I work in a computer repair shop for a living and at least in my case I do not look at peoples shit. I look at a few files but after that I let customer comb through the rest. As long as you didn't send it to a data recovery professional (who yes will look) and don't have "amy 11 year old first bj.jpeg" in the root of the drive your fine.

the best program from my (incomplete) list is Active@ file recovery Pro. likely there are youtube tutorials, but it's all pretty straight-forward.
- install the drive as a secondary drive, not the one you're booting from, or
- run Active@ program
- select the drive you wanna salvage
- run a deep scan, look thru the files it recovered, and copy them out to an diff drive
if the disk has a bad spot, say at 52.08% then you can do 2 scans: one from 0 - 52.07% and a second from 52.09 - 100%
