Trumps cabinet picks suggest that he's going to be a lot more right wing than he suggested and that the drug war is making a comeback.

not right wing - he has no political ideology.

just greedy bastards who bought positions in cabinet with huge donations to campaign funds (ie, trumps pocket - he made a profit on the campaign by charging it for use of his hotels and plane...) so they can privatize everything and make more money, or greedy bastards who bought their positions so they can run up a last gasp petro/coal bubble to make a few more billions before the world turns on them and their companies are revealed as worthless.

problem for coal and oil - since climate change is real, and to have any chance of survival we have to not burn any more, then all the stocks and reserves they have (currently valued in billions) are in fact unusable and worthless. The half a trillion russia and exxon want to make with Tillerson's help is actually worthless - there is no point in exploring for more oil, we have enough to last forever already discovered. 80=90% of current know reserves MUST NEVER BE USED.

so Trump and pals are going to run up a false economic boom on oil and coal, make it look like they are worth money, for the next four years., and cash in.

directing useful resources from real and useful industry into a bubble to line their pockets.

in the end, bubble bursts, and they run off to the bank with all the cash... and by that time renewable energy is cheaper than oil or coal powered energy, and the carbon heavy petro-coal industry collapses under market forces.

sad to say, first their will be idiots who throw money at coal and oil instead of backing renewables and making America Green and Great rather than black and dusty and old fashioned and broken...

Jeff Sessions. The biggest drug war advocate in Congress. He's going to be the new attorney general and he is also a huge fan of civil forfeiture. His plan appears to be to use assets seized from dispensaries and their owners to fund the drug war and shut down more dispensaries until only a few remain. He's even talking about going after medical but not all medical although he says he can't promise to not go after all medical. He says that the only real restriction is going to be resources.

nope, for several reasons - One: I am not that kind of pervert, and have never "thought" of Hilary. (ok in some of her teenage photos she was hot but... no, just no.)
two: Hilary isn't President elect and has not picked a gang of liars, thieves and con artists for cabinet, nor has she ever been a climate change denier (for profit or otherwise) and she would never have appointed a single one of the people Trump has picked
three: Just because Trump is an evil motherfucker does not mean anyone who recognises it is a hillary supporter. time you Trumptards got over the fact that your man lost the popular vote and won with a tiny turnout, and a low electoral college margin, and is barely legitimate as a president, especially since he was boosted by a foreign and hostile power who control him as a puppet (although to be honest it is the billions he owes them that is worrying, not the golden showers stuff - Trump could have teenage pros piss on him at the inauguration and no one would care). You need to stop harping on about how tenuous his presidency is, and how much of a con artist he is - you need to start coming up with real deep sand to bury your heads in.

Get back to me when he's not forcing manufacturers to produce in the States under threat of high tariffs, even though the end result will only be that the price of products both foreign and domestic will increase along with the threat of inflation from another decade of deficit spending, and when he takes back what he said about directly intervening in the AT&T/Time Warner merger.

Fiscally and ideologically, this an administration that bases their policies off of populism and the overwhelming and unfounded demands from their constituency, not any kind of rigid political ideology or tangible economic strategy.

I'm turning 36. How old are you?
I was asked to provide evidence. I did so and your answer is to simply attack me as an individual. Ad hominem. Let's talk about the true cost of this coming drug war. Civil forfeiture expanding allows the government to simply accuse anyone that they disagree with and take their assets. It's a tool they can abuse without much worry of due process. Top this off with the Patriot act and other right wing policies and you'll see the end of democracy. Keep in mind that Trump is incredibly hostile towards the Media. He doesn't like people disagreeing with him and has a history of doing everything in his power to silence opposition. Lawsuits mostly. Now he has the federal government to help him in his endeavor to shut up anyone who dares to oppose him. He's a dictator in waiting. This is not good.
Counter argument?

China just sent a warship into the Taiwan Strait and Taiwan responded by scrambling jets. All of this because Trump was too stupid and arrogant to understand why it's a bad idea to pointlessly antagonize the Chinese -- despite being warned about it by Xinhua after he broke protocol by recognizing Taiwan after getting elected. Now Trump has senior Rethuglikans giving hand-jobs to Taiwanese diplomats.

I like how people throw around the term "jobs" in shitfling fests like this to sound smart.

http://townhall.com/columnists/thomassowell/2012/07/11/jobs_versus_net_jobs

This article, written by one of the most respected economists in the world, will tell you why those jobs that Trump "saved" and the jobs that Obama "saved" mean fuck-all when it comes to economic growth and prosperity. Also, >>718801667 and to go along with it, consider how long these manufacturing jobs will have security. Ten years, max? When automation is integrated and improved to a point where it will cost both producers and consumers a disproportionate amount of money to maintain these jobs, they will be axed, and then we'll have an even larger domestic workforce with no work.

Not really being as fair as you'd like. the housing bubble did blow up under Bush, but both Bush and douche-bag McCain warned the democratically controlled congress repeatedly that it was going to happen but was slapped down by Barney Frank, Pelosi, Reed, etc.

And Clinton did help because he strengthened the Community Reinvestment ACT (What you referred to) which allowed the loans to be taken advantage of as much as they were. The CRA was enacted under Carter, the original blame is there with snowballing efforts under Clinton, then Bush.

Did he clarify it? He says it's not the attorney general's job to decide what laws to enforce while clarifying that pot is still illegal by federal law. He also said he's a big fan of civil forfeiture because according to him most of the folks who have their assets seized have done nothing with their lives but sell dope. He said that Obamas administration was dangerously allowing the states to experiment with marijuana reform. Called it dangerous. He's avoided clarifying his stances but when you put his vague answers together with his past statements you see what he will do. Especially the statements he made about what the last attorney general should have done.

Wasn't there for the Clinton administration? I was, I was just very young. I wasn't disagreeing with you per se (I'm not sure populism and the demands of his constituency were pivotal to why Bill enacted the policies that he enacted), but it just doesn't really have anything to do with my original post, which was that Trump does not represent right-wing politics. Right wing politics was what jumpstarted globalization in the market, because right wing politics encourages producers to widen their profit margins, reduce the cost of their products and make capital more accessible for Americans.

Also remember that it's not actually the presidents job to set such policies. It's up to the attorney general. The AG can actually refuse to go along with the Presidents plans. He can be fired, but not without due cause and I don't believe simply refusing to back policy counts. It's sort of a unique position to be in as a position that "serves at the presidents leisure" by due to accumulated laws actually is hard to fire. Like a professor at a university with tenure.

Ehrlichman said. "We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did."

The drug war isn't about drugs. If it was caffeine and alcohol would be illegal. Those are two of the most addictive substances out there.

There are still some libertarians there, they just get mobbed out of debate because legal migrants seeking work that have previous qualifications (not just referring to labor or retail work here, Asians are kicking ass out in Silicon Valley) that aren't white are valued by our philosophy, therefore we watch our wives get penetrated by black men.

Yeah let's give vacated homes out to every homeless person so they can fill it with garbage, dead animals, and used needles before they die in it and make it unlivable for years on end before a HAZMAT team can come in and decontaminate the place. except the big 4 abusers of GHG in the world won't join/do anything about climate change tax/caps. China India EU USA.

except oil consumed worldwide is going up every year and not changing. 93 million barrels a day?

To go along with what this anon's saying, let's pretend we did "redistribute" wealth and now every American citizen has $40,000. Would the majority, or even a considerable portion of this demographic, use that wealth to produce? To put money back into the private sector? Can we all be trusted to spend other peoples' money in a manner that not only increases GDP, but stabilizes it? How much money would go to recipients of it that drain public resources with NO money now? How much of it would go to drugs? Gambling? Back into the hands of cronies? How much of it could be manipulated by a foreign entity, private or otherwise?
>>
>>718807120
coal oil and gas all needed government subsidy before they became profitable. why should we stop with new forms of energy? that only helps the oil industry.

Little stoner here: How does draining public resources to curb something that nets a disproportionate negative effect relative to the negative effect of draining public resources a good thing? How does doubling down on legislation that only gives illegal producers, foreign illegal producers, more access to capital and solidifying their demand make everything okay?

Please present your counterpoint in a constructive manner, as I am but a wee little stoner.

Or raise the minimal wage to a livable wage and provide better education in places such as Kansas city Missouri and New Orleans. The school districts in poor areas are inadequate to say the least. The system was set up in a time when we needed more farmers and factory workers than intellectuals. Now machines are taking those jobs and there aren't enough intellectuals to sustain growth.

>>

It doesn't matter who the fuck the bootlegger is, the point is that it's not US and WE are paying to fight something that really doesn't need to be fought.

Also, from what I understand, alcohol isn't prohibited in Canada, only in certain municipalities of Canada. What was the positive economic and social effect those prohibitions netted and are they proportional to the net of negative effects?
