You know I actually started wrestling when I was 13, so a really unconventional start, I guess you could say, beginning to it all. I grew up an all-sport athlete, and when I was getting to high school I thought I would continue on through varsity sports. My dad really wanted me to get a scholarship, or something, for sports, and I figured I’d wrestle after I graduated, I’ll try to do it. When I got to high school I asked about the amateur wrestling team because I thought that would be a good way to spend my time between now and then, they said they hadn’t had the program in years. I went home and decided I’d start looking for a place to train.

Most places you had to be 18-to-21, and it’s really sort of a mature-person’s game to get into, but I lived in Los Angeles so thankfully there’s a lot of lucha libre culture out there, and there’s some gyms that were willing to let me come in and start.

I grew up kind of self-supported, that kind of environment, because my parents both worked for airlines. I was used to them being gone a couple weeks at a time, and then my Filipino grandmother [took care] – we call [her] Lola in Filipino culture, that’s my grandma….. But I was kind of self-sufficient at a young age because of that, because I didn’t really have my parents around a lot, so I learned to do laundry and cook food and stuff when I was like 10. I could program the VCR when I was really young. So when I started doing wrestling, you know, they had never really kept tabs on me before and I was always a pretty good kid. I don’t drink or smoke cigarettes or get in any trouble, so they understood what it was about, that I’d be traveling. In a way I’m kind of continuing their life.
I got to do a lot of good things at a young age. I really kind of knocked out my bucket list when I was really young. I went to Japan and I lived there, I lived in Mexico for a year, I went to Europe, I lived in Canada. I wrestled for all the big companies I had wanted to go to at that time, and I had some experience being able to come in and work here at WWE as well. I wanted to further that opportunity… the opportunities won’t find you, you have to leave your backyard if you want to go get it. That’s how I approached everything else, it just so happened that I went out and moved and for the first time an opportunity didn’t really pan out.

At the time [2009-2010] it was probably just a bad set of circumstances. I bet the farm like right when the recession was hitting, and you know I’ve been doing this since I was 13 so I don’t really have a lot of work experience or anything like that. So it was kind of hard make a backup plan when things went wrong. I struggled for a few years. You get hurt and things take time, and little by little I kind of just started all over. All the old spots I had in different places all over kind of evaporated, because ‘out of sight, out of mind.’

I had to start all over, wrestling in bars and pubs in front of 10 people. Just trying to collect coins in the Wal-Mart parking lot in the middle of the night just so I could buy canned food and stuff like that. Little by little I started to get back to bigger and bigger places and got everything back on track. I never thought I’d find myself back here so soon.

I was homeless for about a week. My abusive psychotic mother got me fired from my job and then convinced the people I was renting a room from that I was planning on hurting them. I wound up with nothing, and I spent the better part of a week just walking to my old friends house and sleeping wherever seemed quiet.

Continuing: Anyways a very large portion of homeless people have mental disorders. Whether they were preexisting or developed from the stress of being homeless idk. But most I've met through volunteer work have been fairly off-center. Through a combination of family members abandoning them and terrible sense of responsibility, they likely got in the position they are in. However I recognize sometimes the stars align and the world rains shit on you all at once and your life can't take that kind of blow. You then end up homeless.

All I really want to stress is please don't pass those habits on to children. I've seen too many kids end up exactly like their parents because they had no role models. It's as if common sense escapes them

From my experience I'd suggest getting active in some clubs that way you can get keys to some of the storage places and offices. A lot of these rooms are rarely accessed by people you don't know. So just explain your situation to the ones who discover you and they'd likely easily sympathize with you and be chill.

Depends on where you live. Anyone who's lived in a major city will tell you 50% are just con artists, 45% have major drug issues/mental health problems and 5% are just legit normal people down on their luck for a while.

Where I live I get panhandled several time a day (usually by the same people) for years. There really isn't a right answer -- give em' a dollar or don't.

Most of the homeless people around where I work on a busy intersection are total assholes. They shit and piss in our dumpster area and scatter the garbage and boxes all over the ground. A lot of them are crazy and also very hateful of anyone who isn't homeless. I spend a lot of time at work wishing that they would disappear somehow, and that people would stop feeding them and giving them money so that they would go away and the plague on our little corner would be ended. I have gone so far as to pray that they would clean up their mess and/or go away.

I think some people just dont have any marketable skills. Or dont want to try to do anything. I started working at my uni as a research aide, tutor, teachers assistant, etc to get some funds. Not many people have the skills, or youth (thats a big one, people are more sympathetic towards young homeless) to bounce back. Or they just never try.

I feel pretty lucky despite being homeless. And I think generally you shouldnt give beggars money, you should give them food, a job, or (if youre a saint/good judge of character) a place to stay. They'll never make enough panhandling to bounce back.

Lol I've been homeless since may. I sleep in a closet in a building I found. Its just big enough for me to lay down. I have some couch cushions and a blanket and a pillow to sleep on. There's a light socket in here & I bought one of those adapters from home depot so I can turn it into a plug, that's where I charge my phone and vita and stuff. I also have a space heater now because its cold.

I have a full time job that pays $14 an hour but its not enough to cover getting an apartment. I did manage to save up enough for a car & insurance.

I sometimes go to motel 6 and buy a night there to take showers. Otherwise I crap at 711 or Starbucks or whatever.

I have never begged for money, or missed a day at work. When I'm off from work I just got to the mall and use the WiFi to play vita games or whatever.

I grew up intermittently homeless and otherwise in the housing projects. My mom is disabled (due to a gammut of mental and physical issues) and my dad had no ambitions and became kinda useless to society after leaving the Navy. As such, I've dealt with my fair share of homeless people.

Most of the ones I've dealt with are stuck in bad situations and just don't know how to get out. They're told what to do to get out, but not how to do it nor are they given the tools to do so. Many of them develop a sense of hopelessness, feeling that the world isn't going to cut them a break and that things won't get any better. You truly need will of steel to claw your way out of those depths, and even then the next level up is just housing projects (which are in and of themselves usually death traps). And what's there to do from there? Nobody wants to hire you if you're homeless or in the projects. Most places will just toss your application in the trash. Hence why many people turn to gangs to support themselves.

It took me joining the military to get out of the shit I was in. I'm happy with my place in the world right now (what with a college degree and tons of training it feels like I finally have some upwards mobility). But I know a lot of people aren't willing to take that kind of step (out of spite for the military or fear of deployment or whatever). Fact is, being that low on the totem pole is hell and you gotta be willing to bleed to make any kind of decent living.

Currently trying to get through college while working 40 hours a week.
Most money goes towards rent which is 850USD a month and was the cheapest apartment I could find in a shitty neighborhood.

The rest goes towards utilities, internet, car insurance and food.

I'm a grafitti writer and as such I've met many homeless people, done fresh out of jail because they wanted a roof over their head and 3 squares a day. I've met people that have streaked down the street on a Friday so they can stay until Monday. I've met people who are not homeless, merely under the system as they've used their ingenuity to carve a home in the city, notably a man who had built a trapdoor and rope ladder into the underside of a hidden piece of highway infrastructure. I've tutored homeless children as well. There's actually an age range before they know what's happening, when they are still acting just like kids, and when they know what is going on and are already shouldering depression and responsibilities above them. This range is from around 8-9, girls usually before boys. It's a scary thing, and more people than you think may be living out of their cars or on the street. Men and women in suits, lose their job and wind up in the wind. You've seen, talked to, and probably known homeless people. The crazies on the street being visably bonkers are such a slim, slim minority. Though they usually do have rather serious mental health problems, and it's rather sad there are no effective treatments to make those people better.

Tldr; homless people are generally not crazy and are more common than you think.

Nigga, is you serious? That's some fucking insane budgeting there. I think it's just something poor people like to do to rustle peoples' jimmies. A lobster meal alone is gonna be like 15-20 just for the supplies to make it (waaay more if buying it prepared).


Lobster meat and crab meat may taste good to some (but I don't like it), but it's also probably 50 bucks a pound when you consider how much actual meat you're gonna really get when you subtract the shell and waste material.

People on a 200 a month grocery budget have absolutely no business buying crab or lobster. Shit, any fish more expensive than tilapia or catfish is probably out of the budget.

At that rate, you can't really even afford anything prepared and frozen. It's all raw fruit, veggies, bread, beans, rice, tuna, chicken, and maybe a bit of ground beef when it's on sale... and that's it, 200 bucks a month on groceries PER PERSON, is a very low grocery bill. You'd really have to be very careful to make that last.

I spend 100-200 a week on groceries. But I like to drink alcohol and eat nice gourmet food and name brands. AND someone could easily spend double what I do and still not be fat.

100 bucks a week for expenses (not including bills), food/gas/toiletries is barest minimum. I've done it, but it's rough. And you'll be having a lot more eggs, ramen noodes, and peanut butter sandwiches than a person generally prefers.
