of the narrative. There were psychic warrior monks as the police for literally thousands of years and it's reduced to hocus-pocus in a couple of decades. Doesn't make sense.

But such is Star Fight
>>
>>720222372
I take it back. I just watched the scene again, and he is indeed taking part in the combat. I guess shellshock upon seeing his first buddy get killed?

There IS a line where they say it was his first mission. It's either him to Rey or Phasma to Herr SS Colonel Bill Weasley
>>
>>720221042
They have a scene where Silver trooper bitch who's name is escaping me says Finn has had to be reconditioned multiple times so clearly he was never properly brainwashed. Rey learned about the force after having touched Anakin's lightsaber. (plot crutch I know, but they did explain it, no matter how shoddily) Luke left because he was put in charge of the most force sensetive person in the universe and trained him, only for him to turn out to be a shitty guy and start murdering people. That's the kind of thing to send someone into exile.
>>
>>720223067
Finn's a traitor and a coward I cannot relate to, Rey's a shameless Mary Sue, Poe's a golden retriever in human form, Maz Kanata is horny Yoda, Han and Chewy are Han and Chewy, and the whole thing is an obvious cash-grab for a $4b investment

It was not a fun experience, as badly as I wanted it to be

>Whiplash

Damien Chazelle is now getting the credit he truly deserves with La La Land, though Whiplash was far superior. Whiplash's focus on the relationship between Teller and Simmons was complemented by the cinematography, and exemplified by the unparalleled performances in each role. Most perfectly executed film I've seen, not very deep, but an enjoyably well crafted tale.
