We are so fucked.

Just what the fuck were Republicans thinking?

Honest question, /b/.

Why are Republicans so fucked up?

What makes them think the way they do? Can't they realize that their thinking is selfish and corrosive to society?

I mean, I'm Democrat and I believe in working hard. There's nothing liberal or conservative about that.

But in my experience, all Republicans have ever done is taking money for themselves, helping big multi-national corporations by giving them giant tax cuts.

All the people in Trumps cabinet are absolute and pure evil.

How do the Trumpfags on /b/ endorse this?
>>
>>719625649

>All the people in Trumps cabinet are absolute and pure evil.

Anon, that's not really true.

Rick Perry's in there, no? He's just plain dumb, anon. So at least some are just really dumb.

I mean, to be fair, you can look at responding to droughts by lowering the state fire fighting budget and organizing a day in which everyone prays for rain in a sports stadium as either dumb or evil.
>>

This bible-toten conservafuck inherited her money from daddy. Amway. I used to live in Michigan, near grand rapids. Another detached republican who "pretends to care" about the 99%.
>>
>>719625849
Well, if you can agree that he is "dumb," then if you look at it scientifically, he is evil to our society.

Say we are all smart and understand that his stupidity will hurt our country as a whole by him making the wrong decisions, then that would mean he is fundamentally evil to our country.

By hiring a caveman as a fireman, who clearly can't do his job trying to save people. You're proactively killing innocent people. That is evil.

Sure, if you argue negligence is evil.

Common man, you haven't figured it out yet? Republicans operate under pure ponzi-scheme rules and they hit the golden quadfecta of a Republican President, a Republican house, a Republican senate, and very soon a Republican Supreme Court. The next two years are going to be nuts, they are going to be making so much money with backhanded deals. Right now Trump is doing a classical move called layering. He is appointing all these morons who will take the blame when they fail and the money in all their departments end up funneled into the hands of various companies and corporations. This money trickles down (what Republicans really think about when talking about trickle-down economics) to news agencies like Fox News so they keep at their shtick and to congressman as presents and campaign donations. It's all about money man. Trump's already made millions in the few short months he has been president-elect by simply using tweets to manipulate stocks.

He needs the help of congress to dismantle them and that will take time, putting somebody in charge who hates the department is something he can do now and without congress.

Next step will be the US budget, expect deep cuts in all of these departments.

The kind of place you're thinking of creating is like China.

Where you walk down the street and everyone tries to sell you cheap knock-off bullshit.

At some point you're being sold so much shit, you're swimming in shit and there is nothing genuine left.

If all Universities can lower their standards, there is no point for any University to self regulate. They can all lie about their scores to get more funding. Eventually, the whole country becomes fucking stupid (which is kind of already happening) and it's because of people like you who believe that by everyone fending for themselves they'll somehow become smarter.

You fucktards who don't understand the concept of private education, listen up.

THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT MAGIC. The government pretends to set standards and in the end it only creates a safe haven for useless bureaucrats to siphon money from the public tit. You want accountability in government? Good luck. We go from 'No Child left Behind' to 'Common Core'- from a dozen programs before to a dozen after, all of it American-style socialist BULLSHIT.

Yet America's test scores are among the lowest in the civilized world. As with health care, another area deemed too important to escape government meddling (even before Obamacare) the incentives are all fucked up and the results are shitty.

The problem for lil johnny has nothing to do with "paying a little more" for healthcare.

The US is paying 6 times more for worse care than any other first world country. This is not a random event and it has nothing to do with health care.

Do you want to save old naan? start lobbying for more doctors, we need ten times more doctors and the American medical Association union does not let us have them.

Once our costs are similar to europe we can start talking about socializing it

Cont. From part 1

You say a bunch of phony, for-profit schools would emerge to bilk parents? Yeah. People are always trying to get away with shit. But unlike GOVERNMENT CONTROLLED education there can be actual accountability. Schools will rise and fall on their reputation, with full control of how they hire, fire and train their staff. Those who do it right, using whatever means, will become the standard. Those who are shitty will become known as a toxic way for parents to spend their education dollar, they will be an embarrassment, not to mention such schools being subject to private lawsuits for failing to provide the services they promise (when was the last time you heard of any public school being punished by the parents? For fucks sake, we can’t even get abusive teachers fired in our shitty public school system)

So before you morons go assuming that just because a government department has a name that name must describe what it does, consider that America didn’t have any education department, or agriculture department, or dozens of other departments that now deprive us of freedom and parasitize us with their useless tyranny. We went from backwater collection of colonists to a world superpower in a century. Get a grip. Government is NOT your mommy to make things better and it is not your DADDY to be your king and solve our problems. It is comprised of shitty, lazy, stupid humans who are protected from responsibility in a way private enterprise is not.

He gave us the weekend and overtime, established social security, drove the unemployment rate down to zero, built the largest, most powerful military the world has ever seen, kicked the shit out of Germany and Japan, saw to the development of the A-Bomb, and positioned America to go from B-list backwater to become the world's greatest superpower ever since.

Reagents are not cheap, purification materials are not cheap. Esp if the meds require proteins that do not purify in quantity. Then to make sure it's done cleanly and correctly is also not cheap

I know that, but it isn't expensive enough to warrant 2000$ a pill.

So somehow the country needs to pay extra (by taxes as you say) but not the people (who'd pay for the said taxes)

Student loans are definitely one of the things we need to get rid of. When I went to college I worked part time, had merit based scholarships and was able to afford it.

Nowadays school prices have skyrocketted thanks to student loans and nobody can afford to go to college without getting a hundred grand plus on the hole. My daughter won't have a problem, but I feel terrible for the rest of you.

And yes, I do mean that school prices have skyrocketted because of school loans, if you don't understand this point go read a book or three

I don't know if you even understand my argument at all. Maybe I'm shit at explaining things, but it feels like you're being willingly obtuse.

thank you, that is what I have been trying to say all thread.

It cost $1000 for 50mL of a purification resin I use in my research. Enzymes can cost over $500 for 25 mg. it's expensive
>>
>>719630484
It generally only costs that much for small quantity. Large scale bulk costs are accountable. Further, enzymes can be reconstituted.
>>
>>719630484
drugs are expensive, I get it.
drugs need to add the research and development costs to be profitable, I get it.

When the drug company sells the same drug in the US and in Canada, and the canadian version is ten times cheaper. I don't get it.

The US has become the pharmaceutical companies wipping boy, trump will fix that
>>
>>719630454
I get what you are saying but the cost will still boil down to the consumer in the other country if you hike up the price to another country. Companies do not just say hey these materials now cost more but we won't make it cost more. We will just take the losses
>>
>>719630625
>trump will fix that
Haha haha he hasn't even talked about this and a bill JUST got shot down for allowing imports from Canada. Trump said nothing because trump doesn't care

>implying biomedical companies are spending all their money on materials

My company ha's made 100 billion in profits over the last 2 years. That total dosn't include that all of our scientists make 300k+, CEO'S make 10M+, we spent 1 billion on a new research facility on the property of one of the most prestigious engineering schools. Not to mention all the "social programs" where we give away drugs. We pretty much over pay everyone, spend billions on expansion, and still turn a profit of half a trillion every decade. Let not pretend we aren't over charging.

LOL, this is almost verbatim the response I was expecting from from you. Frankly, i couldn't give a flying fuck if they got a tax break or whatever. This city is now being populated by doctors, medical research scientists, interns, ect. In short, smart people. Construction is booming to provide housing for these professionals. It's a beautiful fucking thing. Fuck, even the little 'rebel' of the Devos clan started 'Artprize', which draws thousands of tourists(and their money, Lefty) to the city every summer. The Devos money invested in this city has transformed this place from a humdrum nowhere to what I have just described in the last 20 years. Anyways, I'd probably like you irl, but for now, I would politely ask you to go fuck yourself.

Grants and scholarships come from the DOE, how does dismantling it help kids now? Merit based scholarships alone will not get you trough school. Why would making education solely possible for those who can afford it be fair? You can't generalize the population based on your standards, not every kid is capable of maintaining straight A's for more than just not giving a shit.
>>
>>719628668
sure kid. played this game with you before.

Because your taxes pay for it, more of your pay check is taken to pay for these things

California and New York give more money to the Federal government then most of the south combined. The entire republican run states are on welfare.

If you really think school loans are the only reason for schools sky rocketing, you live in a sad little bubble. What about federal grant priority? Increased campus service's including social programs, police, and health care? What about increased research costs based on basic technological progress in the past few decades? What about the rise is non STEM degrees which has raised the enrollment but decreased the alumni support per capita? What about the effect that the plethora of people who got those shit degrees crying about how expenseI've and Art History Degree is, when it's perfectly affordable to most fields, seriously, why the fuck would you invest in a degree with no future and cry that you can't pay for it; it's like buying a vending machine, filling it with shit, and complaining that it didn't pay for itself. What about the increased focus on collegiate sports? What about the increased (demanded, and even protested by students) teacher: student ratio? What about the increasing demands from the federal government grants, with narrow time line for universities to adapt to? What about absurd cost of Title IX, and the forced investment in programs which turn no profit; the government is literally forcing schooks to make poor financial decisions.

right, this is the map that shows wellfare in terms of the state's GDP that huff uses for his sensationalistick reports.

Use your head a bit though, the statement "the majority of the people on welfare are republicans" has absolutely nothing to do with this map.

take a look at the .gov link I posted and look at where the money is actually going (pic related)

I don't care about what your R&D phd's make
I seriously doubt your bottom tier scientists (quality control with a BS) are making 300k

That's cute, you think native English speakers have science PhD's and work for top companies. Maybe if you go to Johnson & Johnson.
>>
>>719632101
100%, Boston ha's become a highly competitive market. You aren't getting through the door without a PhD. We are feeding off places like BU, MIT, and Harvard and tons of scientists are moving here because all the big players are here, Pfizer, Novartis, Vertex, Cambridge, etc. I'm sure smaller places don't pay that, but the big players do. There are over 100 biomedical companies in Cambridge alone, if Novartis wants to stay at the top, all of the staff must be top quality. If the pay isn't high, they will get headhunted for a better position. Many would rather the cash than the title.
