As an asthmatic who lives in an Obamacare Medicaid expansion state, it's been a life saver being able to get even the fancy name brand albuterol inhalers for only $4 instead of the $200+ they usually are. I can actually go outside and exercise and, in the long run, will be less of a drain on the healthcare system if I didn't and just stayed inside and got fat because trying to not be fat was literal torture.

Being a doctor under Obamacare was a nightmare. You had to see way more patients with the same limited amount of time and resources, and if a patient was unhappy, they could potentially sue you for everything you had. Obama care was a joke. I had the bronze tier package and it was literally placebo healthcare I was forced to pay for. It was just 3 $60 copays just to see the DR. For the lonest time, the "accelerant" or chemical used to actually push the drug through the canister and nebulizer, was called Chlorofluorocarbon. The real root of health care costs has nothing to do with single payer, romney-care style ACA, or 'free shit'

It's the fact that nearly ALL of our medicine is currently palliative. We have two major things we do in medicine: Boost the body's immune system and let the body take care of things naturally, or reduce your suffering while you slowly die of your ailments.

Why is this? Because the human body is the most fucking complex thing we have an industry to manipulate. The state of the art of science and engineering has just barely gotten to the point where we can make predictable and repeatable changes to the body's structure, despite knowing how many body failures work for a long time. Until the CRISPR systems showed up, genetic engineering was shooting in the dark. Now that we have it, we can make the first few steps towards moving to honest-to-god CURATIVE medicine. Regulations hurt a little (and we can fix this by changing how we test medicine from clinical trials to humans-on-a-chip), and the 'muh free shit' subsidization the rich do of the poor also hurts a little more, but nothing hurts as anywhere near as much as the fact that we're currently putting bandaids on bullet holes. We do everything we can to keep people from dying and as people get closer to death that cost goes up exponentially.

IMO we should implement a quick-n-dirty singlepayer system for now, ride out the 'but muh taxation is theft bullshit' from republicans, pour a shit ton of money into regenerative medicine and genetic engineering, revamp the way the FDA tests drugs to increase effectiveness and also reduce regulatory compliance costs and then once we've actually got actual curative medicine, slowly switch back to a 'everyone pays their own way' model, because at that point doing it becomes financially possible without simultaneously being genocide of the poor.
