It's a book full of metaphors and nothing should be taken too literally. I'm not Christian anymore, but I used to attend Catholic masses for nearly 20 years of my life. First and foremost, the Bible is used as mainly a general guide, not a literal set of rules. Reading the Bible also provides many footnotes. In Genesis, the story of Sodom and Gomorrah is told. Most people who have never read this story or footnotes are led to believe that God stated that homosexuality is a sin. However, the ones who originally wrote that story, Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Jeremiah did not state a single thing about homosexuality, but about the evil vices. These vices included the rich giving money to the poor and then immediately killing the poor. There are so many translations that it would be impossible nowadays to get a perfectly translated Bible. Many Catholics know that the Bible was written in a different language but has been translated, so rather than trying to find all the answers in the book, they go to priests, nuns, deacons, etc.
