We then just threw in some drums and a percussion loop.

I use FL Studio, people say its the weakest daw you can use and they are half right. It is not particularly powerful and the native plugins fucking blow, even the simple things like EQ's could be so much better. After my first year of learning I went straight to 3rd party VSTi's etc.

No hardware, very rarely does my music even step outside of the shitty headphones I use. Poorfag of course.

And the saddest part? I've been doing this for 8 years solid.
I honestly can say if you keep doing what you do and get guided by your guitar friend you will far surpass me at 8 years.

Also FL Studio user since version 4 back in the days. There are still people who think FL Studio is a stupid toy for beginners, but unless you want to record multiple mics simultaneously (e.g. drums) it's perfectly fine. I'm using a few hardware synths too.

FL Studio is not a toy. Many successful DJs and producers use it. Like all DAWs, it has limitations. For professional applications, all recording and mixing should be done with Pro Tools. But for composing electronic music, FL with a bunch of plugins does everything you need it to.

I use about 12 or so plugins, all 3rd party, the native ones are like 6/10, it's pretty easy to find the 10/10 ones for each thing you're looking for (compressor/reverb/eq/sidechainer) with a little bit of research

Sorry dude, that is everything that is wrong with music today (to me) so I'm not in the right position. Mixing seems on point but I just don't know, I'm used to 2 decks and a mixer, it just wasn't as technical.
