Ever seen any of these? They're cast from beryllium-copper. We machine them for the company that makes and sells them, at my uncle's shop. The material is pretty neat. Once heat treated they are stronger than tool steel, and won't spark. Pretty nasty shit to work with if you are smelting or grinding it though, as the vapors/dust can cause severe respiratory problems, including cancer.

The wrenches themselves are shit though. Whatever retard they have casting and grinding them is a fucking moron. It's almost impossible to drill/mill them on center due to how inconsistently ground they are. Even worse, the metric ones usually come with a hole already cast in the boxed ends, so of course the drill is going to follow it, plus they don't leave much stock to be removed, so the broaches tend to leave flats. They are a lot more picky about the metric ones too, because it's a Japanese owned company, and most of the metrics go there.

funny story about gallium. I bought some about 10 years ago and put it in a jar, heated it up and swished it around. The gallium stuck to the sides of the jar and i could never figure out how to get it off the sides. i used hot water and everything and it was useless. there was not enough gallium to collect into a lump and every time i tried to get it off the sides with a cloth or stick it just stuck to them too. so i forgot about it and left it sitting there...

about a month ago i found the jar and thought about trying adding an acid in it and see what would happen... well to my surprise the hot hydrochloric acid instantly fixed everything. I swished it around the jar and the walls instantly cleaned, and the acid seemed to give the gallium a surface tension so it behaved more like mercury and didn't stick to things. I let the acid cool down and washed it out with cold water and i finally had a clean single lump of gallium at the bottom of the jar after 10+ years. I was happy. The HCL acid was probably only 10% concentration.
