>Every state's electoral college votes go to the winner of the majority of the state
>Except for a few
>Despite every state giving their votes to the winner of the majority of the state, somehow the election is not fair because of "muh popular vote"

Can someone explain to me this logic?
>>
>>717893388
Not only that.
>It takes a simple majority to win electoral votes
>If California had a simple 51-49 majority of votes, it would award the same as if it had a 99-1 result.
>Yet people continue to use the "Muh popular vote argument"

The difference is that those states are never consistently blue or red. California and NY are always blue no matter what, so guess who we'd have in power most of the time?
At least in our current situation, the candidates are forced to talk to those people who are decent representatives of the average man in america.

California has its own shit to deal with and Texas and the midwest states have their own shit to deal with. What you are saying is basically to put one state over all the others and disregard the others needs? Fucking cityfolk don't know what it's like to live in the country and vice versa. Giving control to city folk is to completely disregard half of the country. Do you hate democracy? Is that what it is?

It's traditional politics that liberals don't want voter ID laws and republicans do. Liberals argue that the poor man cannot afford a $30 fee and a few hours at the DMV so it's unconstitutional to prove who you are to vote, whereas apparently it's racist to ask for an ID according to Liberals.

The whole thing is pretty stupid really, you need an ID to do half of the good stuff in this country.

The claim the intelligence community is making is that the Russian government hacked the DNC's computer systems as well as the state election systems of a few states. Additionally, it has become clear that Russia was sponsoring a propaganda campaign aimed at undermining Clinton and bolstering Trump's bid for the presidency.

No one is claiming Donald Trump won the election through voter fraud. No one is claiming Russia caused or accomplished mass voter fraud and turned the election.

You can't rig an election in the United States. But you can get enough people to believe lies through misinformation.

Russians influenced how many people voted. A foreign power meddled with an American election. You should be horrified and angry.

On the other hand, doesn't matter, because they have only 2 years to fuck up as much as possible before getting thrown the fuck out in the next election, and the more they trash the place, the more decisive that election and those coming after it will be.

You realize we've changed nearly every detail of the electoral system repeatedly and constantly over the lifetime of this country.

This shit continues because it's only gone against the will of the people a few times. Unfortunately for you, two of those transgressions have occurred nearly in a row. If it continues to be this dysfunctional, (which there's every indication it will have to be, for your increasingly unpopular party to take power) it will eventually be replaced. It's only a matter of time. Enjoy it while you've got it.

After that, we can spit the Dems in at least the 3 incompatible separate factions they're comprised of currently and get some actual options in this country.

is an American author and political analyst. She is a member of the Democratic Party, briefly served as the interim chairperson for the Democratic National Committee in spring 2011, and assumed that role again in July 2016.

She was the first African American to direct a major presidential campaign, acting as campaign manager for Al Gore in 2000. She has also worked on several presidential campaigns for Democratic candidates, including Jesse Jackson and Walter Mondale–Geraldine Ferraro in 1984, and for Dick Gephardt in the 1988 Democratic primary.

Realize we had a record low turnout for this vote at all. When presented with such horrendous choices, the two least popular candidates in the recorded history of elections, most voters stayed home, and a very tiny sliver of (unfortunately for you) trump fanatics bothered to go out and vote at all.

The majority vote was not for Trump, it was for "no confidence". Trumps shit hasn't gotten any more popular since the election.

young people and poor people and minority people (oftentimes two or three of these overlap) move a lot more and work hourly jobs more, which means that their IDs which remain valid for other stuff (moving doesn't make your driver's license invalid - you don't get a ticket for that) but these laws make those documents invalid for voting purposes, meaning people have to take time off of work to visit a govt office that is usually only open during normal business hours to update their info, and often require a cost to do these things. this disenfrancises a lot of people. then republicans often pass laws to make it harder for college kids who otherwise would be considered residents and citizens of the state they go to school in to be eligible to vote in that state. this also disenfranchises lots of people.

in person voter fraud is essentially not a thing. the closest election in 2014 was decided by like 1000 votes, which means to swing that election you'd have to get like 1500 people to participate in some sort of scheme to vote more than once or to buy their votes - assuming they wouldn't have voted for you anyway already. the idea that something like this would work without being discovered is preposterous. it's ridiculous and not even worth considering. but this irrational fear is used to justify blatantly racist shit like voter ID laws and purges of the voter rolls that disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of people in some states and millions of people around the country every year, in addition to discouraging lots more people from even attempting to vote at all. it's madness and a power grab.

The states popular vote doesnt go the the electoral college. They literally can vote for anybody
>>
>>717893388
It's not about the fairness of the electoral college voting for the majority of the votes from the state, it's about the distribution of electors per state which is completely inappropriate for our modern society. It used to be that rural America had a harder time registering and getting to the poles because of lack of access to polling places. With the ease of access to personal transportation and wide spread urban sprawling it is now a moot argument. Popular vote ensures that elections like this last one with +3 million votes for Clinton actually result in what the majority of voters want. Not what a dozen or so states want.

So people in Wyoming, or Idaho, should have their votes completely negated by huge population centers, like Los Angeles or Chicago? If you get rid of the EC, are you willing to get rid of the House of Representatives? Or would you be OK with basically having double the power of the smaller states?

I think you're overgeneralizing a bit here. I mainly am around and friends with right wingers, and I listen to what they have to say without automatically disregarding them. Just had a talk with a good friend the other day about nuclear energy. He's for building a fuckton more nuclear power, and I actually agree with him. Shocking isn't it? I'm also for the right for individuals to bear arms (within reason). Crazy how you could meet people who don't necessarily fit your description of a liberal cuckfag or whatever you say.

Greater representation for a small group of people living in bfe while maybe, just maybe, it's possible for them to just fucking adapt to the new millennium that started 17 years ago. It's not as if they can't be in cities as well. They have equal access and equal opportunity to do what everyone else has or does. Fuck off with the handicapping bullshit and allow the majority of the people to determine our destiny.

Is that why most liberal cities have some of the largest debts? The reason many people vote liberal is because the liberals have attached the poor to a program. Look at Obamacare. Obama has effectively gained 20 million Democrat supporters while fucking over the middle class. They HAVE to vote in favor of it or lose those benefits that are fucking over everyone else.

You fucking idiot.
>>
>>717906165
What the fuck does that have to do with anything in my post? We are a collection of states. We are not one big population. Once we're one big population, will California and New York adopt Texas' open carry laws? How about Ohio's or Oklahoma's fracking regulations? Or will Missoula, Montana have to adopt Seattle's minimum wage requirement? of course not, because each state is a separate entity, and should be treated as such. Electoral College is key to this concept.

>We are a collection of states. We are not one big population.

Perhaps you missed the part where the election was a national election for a fucking national president for the entire national population.

You know, the part where the federal government is by and for the people, not the states, and is a representative democracy because it represents the will of the people, not the states...

you fucking nincompoop
>>
>>717907002
You mean fucking over the minority of people in the country? Why should the majority give a shit about what slightly inconveniences you? You Republicans are hypocrites who blow everything out of proportion while at the same time using fear to cram your bullshit down the throats of those who don't know any better. Who's to blame for the economy? Obama and the illegal immigrants. Who's our enemy? Islam and refugees from Syria. Russia indiscriminately shelling cities in Syria killing not only terrorists but innocent civilians? They suddenly need to be our best friends despite having recently invaded the sovereignty of Georgia and Ukraine. Hillary's campaign is the most decisive campaign ever? What about Trump and his supporters wanting to lock up the candidate for more than half of the electorate of this country? Nope she's obviously more divisive. I could keep going and going.
>>
>>717905923
The US itself is a federal republic.
A federal republic is a form of representative democracy.
There are many types and variations on representative democracies.
You can be russia and hold a public election and call it a representative democracy, even when it means nothing more than lip service to democracy. You can be the US and hold one election anyone votes in, once every four years, for the same two parties, that represent the same bipartisan consensus, with only minor differences of little consequence, decided by spending, legitimize corruption across the board, and still call it democratic, even though the thought of an actual democracy scares the shit out of you and everyone in the country really wants it to be a one party state, so long as its their party, when the founding fathers declared early that the nation dividing into political factions would destroy the spirit and execution of democracy in the country irreversibly and plunge it into war and bankruptcy and permanent chaos and tried like hell to prevent it from happening.

Being a representative democracy doesn't preclude you from being a republic, or a communist state, or imply you're an actual democracy. Or good. Or going to survive the stupidity of your people.
>>
>>717907542
Perhaps you missed the part where each state is allocated a certain number of electors? You know why? Because, once again, the United States of America is a collection of 50 individual states, all with their own laws, boundaries, economies, cultures, ethics, etc... We are not one big population. We are a collection of states, each with their own identity. The federal government does have general laws that govern trade, regulate the economy and provide infrastructure that is good for the entire population. Additionally, we have one common military as protection, though, as I'm sure you know, they do not operate outside of federal jurisdiction, as each state has it's own military force, not affiliated with the federal military. I say all this in hopes that you realize, finally, that each state is separate and unique, not part of some huge population.
>>
>>717908318
>Why should the majority give a shit about what slightly inconveniences you

Oh you really shouldn't have said that. They 9/10 will just call you a hypocrite and then ask why to libels care so much about minority blah blah blah.

Wouldn't it be nice if political candidates didn't just spend 90% of the time in a handful of states? There would be much more incentive for them to actually go to more of the country than ignoring a large portion of the US.

Niggers, either no one votes for the house & senate, or no one knows how to vote.

You had, quantified, the least popular congress in history, with the lowest approval rating ever recorded amongst the american people, for 6 straight years of declining numbers. What did those very same american people do on election day? Voted for the congress they hated to... keep their jobs.

I'm a liberal. I just want fair and equal access and opportunity to all. Does that mean I have a blow up doll of an illegal Mexican immigrants that I make sweet love to every night? No. Do I think we should have a blanket ban on Muslims entering the country? Fuck no. It goes against our values as a society and denies equal access and opportunity to potential immigrants who otherwise can contribute to our society. I'm not a fucking Care Bear who cried for every illegal that gets deported. Let's be clear here: they are here illegally after all we are a sovereign nation and it is important that we maintain a border. I do think that the right tends to jump to conclusions which are more or less offensive, immoral and inhumane however.

>You had, quantified, the least popular congress in history, with the lowest approval rating ever recorded amongst the american people, for 6 straight years of declining numbers

What you fail to understand is everybody hates congress as a whole, but ask them if they like their own congressman and most will say yes. Poll results of Congress has nothing to do with how each member would poll in his/her district or state. It's completely meaningless. It's a problem that will only ever be solved by term limits.
>>
>>717908318
It's funny you think every Republican believes in these things. Yes, health insurance premiums doubling on the working American is a problem. Enslaving millions of poor Americans under a program is not the fucking answer you retard. Medicaid/care and SS are the biggest fucking wastes and are holding this nation back.

Russia should of been eliminated immediately following WWII before they had the opportunity to build anything back up. Though, I'm not sure how you're going to bring up Russia shelling cities when we've been throwing drone strikes in the ME like it's candy. That doesn't seem to be a problem as long as the boldest letters in the headline are "1 target killed". Or the fact gitmo is still opened after making promises to close it.

Hillary's campaign WAS divisive. She literally had her followers calling the working class of America racist, bigoted, misogynists. I'll let a liberal explain to you why she lost https://youtu.be/GLG9g7BcjKs

Far right Republicans are just as cancerous as far left Democrats. I hate the "hur dur we need mur god in our lives" just as much as anyone else. But I also hate big government and throwing everyone on government assistance. That is NOT the way forward.

None of those were points i made, or would have made, and your conclusion is one i already made.

As for congressmen, while true, they either need term limits, or roman-style immunity protections (expiring after your term is up leaving you open to lawsuits and sharp pointy lengths of metal thrust into your chest)

Honestly, people nearer the top should be prepared to face higher consequences for their actions, not lesser. When you fuck up, you should expect to have your throat slit publicly on the steps of the senate.

We don't intentionally target civilian populations and we do care more about the loss of innocent lives than Russia does. We are way more calculated in our responses than Russia is, and as a result we haven't murdered as many civilians. You know damn well that Hillary said that #1 it is a gross overgeneralization, and #2 about half of the Trump supporters are deplorable racists. The average Trump supporter who wore those t-shirts and hats saying that they are proud to be deplorable is down syndrome level mental retardation. She wasn't talking about them. It's an inconvenient fact that the KKK and other hate groups actively supported Trump and helped to empower the alt right movement in the Republican party. This is what she was talking about. If you aren't a racist, then why are you taking offense to what she said, even if she stupidly said half (although she obviously didn't mean literally half) of Trump supporters are deplorables? The Russia thing, look there's so much bullshit that Putin's Russia has done in the past 10 years that to just offer a "reset" is a slap in the face to Georgia, Ukraine, NATO and the Netherlands who had a passenger airline taken out by pro Russian militants in Ukraine.

electoral college votes don't always align with the popular vote, that's all it is. People don't want those occasions-- there's only been like 7 of them-- so they'd rather get rid of it. How hard is that to understand?
