My landlord cut my wifi connection because I downloaded too many torrents, and am now posting this via SIM network...

Would appreciate if any /b/tards or /g/eniuses can help me bypass this filter. I have a limited network on my phone so I can download any necessary software I can use for this issue. I already tried spoofing my MAC address, but so far without any luck. I really dont want to pay a £500 premium just for internet...

Yeah, here is something. Pay your landlord the money and then start paying monthly for a VPN service, your landlord won't be able to know what you are doing even if he tried, I suggest the Hideman VPN, it is extremely fast and doesn't keep logs on the people who pay for the VPN. That is the easiest way to not get caught again and have your internet back. Just run the VPN all the time and your landlord can't see SHIT.

If you want on right now, I really have no advice for that. If you landlord is making you pay $500 as a one time fee, that's fine, but if it's $500 monthly, start paying for internet yourself. Cox HIGH-SPEED internet is only $18 a month and the landlord can't do shit if you torrent. If you do this, I still suggest paying for and using that VPN, because your ISP (which would be whoever you are paying for internet from) by law has to send you pop-up ads warning you not to pirate if they catch you.
>>
>>716207516

Setting up a new line connection costs £400-500 annually here in the UK. That is what I meant when I said I had to pay a £500 premium...

My landlord is a faggot and wont listen to negotiations. The rent and supplies is already hard enough to come by...

If the landlord knows enough to "cut off" the wifi, he may know what a VPN is. Even if he simply changed the password, you can try explaining what it is. If he won't listen to that, then you'll have to brute force your way I, I guess
>>

Disconnect your phone from the wifi and spoof your computers MAC address as your phones. He has mac filtering on and he removed your pc from the accepted list but apparently your phone is still on it. Not sure why you didn't figure this out on your own since you already know how to spoof your mac.

Use tmac to give yourself a new fake mac address.

Who is your internet provider? Phone them up and claim your router is broken and get them to send out a technician to replace your router. Once replaced you will have a new MAC address and IP. Just use a VPN for torrenting after.

Try hacking the router.

type your ip adress into your web address field and try the default password "Admin". If that doesn't work try the network password.
>>
>>716218155
Are you fucking stupid? Mac addresses are device specific. A different router won't change his mac. You can't change a mac, you can make whatever you're connecting too think it's different, aka spoofing it, but you can't actually change it. Gtfo.

>>716218807
I think I know a few things.

I've hacked routers before, blocked people out of my router, and reset routers.

If you get a new router, you won't be blocked anymore.

Now, that's dependent on whether the ISP is blocking your device or if the router is.
>>
>>716212457

Sounds like he's blocked your pc's mac address. Spoof that shit. Then, profit.

>>
>>716216227
Yes, that's good, but if the landlord is cutting him off based off bandwidth usage, he'll just cut off his phone, too. There's no way to mask how much bandwidth is going through your MAC ID.

>>
>>716219822
Like I said, you don't need to worry about your mac address. The router software is blocking your device.

I also suggested hacking the router by typing in your IP adress and entering your network password, and then unblocking your device.

This isn't rocket science.

ISP----> Router ----> device.

ISP ------> router blocked -------> no internet

ISP -----> unblock router------> internet.

But, fuck, I guess I'm talking to 16 year olds, so what did I expect.
>>
>>716217817
>>716216227
OP if you're still here ignore everything else. These are the only two posts that are worthwhile. Just do one of these. If you're unsure how to spoof your mac there are programs that will do it for you. Then get a vpn so you won't get caught torrenting and your landlord won't get another notice from his ISP.
>>
>>716219321
Call me ignorant, but I don't see how a VPN would help in that scenario. If the landlord is cutting him off strictly because he found out he was torrenting, a VPN would mask that because it masks the traffic. However, if the landlord cut him off because he was using too much bandwidth, a VPN wouldn't mask that. You can use a VPN to torrent but all that data still goes through the router, where it is tracked back to your MAC ID. There's no getting around the router.

My suggestion is to apologize and quit torrenting. If you really piss off the landlord by trying to get around it, he could always set his router to deny internet to all connected machines except the whitelisted ones. At that point, changing your MAC ID isn't gonna do shit unless you can change it to a whitelisted one. Not likely, unless you have physical access to those machines.

>>
>>716220417
I never suggested a new router.

Just hack the router. Type in your IP address followed by your network password.

Why the fuck would you call out a tech and replace your router? Especially considering this is contingent on the router being owned by the ISP.

Are you fucking thick?

>>
>>716220980
Most likely he lives in an apt complex that includes free wifi.
>>
>>716220868
That's a moot argument because landlord finds out OP gained unauthorized access to the router, he can give him a standard notice to move out. Where I live, that's 30 days notice and you don't need a reason. So yes, OP would be homeless or looking for a new place to live, which I don't think he's interesting in doing.

You have no fucking idea do you?
>>
>>716221056
To go onto the internet and type in a router IP address?

Holy fuck, you people are stupid.

It's probably already all fucked up as it is.

In most of these cases the landlord pays 15 bucks a month and the tenant pays 30, and it's never fucking fair.

Now, the tenant is limiting his internet. The router is technically a shared device, like the fucking kitchen. If the landlord strung banners up everywhere saying OP couldn't enter the fucking kitchen and OP just cut down the fucking banners and made a sandwhich, would he be breaking his lease? Did the lease ever fucking say not to enter the kitchen? is there a fucking law that OP can't enter the kitchen? No. you're just a fucking retard who doesn't know when to quit.

OP is lucky that landlord didn't give him the boot for torrenting. Accessing router, or gaining unauthorized to the network isn't a wise idea at all. The landlord will be able to see his device, and recognize that it was the one he blacklisted from the network to begin with. Then OP will be homeless.

>>
>>716221553
It's shared. It's a communal item. Otherwise, accessing the wifi at all would be considered against the law. OP can show proof that he pays monthly for the internet. Landlord might be able to argue that he never allowed the tenant to use the router, but then OP can state that the landlord never gave him the ability to use his own router. AKA, tenant is paying money per month for something in the lease that he is unable to use. AKA unlawful.

Also everyone is ignoring the fact that since the landlord has set up free WiFi he has modified the routers settings and has thus most likely changed the default password to access the routers settings.
>>
>>716222679
No.

If people have used a path in my backyard for 10 years and then I put up a fence, they can petition to take that fence down.

Once a thing has been used and used again, it technically becomes communal.

Especially in this case. The tenant is paying for the itnerent. If I router comes from the ISP and payments are paying for the router, the tenant is technically paying for the router as well. And therefore owns part of the router.

Often, the routers password is changed to the network password by the person setting it up, so they can easily remember it.

It's. Not. His. Router. It's his fucking landlords. I'm done with you.
>>
>>716223287
It is.

Think about it like this.

I go to the grocery store and I come home and I tell my roommate he needs to pay for half of all of the groceries.

I spent 200 bucks so he gives me 100 bucks.

Later on I win a million dollars on a lottery ticket that I bought on said grocery run. Since my roomate paid for half of the groceries, and I bought that lottery ticket on that grocery run, he technically is able to argue that he paid for half of the lottery ticket.

Honestly, am I the only one that isn't retarded here? or am I just talking to OP who is trolling me.
>>
>>716223484

>>
>>716223991
Tenant rights?

This has nothing to do with a tenant-landlord relationship.

This comes down to ownership.

Mostly, it comes down to what's in the lease.

But since you're so bad at it, I'll think a bit for you.

If the landlord was paying for cable, is the television a communal item?

Does it depend where the television is placed?

What if the television is on lease by the cable company and some of the tenants money goes towards paying for the TV?

Now. Learn. To. Debate. Or. Fuck. OFF.
>>
>>716223661
He's not OP
>>
>>716224221
Nobody is going to go to jail for this.

The landlord is making him pay for a service and isn't allowed to use it.

The tenant should refuse to pay until his service is put back on, if we're talking correct legal action.

Otherwise. Hack. The. Fucking. Router.

I'm not dude. a few weeks ago my laptop got fucked into an auto repair loop by only god knows how. I think it had to do with my phone constantly connecting and disconnecting to it from the usb. when I finally got it out of that by restoring the system, I started downloading all my programs again, one of them being deluge, and trying to update back to win8.1 but at some point they closed my port. I finally called like 4 days later and found that out. I'm still not exactly sure why they closed it though as I wasn't torrenting i just had the client. all they said was their was suspicious activity and opened the port back up after I told them about the auto repair loop. about a year ago they caught me using torrents without a proxy and I had to go to their site and read their message to connect to the internet again never heard shit from them after I used a proxy though. I have pavlov media.

No.
The landlord has been notified by his isp that someone is committing a crime and that If it does not cease he will be legally liable. The landlord iis fully within his rights and that will hold up in court 100%. Furthermore landlord is not blocking OP, just one device. In All likelihood landlord has no idea who is responsible, just has a mac address. Also if the landlord isn't a moron he probably has a terms of service on his WiFi that OP accepted when first activating his devices. In that terms of service it likely lays out specific repurcussions for torrenting and further repurcussing for tampering with the router. This is just speculation though.

Tldr: unless landlord is a complete amateur his ass is covered. Even if he isnt, he's still protected in court.

Then the landlord is required by law to provide notification to any and all parties that may be affected by the action not to just arbitrarily do it. if he does not know the specif individual then he must notify every tenet that do to the notification by the ISP one or more actions will take place. The ISP's always give warning before the cutting off of the service. And it is the duty of the landlord to pass that along.

Why not just created a botnet and spread the torrent load out... breaking router passwords is as easy as disconnecting a device from it and sniffing the packets when it tries to reconnect. Once you have the router just poison it and look for vulnerabilities. Once you get to the other machines then enable remote control and set them to communicate with your device through a vpn and spread the downloads. Then you won't get caught torrenting, no one would be able to see where it's going, and your bandwidth would be spread throughout the network
>>
>>716229182
Even so, if it went to court OP would not have a leg to stand on because he would be essential asking his land lord to commit a crime by allowing him to continue using his Internet and possibly Torrentin.

Not sure what you mean there. Windows 10 made it more difficult to spoof hardware addresses. The only way to work around this M$ software block is to delete system 32. Deleting that folder removes the block from the system and will allow you to change the MAC address like you would in windows 7. Once you restart your system, windows snapshot backups will recognize that you removed the blocking mechanism and restore the system, but this is key, WITHOUT RESTORING THE OLD HARDWARE ADDRESS. Give it a go. Its pretty cool.

A landlord isn't. The parties prosecuting torrent downloaders do.

VPNs are only good for rerouting traffic or encrypting it between two clients in the network. OP needs to run his traffic through a gateway in another jurisdiction.

OP's in UK. What happened is OP hit the radar because media firms have attorneys searching torrent networks constantly to check IP addresses of downloaders. If they're in a jurisdiction they can prosecute, boilerplate gets printed and subpoena goes out.
They do this in the UK, they do this even more in Germany. They don't have the legal measures to do the same in NL, in between the two.

If OP hits the radar again and he has an NL based source address showing up for them, they drop it right there. If it's a VPN, they will subpoena the VPN and the VPN will not want to spend money defending itself against attorneys because one of its users is dragging it into criminal activities so they're gonna fork his information over. They probably have a standing arrangement.

Reading through this thread laughing my ass off. Especially at the two dudes fighting over the legality of the situation. Neither of you is right, neither of you is completely wrong either. It depends on multiple variables. Which country, England, Scotland, Wales, etc, what region and multiple other factors. Arguing over it without knowing or at least having a good idea what those variables are makes you both stupid. However, not accessing the router without the landlords consent is probably the best course of action.

What? They're going to subpoena the VPN? As in, they're going to somehow seize control of a L2 tunnel and crack IPSec? VPN companies tend to intentionally not log the customer's activity, especially when the customer is paying. Why would they want to get involved in all of that and lose the confidence of their customer base? I can't even see a way to use key escrow, so how are you going to validate the data? How are you going to prove it?
