Well, I had gotten kicked out of boarding school when I was about 14 and a half and so made a return back to the US. My grandfather had already retired from the military.

There have been many times when I was tired or afraid. Stressed beyond reason or actually in danger of dying (twice so far).

I don't know of I would change anything.
I think that each of us lives with some sort of regret, no matter how small.

My ex fiancé comes to mind, sometimes. Not "I miss her and she was the one"--- because that is unhealthy.

Rather it would be, I would have liked to have not troubled her with me. I blame myself,most of the time for our split.
We were young and reckless. Trying to be mature in a world that was set against us. I nearly lost myself in those cracks of reality and a love/list that it took years to shake off.

I became an Oddfellow first. I tried to help revive the Oddfellows lodge in Japan after it stopped functioning in Japan in the 1800's. I had learned about the order by a chance meeting with a business associate from Denmark. I became fascinated by it all. Afterwards, I went back home to Japan to prepare for the arrival of the reps from the US.
Shitty part was, none of the other 18 had any time to join now. There I was, the newly elected master of the lodge that didn't exist!

So, strangly, I am a member of the Philippines Oddfellowship by proxy.

During all this a Filipino member tapped me and told me I should get in contact with the Freemasons in Japan. Not the Japanese.lodge because they don't let non-Japanese join.

I then found the United grand Lodge of England and the Grand Lodge of Scotland to be in residence. I asked to join and soon after, I found myself wearing a kilt and a mason's apron.

I'll be honest, both orders have changed my life and can honestly say that it is a group of fellows that are kind and all around smashing.

I haven't been in a lodge now for years due to me moving, but I carry it with me everywhere.

Met him by chance as I was walking down the street in Osaka. I was already heavily tattooed (but not on any visible parts of my body during work hours in a suit) and it was my off time.

I was walking around in Jinbei (like Japanese easy-wear or pajamas) and smoking a cigar with some beer in my hand.

Yakuza are either very quiet or very loud depends on their rank. Loud is low and quiet is high.

This guy was loud. He commented as I walked by on my ink. I speak Japanese rather well and spoke back at him, commenting that I found Japanese tattoos to be the best in the world (not weeabo shit. This is how you complement and ingrain yourself to a culture).

Shows me that he is just starting a tattoo. I mention I want one too. We get friendly and I give him a beer. He said he never talked or liked a foreigner before. I gave him a cigar. I said that it would be a learning experience for both of us. Months later, I am getting tattooed by the tattoo artist in the traditional manner and in comes the low guy's boss (his oyabun).
I ask to stop and ask if I could serve the oyabun tea. He accepts and we all quietly share a cup of tea together.

It was odd, because my back was leaking tattoo ink and plasma and here I am, drinking tea with two actual gangsters.

My face when I couldn't finish my tattoo and am still working on it years later

Cool. Never heard of your shitty punk band but hey that's punk. Don't have any answers for you but I will say I take solice in reading your story. You remind me of me, someone smart enough to bounce back from anything. I always looked at the boyshome I was at, jail, women, travelling, fights, etc just experiences that I was lucky to have in a weird way. I feel honores to have been arrested 9 times for stupid shit and still came out on top.

Things that set you up for success:
Risk taking.

What can get you in for failure?
Trusting those in power at work.They are not your friend. They got to their position by being talented and also ruthless.

Their life revolves around that position.
You have to choose what you want.
A real life OR power.

Also, read. Read as much as you can and also have idols.
Historical figures to inspire you. Make them diverse so that your mind expands.

For example: I admire Julius Ceasar, Shaka Zulu, Voltaire, Spinoza and Neitsche.

If I had a dollar for every punk band that I've seen come and go. I always hope they find success in some way after the band. As I've gotten older I realized being punk is all in your head, not some fucking lame band shirt or $100 dogpile plaid pants. Wanna fight the system? become a lawyer or politician or involved In your local government. I don't think punk ever changed anything for me but god damn it was a good time.

For those of you that love hot weather and nature-- Malaysia. But if you like bright lights and big city--- Osaka or Seoul.

Mongolia is difficult to get a visa to and you very well might get sick being there. Food hygiene isn't so important there.
