I don't need an AR, i've got an AK. It's a cheap wasr really, but it serves the same purpose, it's a man killer. It's not my only gun. I've got a shotgun, i've got a pistol, i've got a rifle. I have the means to defend my person and my home, I have the means to provide for myself if ever food is unavailable, I have the means to attack or defend against another armed person/group.

Why is AR-15 the only gun acceptable? If somebody had a huge slingshot and enough molitovs to be useful I would accept their level of preparedness.

I've got a 12.5" 6.8 SPC AR sitting next to me.

I own one. Would never use it for home defense as I have no intention of shooting both the bad guy as well as my neighbors the next house over. I'll stick to my 9mm with hollow points until I can get me a nice shotgun.

You've got it exactly backwards. If it won't shoot through walls it's useless for self defense. People are harder to penetrate than sheetrock. An AR15 on the other hand due to the light high speed projectiles dumps energy fast when it goes through a wall and comes apart. Very little damage in the next room(s). Shotguns on the other hand are either ineffective with birdshot, or punch through many walls which is bad in the city.

From what I have read and reviewed through balistic tests the hollow point 9mm averages around 12-16 inches of penetration in ballistics gel. I can't remember what I read of .223 but I could have sworn it had much more. I may be mistaken after all.

Problem is that walls aren't ballistic gel. When a lot of the police departments in the US switched to M4s from MP5s they had problems hitting targets hiding on the other side of walls in shootouts. Targets that the MP5 would penetrate and hit. I've seen the effects of 5.56 up close after a police shootout. They don't penetrate much after their initial target. They deform and come apart. The 9mm bullet will stay mostly intact and keep going.

In people that's probably going to act like the worst features of a FMJ. It will probably icepick and go straight through. FMJ ammo creates the wound cavity it has through upsetting as it moves through tissue and breaking at the cannelure in a lot of cases. This gives you good penetration and multiple wound cavities while remaining within the various hague and geneva conventions when dealing with other signatories of the treaties.

That is like a lot of Wikipedia stuff. Mostly wrong. Frangible bullets are typically designed to be used in indoor ranges and are typically lead free for safety. Hunting bullets are typically designed to stay intact, not disintegrate but they are designed to expand a certain amount which depends on the target they are designed for. Frangible bullets generally require a harder impact than flesh, and generally won't disintegrate when hitting heavy bone. They're not designed for shooting living things. They are designed for shooting steel at close range.

The frangible ammo that was shown is junk range ammo. Gimmick ammo like that generally doesn't work. If you think it works, find consistent gel tests in calibrated gel with a minimum of 12" of penetration and a good wound cavity.

You're making a mistake if you think the typical frangible ammo is anywhere near good for defensive purposes.
