Are they the best games? Probably not. But they're certainly the ones I spent the most time on and enjoyed the most. And some have held up much better than others. Like the side scrolling platform games like Mario have held up better, still almost as cool today. The RPGs and early first person shooters pretty much need an update to be something you can sink your teeth into... and the producers of those games actually know it so they've been rebooted a few times.

Right? The junction system/gfs was awesome. Plus the trigger for the attacks/limits were my favorites. The card game was great as well - along with the weapon shops/humor.

Squall was a little whiny, the story was odd, but you get to fucking go to space, fight aliens, travel in time, drive the garden. Jesus! What a good game

Final Fantasy VIII could have been okay. Had it been the follow up to 6 the world would have been blown away to see a much more complex RPG (in story and game play) for the first time with Playstation graphics and technology.

But the problem is VII knocked the ball out of the park revolutionizing EVERYTHING about RPGs with one of the most epic casts, villains, plots every to be seen to this day in video games.

VIII was okay, but I was most of us were very disappointed with it, it can't hold a candle to FF VII-X to be honest. It's weaker than most of that franchise.

I did with VII. The story of poor confused and insane cloud, Red XIIIs back story, badass Sephiroth, Aeris's tragic death (this was back before the female love interest dying in FF became a recycled theme).

I love it. I love it so much.

I haven't had a console in 2 console generations but I'll buy a PS4 specifically for the reboot.

Sadly, this original version of it does not hold up as well as I'd like to believe. Mostly because it was basically THE first attempt at 3d type polygon graphics in a major RPG and it looks very primitive by modern standards. But at the time, most RPGs were still sidescrolling 2d affairs or VGA computer graphics; at the time these graphics were amazing.
