To make us human, to help the crushed bird which we know will die. To pet the cat cold on a rainy day to give 5 dollars to homeless for a warm bite to feel better. To treasure the littlest things in life. To kill all niggers.
My theory is they r there to instinctively correct or reward us in our evolutionary process, moreorless to keep us moving forward until our emotions r eventually replaced or overwashed by intelligence due to many years of evolution
Anyway, the thing about Vulcans is that they have emotions. Extremely strong emotions that they repress through strenuous meditation from a young age. If you really want to try and surpress your emotions, you you need to practice that.
>>675639294 This is equivalent to a child plugging their ears, closing their eyes and yelling Lalalalala. It is as important (if not more so) to learn to pick up on and read social cues from others as it is to be a critical thinking individual. The reason for this is that humans are intrinsically social creatures. Getting ahead in life means other people are behind you and supporting you in various respects. If you don't have this, you will become bitter, disconnected, isolated, and will likely blame others for your unhappiness. You would be wrong, as it would be your lack of social skills that is the cause of your unhappiness.
>>675639755 And therefore you need emotions to have purpose.
I have deduced, through experience, that life is about one thing as it pertains to emotion: Leave the world a better place than when you found it.
With this realization I now have purpose, and it is so fucking important to have meaningful actions in life.
Lets pretend, for a minute, that you are a reincarnation. That you have lived before, or that before you had a brain capable of memory you were a spirit, and you chose to manifest in the material realm for a great purpose. Lets pretend that you remember now, that you are on a great mission. You will realize a greater purpose, whether this hypothetical situation is true or not.
This is exactly how magic works. Its about using such concepts to become stronger. The idea of a god is simply to create something bigger than yourself so that you can strive for something greater.
>>675639073 Emotions are important, without them the only reason for life is to make more dirt when you die. The trick is to not live your life at their mercy and look at them logically for what they are.
>>675641039 >leave the earth in a better place than when you came into it Me and you could get along well, this has been my mission too for quite some time. On the reincarnation bit. I like to think of it this way. Every choice you make and action you take no matter how seemingly insignificant, effect the world around you. The sum of those effects is an incarnation of you, and that incarnation will continue to effect the universe indefinitely.
>>675641648 Yeah dude, awesome. I've always been extremely interested in the mind. This is only one perception of reality, it is extremely limited by the functions of our mind. And it is that humble realization that keeps me searching for MORE knowledge and/or reprocessing what I do "know".
Ghandi said: be the change you want to see in the world. And Michael Jackson has an awesome song called Man In The Mirror. I highly recommend it. I bet it will resonate with you as it does with me.
>>675642275 >man in the mirror That's a good one. I believe that the life we are living now is the only one we have, and the only time we will perceive reality. That doesn't mean reality will no longer perceive us. Newtons 3rd law
What's the point of color anon? You can see far better with an ultra high resolution black/white/grey gradient than with color. What's the point of adding flavors food that have no inherent nutritional value?
Your problem is trying to see "the point" in things. Everything is basically meaningless, fear, joy, sex, life, existence. Just enjoy it while it lasts, its just a blip on the radar. Stop asking WHY or what the point is, there is no answer.
Do you think it would make you superior to live solely on logical decisions? It won't. The most logical decision would be to end your own existence to free up resources for those that would put them to better use.
>implying there is a 'we' separate from the reality being perceived
When a light-bulb breaks and you screw in a new one, is the light that comes from this new one a 'different' light than was coming from the old one?
There is no thinker of thoughts, just thoughts.
Individual bodies are similar to nerve endings collecting information to be added to mind at large. I'm not getting oogie boogie on you here. We're already at a point where the information we store will be around for millions or billions of years as long as the entire species doesnt go extinct. As our organizing of information continues we will essentially create a god-like mind which contains us all and will extent to as far back as recorded history.
That's an interesting thought in itself, but my larger point is that the universe itself is what is behind everyone's eyes. Noone dies when the body dies. Death is not something that happens to you, absolute nothingness is not an experience that can be had. The body does not matter. The only thing that can happen to 'you' when you die is the same experience, or the same sort of experience as when you were born.
>>675644881 The individual is a conscious being playing a role in a system, the system itself is its own organism that acts for itself. But that doesn't mean the individuals making up the system aren't acting for themselves. Think of it like Portuguese man o war is individual polyps coming together to function as a separate organism.
>>675645899 No, there is no choice to be part of the system or not. As the system is the sum of its parts. Cancer is a part of system that isn't functioning properly, good thing systems are self correcting.
>>675641343 Come to America. School counselors and family doctors with no understanding of mental health will give free samples to you and your kids. Just tell them you need a higher dose each time you go back for the initial check ups
>>675639073 I've become really numb due to depression and whatnot. I live by logic. It doesn't really work, it's hard to connect with anyone around me and feel comfortable in social situations. I have to fake every social interaction except for school stuff. Plus, since I'm only 22, I don't know enough about the world to know what to do logically in every situation. At first glance it sounds cool and edgy but in reality it's awkward and lonely, not really a good time.
