I think the underlying reason she's seeking these people out is because she wants to feel purposeful, and feels like she needs to achieve this purpose "her own way". She has an inability to come to terms with her own self destructive tendencies. I know I'm self destructive and helping people out before myself gets me off. We're really similar when at out cores, and I guess that's why I'm so attracted to her. The only difference is that I'm a lot better at juggling my shit, so I can still manage to perform well in school. She's just scraping by, and the most saddening part about it is that she can easily outperform me if she applied herself (she got one of the highest SAT scores in our class, back in high school)
