/b/ros i need your help. maybe some med fags can help me.
I am tired of working in a warehouse and want to jump in a good career that pays well...
Since i am a guy i was thinking nursing was good.... but what are your opinions on male nursing? is the job shit or something i need to know before i make this decision?
I dont want something where i want to kill myself everyday or get stressed the fuck out 24/7
Thank you /b/ros
info about me i am 28 if that makes any difference

Perhaps medical assistant or EMT might work for you.

Emt doesn't pay shit don't bother
>>
>>718788330
Then the answer to nursing is yes, assuming you have the mental capacity and discipline to make it through the 2 years of schooling. As a man you'll receive preferential treatment during hiring. Men are rare in the field and incredibly useful due to strength and some patients being more comfortable with a man than a woman. The pay is phenomenal for a 2 year degree job (100k+ starting) and the mobility is second to none. There is no other job I can think of that's in need almost everywhere in the country.
>>
>>718787382
do you like wiping bums
>>
OP here. since i work full time. do they have some classes that are able to be taken online? I work in a warehouse and getting to school would be tough for a long stretch..... but i could do it if i could shave off some classes online. I honestly need a stable job that pays well and thats why i chose nursing.
>>
>>718789112
there's some online stuff, but be careful as not all of them are actually "legit".
There is no way to get the practical training done without actually DOING it though, no online way to learn these skills.
>>
OP here. i realized some classes have to be done in person. but i know some classes have to be bullshit. just like college. the liberal arts stuff you have to do to get your degree. But i am going to have to look this stuff up with a local college..
Does it really matter? community college for the starter or just go straight into a 4 year college and pay top dollar
>>
>>718787382
I wouldn't want to be a nurse, nurses are over worked and expected to do crazy and long hours. Plus do you like wiping people's asses? That would be part of your nurse duties
>>
>>718789610
dude the wiping bums part really isnt as bad as you make it out to be.
>>
>>718789112
You can take 90% of your classes online. Just don't be a dumbass and choose to go to some university of Phoenix online bullshit. The nursing schools are usually small but they'll have been around for a while. There's often wait lists to get in at a lot of them but you aren't an 18 year old kid that needs to be enrolled by fall semester because daddy said its school or move out.

>>
>>718789905
Me too. $2000/week might just be the magic number to get me to strap on a pair of gloves and buck up though
>>
OP again. i will definitely check it out thank you for all the help. It may not sound like a lot but i literally have no one to help me in my life and thats why i came to my /b/ros. this feels like a feel thread to me because ty so much
>>
>>718789645
That responsibility usually goes to CNA's most nurses will never have to do that.
>>
>>718787382
Hey OP, Ausfag here and male nurse. Its not so bad dude, i actually love it. I will always have work and get paid decent money, shift work sucks and as a registered nurse i dont wipe asses all day. Its mainly drugs and paperwork with the occasional ass wiping

OP again. i always doubted myself so much but after working in a warehouse i know i have so much potential. ty pa fag for telling me about bloomsburg university
>>
>>718789984
Yea that shit is just not for me, I'd rather work in the hospital labs than actual patient contact. My job I do stuff that "actually matters." I work in a biochem research lab, I put the actually matters in quotes because my research furthers scientific knowledge but it's not like I'm working on cures for cancers
>>
>>718787382
Get the fuck out of central PA OP. Move anywhere with a decent climate. You could haul garbage or dig ditches for a living and be happier if you just got yourself somewhere that the winter lasts less than 6 months
>>
>>718787382
>>718787382
I was a nurse for almost 3 years. Wasnt worth it. Hated myself every day at that job. Unless you really, really love helping people, dont do it. I thought I liked people, but that job made me realise we're all un-saveable.
>>
>>718790279
Aus fag male nurse here, just for extra inspiration. I was 25 and a carpenter for 9 years while working in a wearhouse when before i decided to go to uni and get my nursing degree.. worth every penny
>>
How many hours do nurses work?
Not OP but I was considering this as well and I'm in my late 30s with just a HS diploma
Only problem is my hands kind of tremble naturally, always have and no I don't smoke or do drugs so I don't know why they do that
Was thinking of a BSN but I figure I'm too old for that now being in my late 30s
I'm in south fla btw
>>
>>718789994
That is good money, but is the stress worth it? Do you like working with people, even crotchety people copped up, and angry because their jello sucked? I'm just not a people person
>>
OP again. the only thing i could think of was nursing since i am in luzerne county. Other than warehouse work, i dont see anything else. As a nurse i know i have a good chance at getting a job when i graduate. what other career choices are their in luzerne county? maybe i am a loser but i cant find any
>>
>>718788812
>100K a year starting

I dont know what rich people land youre from, bud, but nurses with only 2 year degrees will be lucky to earn 60k.
>>
>>718790468
Hours depend on what type of nursing you do. Elderly care facilities will schedule their nurse 5 days/8 hours per day, most hospital floor nurses I know do 3 days/12 hours per
>>
OP again. i work in a warehouse where i have to deal with people all the time. I actually like helping people. some people are not so nice but thats life right? i want job security because warehouse work kills your physically and looks for anything to get rid of you
>>
>>718790520
Do you want the patient contact? If so go nurse, if not clinical lab scientists make good money, work in hospitals and no patient contact. Schooling will take longer though
>>
>>718790468
don't bother with your school you're too old now kys
>>
>>718790674
>kills your physically
Working, nursing school, then volunteer nursing for clinical hours will kill you physically. Nursing is a high stress job
>>
OP here. i am willing to go to school and learn. I am not crazy smart so i dont know if i am cut out for a lab scientist. how often do lab scientists get hired? thats why i picked nursing
>>
>>718790820
Those jobs hire More often do you think and you don't have to be brilliant. You run tests that have established procedures and have predefined results you are looking for. It's not research
>>
OP here. pulling pallets and opening boxes 10 hours a day at a very fast pace to make rate (productivity level) is physically demanding. i am a little bit of a /fit/ fag so i know.
>>
Nursing assistants do all the butt wiping and bathing. Nurses do meds and dressing changes. Yes OP it's a good job. You can making a living at It and no matter where you go you can always find a job.
>>
>>718787382
look into water treatment plant operator or wastewater treatment plant operator. Im not sure how the job pays where u live but I make six figures plus its one of the easiest jobs ive ever had 75% is just watching computer screens and making adjustments. No college degree needed
>>
>>718790820
Scientist is a stretch. I think he means lab technician. Scientists go to school for a decade, then suck dicks for research grants and positions filled by other guys that sucked better Dick for research grants
>>
>>718791165
plus you will find a job anywhere u go EVERY city needs water treatment plants
>>
>>718791165
where do you live?
>>
>>718790674
>>718790816
Yeah this guys right. Nursing school was very stressful. A lot of us didnt make it. If it werent for our awesome professors getting us our volunteer hours, I certainly wouldnt have made it.
>>
>>718791250
California. I work in the bay area near San Francisco so my pay is gonna be higher than most areas but either way it's a killer career in my opinion.
>>
>>718790674
I worked in a warehouse when I was between engineering jobs.... I recommend getting out even if it isn't for nursing. That job was the most toxic, bullshit, demanding, fucked up job I've ever worked.

I was the only person on the floor who was full time (I was a "quality engineer") and everyone else was temp, toxic, high school mentality child trapped in over or underweight adult bodies. It was obvious I made more because of my position not being through a temp agency and everyone on the floor was OBSESSED with finding reasons to go to the PM about something I had done because of that. Rampant jealousy over the fact that I put in the work necessary to make that money.

The mentality in a warehouse type job is the same as a high school. Get out. It was not only physically draining (I maintained a rigid diet and weekend gym sessions that weren't overly taxing and it was still rough on me) but mentally draining. By the time I got home to my SO I had dealt with so much bullshit from the people at work that I didn't even feel like fucking. I ate, slept, repeated the bullshit the next day. I got reported to the PM one time for taking too long to shit. It's ridiculous.

Good luck man.
>>
>>718791238
OP here......ty /b/ro. i will look into it. do i need schooling? i hope its not crazy hard or something
>>
>>718791331
volunteer hours? you need to volunteer to graduate?
>>
>>718791374
I was looking up salaries and it's 30-40k
How the fuck do you get six figures, find that hard to believe
>>
>>718791210
Kek, no it only take 7-8yrs for a PhD, I wasn't suggesting getting a PhD. A BS in bio, biochem or chem can get you a scientist job. My boss (a professor) is the one who "sucks dicks for grants" I am not involved in acquiring grant money, I'm just required to use the whores money

OP again. i am in pennsylvania 570 luzerne county if that helps.
>>
>>718791392
Not sure how it works where u live but for me all I had to do was get state certified which is just passing a test and its not that hard at all. Research a little about it in your area, out here most places offer a trainee position which means they will train u on the job and help u get state certified and u can land that job with just a HS diploma.
>>
It's a customer service job basically. Dealing with customers. Some are cool some are dicks. The gross shit doesn't matter it's do you have the temperament to put up with demanding assholes?
>>
>>718791383
OP here. 100% true. words cant describe what its like any better than you did.. you know my feels!!
>>
>>718791415
Yes, most programs have you volunteer for clinical hours...which is real world nursing experience but unpaid, stressful, long hours, on top of your schooling, school work and work work.
If you are into nursing do it, just research the program's requirements first
>>
>>718791675
OP here...i will do my best to research into it and keep it as an option. ty so much /b/ro i really do mean that from the bottom of my heart. ty so much!
>>
>>718791448
thats the bay area for you. look up a place called ebmud in California the website should list salaries somewhere there. plus most plants have a ridiculous amount of overtime and offer higher pay for off shifts since the plant runs 24/7
>>
>>718791702
I've worked a couple places where they referred to patients as customers and providing good customer service.
>>
OP again. because of you /b/ros i have 2 options to look into now. This is why i love my /b/ros when i had no where to turn. you guys save me....

RN Nursefag here. Last week I found myself starting my shift with two fingers of my gloved hand inside the anus of an 82 year old woman with dementia who was suffering from constipation. I would scoop the warm shit out of her ass as she screamed in dollups as big as hershey's kisses. I scooped and scooped till the pile was about the size of a navel orange. I then shoved a soap suds enemia up her ass and held her butt cheeks together. After about 10 minutes I released her butt cheeks and I was rewarded with a stream of loose bowel some of which splashed on my unprotected arm. I did this for around $40 an hour. Do you have what it takes to be a nurse?
>>
>>718791816
No problem. and if the salary doesn't look that great in your area remember thats just the base salary it doesn't include overtime and pay differential for working off shifts. and again not sure about there but here almost all plants will accept interns so u can work there n see what its all about and get certified

Not op but hell no. This is why I was suggesting becoming a clinical lab tech or scientist. No surprise shit purgings or coatings
>>
>>718792800
Math and how the treatment plant works. If you can't find a place that will hire a trainee or intern than u can find books on water or wastewater treatment online or at the library. Sac state offers online courses if u wanna go down that route its only around $100 to take the course so its not too bad
>>

OP again...ty /b/ro i will look into it. hopefully my area is very generous to me and gives me a breath of fresh air and a chance at a career where i dont hate my life everyday

This. My girlfriend had a friend who ended up being a nurse and she was a fat ugly fuck. We called her ass hands because she would publicly itch her ass hole and not wash her hands. She was also dumb as fuck and would always complain about how the doctor was stupid. I'm sure those extra years of college and residency doctors have to do is MUCH easier than being a fat stupid nurse.

She also almost killed someone by giving them 100cc instead of 10cc and all she cared about was not passing that class instead of almost killing a kid.
