General rundown:

Job choice: Don't go open general. They'll try to convince you to do it, but don't. In my opinion if you're looking for something to push your career, go anything tech or medical related. Cyber Surety, etc.

BMT Advice: First two weeks are the worst. They to break you down to weed people out. Be strategic. Go unseen, and only stand out if you're ready to take on roles like element leader or dorm chief. Go to church on Sundays whether you're religious or not -- it's the one time of the week you get to relax without the T.I.s around. Also, attention to detail is the name of the game. Help your buddies out, make sure you to keep your shit tight.

Exercise: Doing a lot of body weight workouts will help you tremendously. Don't waste your time with bench press and shit like that. Do sets of push-ups and flutter kicks like its your day job until you're sent to Lackland. You want endurance over pure strength because they'll drop you, A LOT. There's always that one guy who messes up all the time and your whole flight pays for it.

Outside of class, there are still tons of rules. You're not truly free until after your first 180 days. Then you graduate the phase program. Curfew, bullshit mandatory formations that take away from study time. Mandatory fun events. And piss poor PT sessions you have to go to. After DLI, you go to Goodfellow in Texas, and I've heard nothing but bad things about it. You get through there and it's SERE school if you're aircrew. That would be fun though.

Old as fuck Air Force Sergeant here. Here's my advice: Be dedicated. PT is a measure of dedication as it is mostly mind over matter. If you give a shit, you should be able to kill it. So that is your job from now until you get into basic training. Study whatever your recruiter gives you as well. Find a job that suits you and pursue entry into that career field. All jobs are important and each has its benefits and challenges. When you get to your first base, tell your boss you want to be successful. Then, be humble and listen to the advice your boss tells you. Continue to listen. Work your ass off on duty and put in the extra time to improve yourself all around. That means learning everything their is to know about your job. Is the next shift starting a job you need to learn? Keep your ass at work even if your boss doesn't make you. That's dedication. You will be pushed to get involved in the community and work on your education. Do those things and you'll be running the Air Force before too long.

1A8 here, so if your interested in doing 6 years but having many opportunities afterwords linguists is a pretty good gig. If you become a flyer its even better. Essentially you would be an E4 taking home like 1st or 2nd LT pay. The DLI isnt for everybody but if you can get through that your good, then comes goodfellow which is kinda lame as far as lack of independence but your in military tech school suck it up. If you are a flyer youll do some camping stuff in the woods, lots of fun, then your off to your base depending on your airframe.

The district head was at the office the first time I came in, and had me take the practice ASVAB, because I mean, you know. He told me most people around here get a 30-55, so he's expecting me to get around a 60 maybe. I got a 96 on the practice test and 98 on the real test. Did the real one in like, 50 minutes.

1Are you a flyer?
2Were you a shitty airmen that got paperwork?
3Do we have jobs that can utilize your clearance?
4what manner did you fail out, lack of effort vs lack of ability.

If you answered yes to number 2 or got a lack of effort wash out chances are high you wont get a reclass to a new job n booted from the usaf.

If are a flyer and answered no to the other stuff and got a lack of effort they will most likely try and put you in an aircrew job like a 1A8X2 or other aircrew position like an ACE.

If your ground then you'll be used for your clearance and put most likely in a computer oriented field like cyber warrior blah blah.

As far as studying they will give all the free resources for your language. Depending on how well you do during the first 8 weeks you can guage wether you can balance outside activities like being a rope or going out for sports.

I would listen to bbc broadcast in the target language on my phone, watch movies dubbed in the target language and listen to the music.
Youll get alot of resources but its up to you to find what helps you best. The three components are listening, reading and speaking. So talking to the teachers as much as possible will go a long way in helping you pick the colloquial speech instead of the super formal stuff like some of what was said earlier in this thread.
