>>592243347 I could kiss you right now OP, for creating a single gold nugget in the midst of the current shitstorm that are our threads.
I propose an extreme world with fast drifting island-continents, each with their own environment, and due to their relative small size and how cut off they are from the ecosystem, evolution would be fast paced. So, basically a bunch of Australias with all kinds of weather.
Okay, so there's this turtle, right? It's really fucking big. Then there's four huge elephants on top of the turtle with a planet sized flat landmass on their backs. It's a world of water with a couple separated large continents on it. The land mass is disc-shaped. I call it Flat-World.
>>592247328 The world is a desert - completle lack of most life - a wasteland. However, there are hug underground aquaifiers - pools of water, that allow life to flourish above. The islands vary in proximity, but in area's where a number are close, the inhabiants can cross the desert. This has led to some islands become islated and unique in inhabinatnas, whereas the desert is inhabitted by very strange and dangerous creatures.
>>592247941 The Temperate band of Islands is inhabited by a collection of Human, Elve and a small Halfling population - in the form of the Confederation of Peoples - A collection of Island states, and smaller states splitting islands up.
As for races/civilisations I propose two. First draconians Descendent from crocodiles that evolved into bipedal form in their area instead of apes. They would excel in warm environments and due to their wings they would be able to glide great distances, allowing their cities to be build to work in three dimensions instead of the usual two. Society wise I see it being cold and logical, no religion, but progress is slow due to the huge amount of debate over veracity of things.
>>592243347 Mountainous region called Aroch. Defined by 6 tremendously(himalayan) tall mountain ranges that form rings with kansas sized foothill/plain/forested valley type lands within. Each of the 6 regions only connects to the others through a small number of mountain passes. Each 3 of the regions are landlocked and 3 adjacent to the sea. due to the size of the mountains large rivers form and have aggressive floods during spring melts. Each region's isolation creates distinct cultures/economies from one another with lively trade/warfare between them.
>>592250119 I guess the most logical thing to do would to make them more habitable with water. Like crocodiles. Not sea creatures, but y'know. So they're civilizations are usually near edges of the province.
>>592250598 There are rumors of a distant city - too far for any Confederate Citizens to have been - that exists in the middle of the desert - devoid of any aquifier ro spring. It is sustained through magical means, and pure commercial weight - water imported at tremendous rates
>>592250119 The crocodiles are unable to process plant material, meaning they must hunt and raise livestock.
They are renown for their cattle herding.
And by Cattle I mean giant sand-beetle herding.
Beetle-steaks from the croc city of Gyatark are famous.
As for hunting, they hunt the same way as Crocs do IRL: they wait and allow prey to wander next to them. Of course, they hunt big game and disguise their hunting parties by digging in the sand. >>592250453 Planescape, plz.
>>592249192 what if its set in the future, and whatever used to live on this planet was very hightech, but blasted themselfes away in a huge war and whatever living creatures left absorbed the magical leftover radiation and mutated into new races and bits and pieces of technology can be found underground in ancient ruins
>>592252004 I like that because mermaid are kinda lame but i see demons and elder gods as very purposeful forces and i'm thinking about a race that populates a lot of the sea but isn't one cohesive whole
Change the water-magic thing to be what the Crocs use. It is ONLY freshwater.
The Mermen are DESPERATE to find out how to make it work with saltwater, because if they ever figured it out, they'd pretty much win. Forever.
Also, crocs are mostly land-based.
Mermen follow Salmon lifecycles. They are born in rivers, move to saltwater as young adults, and become freshwater when mature. They go back to the ocean after mating, and the cycle repeats for many years
Since the crocs use freshwater for magic, there is also a conflict when the crocs use up the mermen's rivers to cast spells. Adult Mermen often raid when they go to breed.
If they live long enough the mermen permanently become freshwater, and live deep in sacred lakes.
As for the futuristic dimension part of our world, I have a sugestion for the civilisation. They started like we are, humans, but as their technological prowess evolved, the world around them died and decayed, and in the end, the enviroment was deemd too hostile for normal human life. Thankfully there was a solution, several solutions, which led to a rift in society. In one side we have the Corporation. They were an association of of robotic specialists that proposed that human minds should be transferred onto computers and placed into mechanical bodies, as to survive without any hindrance in the wastes, with only the need of periodic maintenance. All seemed well, but eventually its followers became fanatic, and it all became a religion, with the members persuing purity by replacing more and more of their bodies...once indoctrinated no one returns
On the other side we have A faction that decided to evolve mankind itself using genetics and biochemistry, adding to their genes as to survive without further harming the planet- The clash between these two solutions was clear from day one, and it didn't take long before war broke out. Facing endless waves of logical machines their only advantage is insticnt and the ability to regenerate and reproduce normaly, each generation being stronger and stronger
Then in between we would have rebel factions trying to use both techs with huge rejection rates and purists refusing any alteration of humanity.
Here's what I'm picking up A giant planet, covered vastly by water >>592245360 >>592250404 1 giant continent called Aroch descirbed above >>592245761 drifting australia type continents with their own species and habitats >>592246107 some species moved off of the continents and made massive ships to live on the races are still being made, the crocs are cool, and i liked the >>592249876 idea too or maybe each race has its own advantage, like the crocs are huge and strong or some are fast, and the human race needs to be smart and rely on their building skills
>>592252060 Race Idea: 4 armed elf-like race. But it's split into 2 sub-races. The first, the Knostics, are a nature/knowledge loving group that primarily live in the area where a forest meets a mountain. The main city is Pradell, the bulk of people live in the forest mountain side, but over time the Knostics have carved off huge chunks of mountain and levitated and locked them in the sky near the mountain for an expansion to Pradell. Knostics and Pradell are neutral on the trade scale, not relying on it but they are savy. The second sub-race, are the Matoro. They were the group that originally carved up the mountain. However, the bulk of the Knostics disagreed with the destruction of nature, so the Matoro left. They found a deep old forest so that they could be left alone. There they bored into the ground to gain access to resources and build their city (think Utapau). They advanced their manipular-magic to the point where they could create automatons. In addition to the automatons, they used this magic to create enhanced armors (think LoTR meets Tony Stark).
>>592255137 I think the crocs are huge and powerful and should be the dominant race they drove humans off of their land and that's why the humans made the mega ships then the humans should be divided in 2 large factions regular humans, tinkerers who rely on superior invention and technology to survive, not magic then the other half something like this>>592254750 where these humans decided it was in their best interest to put their minds in robotic bodies
>>592255137 Oh! Ohhh! Pick me! PICK ME! I was thinking that if there is magic in this world, there should be tiers to it. Based solely on power alone, and have how it be utilized be left to the wielders.
>Elder God Tier Manipulating the very building blocks of the world God Summoning >God tier High level alchemy Massive Elemental manipulation Elderich beast summoning Pure energy manipulation Teleportation of large objects
>>592255962 These races are fucking brilliant. Never expected this much creativity. Since it's an autumnn like region as well as mountainous, it'd make sense for them to be forest-based. Of course. I'll Add it to the race list.
>>592256121 Still deciding where humans are located. I thought mainland would make sense, but it's still up for consideration.
>>592253954 K since no one is doing the demons I might as well give it a go. Okay So the demon world has been completely detached from all the other worlds in the multidimensions, and only recently a rift had opened to one of the inhabited islands surrounding the main continent of Aroch. The creatures that came out of the rift were severely weakened but still ending up destroying all life there. They don't eat or sleep and live of obtaining proteins and nutrients from fresh kills of their own kind. Hardly any civilization is formed as they all eat and kill each other, but some demons have evolved to control others thus making them a potentially growing threat to the relative peace of the world.
Think traditional Elvin world. Lots of tall buildings with lots of stairs and nature all over the place.
The world is broken up into 3 contaminants, 2 of the contaminant's has 4 country's, the 3rd is ruled by one nation.
there are 3 races, elvs (Of course(They are dominant here)), Twengin (Think squid people), and androids, not half human or half evls, they are machins that have devloped there own life force and are now a form of warlock, no other race has devloped skills in magic.
The single nation contaminant is ruled by the androids as there safe haven after a great war fought with a now forgotten race, they wanted to know the secrets of magic, but the androids said it was a way of accentuation and so was not able to simply tell it to them, so they wanted to take it by force.
This nation is in the west, the 2 other small contaminants are in the east. Politics is as normal over there you may decided names and who is at war with who and what race resides where.
There is however trouble in the west that seeks your attention, a single android missing its left arm has come to your aid, this is the first time anyone has heard from them in 62 years.
>>592257000 >a bunch of dudes who'd discovered an ancient and long lost element and used it's power to develop their technology beyond what any other race has known >live in (relatively) distant land which has absorbed the chemicals or some shit from said element and makes plants/creatures evolve differently >fucking GRAV guys
>>592256646 oh my god they were an evolving race a while ago, they dominated one of the moving continents massive portal opens up their continent drifts through it that's when they turn into demonic creatures, turned evil from that dimension very recently another massive portal opens up, the continent drift back into the world scorched earth, barren landscape the demon species now wants to use the dark magic of the world
>>592256537 And obviously, the higher level the magic, the more qualifications one needs to reach in order to use it. No one has been able to do more than High tier magic for hundreds of years. And just how old is this place, exactly?
There should be magic charms that can augment one's abilities. And I feel like if we have multiple races, then some should be better at magic then others. Partly because they have access to written examples of it, partly due to genetics. I feel like each race should have it's own branch of magic that it excels. in.
>>592252938 whenever someone is buried their body is taken through the earth by collectors and taken to the great church of bones in the underworld where they are freed from their fleshy prison and resurrected as a skellington by the great bonermancer.
>>592255962 this is fun. For the crocs I've got 2 ideas for distinct cultures. 1) The Sik'civ: hunter gatherer nomads along the lines of the apache native american, follow migrating herds and live off of them with complex social structure but no established cities or leaders other than clan level leadership. Highly territorial over the herds they follow and prone to war. 2) The Sie'lon Fisher crocs. Live in the coastal regions and predominantly live off of fishing, harvesting deep sea animals and leviathans. Grow a type of underwater tree whoes wood is super light but incredibly hard and that produce flowers/fruits which are rare and have strange properties. Takes centuries to mature however. The sea "trees" are highly valued and make up a critical trade component for structures, weapons, and the saps/fruits for sorcery components
>>592255597 Rare race essentially made up of magic, since magic itself is so undefined, these creates essentially exist with is and think with it and possess worldly matter with it. No lifespan at all, but can die if magic is used against them. Generally a peaceful people that travel alone to learn the secrets of the world, and to watch among the mortals their whole lives. Personality wise they differ greatly so some can be evil and some can be good. Already the object of some minor civilizations and tribes in the surrounding islands.
>>592259676 Of course! Since the structure of the tunnels contains the remnents of their dead the termite sorcerers can re-arrange the passages to create a labyrinth when under attack. Also can call on the structures to form spike pit traps, exceedingly smooth ramps that are difficult to walk on/climb, secrete acidic fluid that evaporates into poison (doesn't harm the termites). Also, the mermen have a type of collective memory thanks to the eating of their dead. Anybody read xenocide saga? Similar concept there.
They can even be the underground version of Djinn.
There was a huge as fuck schism between the primordial magical forces at the dawn of the world (reflected and interpreted in different ways by each culture. There is almost always some form of division) that resulted in the two main "races" of dijinn.
Now they've split further, and we have both good and evil aboveground dijinn
I vote that the split was over Stasis (Demons) and Change (Djinn)
>>592259911 since this Djinn race is basically magic incarnate, they probably should have a tiny population and a ridiculously hard way of procreating like 2 djinn need to get together and split off a good portion of their magic and combine it to make another djinn. During and after, all 3 are incredibly weak since it will take some time (thinking years) for their magic to regenerate.
>>592260585 this is sick they can change their burrows when under attack, they dont see they sense so they arent at a disadvantage but the other species would be blind and disoriented, making the termites nearly impossible to conquer
>>592260839 I was thinking that they are created by anomalies of the greatest kind. Djinn wouldnt like each other and shouldnt be able to procreate, but when the highest levels of spells are cast some of the world's dimension frames bend and magic warps to create their existence
I HAVE A LOT OF GOOD INFO THOUGH. AND I TRIED TO MISS AS FEW POSTS AS POSSIBLE. CHANCES ARE, IF YOU GAVE IDEAS FOR A RACE, I'VE SAVED IT, DON'T WORRY. THE INFO IS A MESS THOUGH. THINKING OF POSTING IT SOMEWHERE ONLINE.
What about Imgur or some shit?
>>592260965 This has become a very popular idea. I will start adding all this shit to humans.
>>592261203 thinking that a type of Djinn could be born when a sea tree (see >>592258409) reaches the age of 1000years and produces a flower that is pollinated by a leviathan. the resulting fruit becomes a Djinn.with affinity for rain. climbs high into the sky after birth and travels with storm clouds.
I was just thinking earlier today how I should create more and work on my own ideas an consume less. This thread has been a great motivator. >>592261490 Spiderman's only for shitting up stupid threads. This is not that.
>>592260831 holy shit wait. Demons arent inherently evil, they have barely enough thought process to determine meat from no meat, danger from no danger. They could originally be made out of magic, but the only ones with magic in them and can even use it are barely classifed as demons anymore. Most demons are just protein based forms looking for food
>>592259671 are you guys forgetting my fucking suck idea for some super high-tech race? >element retains powerful magnetic properties and cause strange geographic(?) anomalies, such as large "land bridges" >element is used to power this races suits/weapons/machinery >element induces LSD like symptoms when over-exposed, leading to above mentioned race's great scientific/medical leaps
>>592261862 I approve of ancient tree idea. Maybe more like ancient kelp forest for water affinity, volcano for fire affinity, ancient tree for earth/nature affinity, huge af storm for air affinity, high power magic users death for soul/essence affinity, rare animal for primal affinity.
>>592262574 if you check my self-replies you'll see, but I was thinking of a distant land in which everything appears/feels much "lighter" and that "lesser" species like humans and crocs I suppose are able to process and experience higher vibrations/energies
Hell yeah nasty underwater sacrifices done in the deepest trenches of the ocean where the gods of the abyss can see.
Termites could have powerful seers that can sense their surroundings better than any other race and even see through the minds of all other termites. Highest tier would have visions of the past and future.
Demons have the awesome powers of evil like making your enemies rot or bleed.
So Draconians can fly but they need water for magic, they could have a variety of schools of magic like lightbending to create illusions or blind someone. School of vibration would give destructive powers like mini earthquakes or boiling someones blood. Could also be use for signaling. School of levitation could teach steady control of matter to lift and throw objects, hover and would increase flying combat power by giving faster takeoffs, in air "force" attacks and cushioning hard landings.
I was thinking that if there is magic in this world, there should be tiers to it. the higher the magic, the higher the drawback, either to the caster or the environment around it. As such higher tier mages are highly regulated. limited amount of Circles of magic: Primal, Soul/Essense magic(necromancy/Djinn makeup), Illusion What else?
giant mountain so large you cant even some of it because it breaks through cloud cover. uninhabitable by humanoid races. inhabited by stone giants as tall as buildings. and golems. warding off outsiders from awakening some massive mythical deity that sleeps within the mountain.
>>592263826 Well shit, dude. Why didn't you post this earlier? My bad if I didn't see you mention it before.
With this, we can figure out what races would be best at manipulating each type of magic and how they interact. I'm thinking a rock-paper-scissors type of deal.>>592263920 I guess Crocs take magic from freshwater. It's been established.
I like the demon world concept, but I was wondering if there could be a region or an entire sub-continent that is completely overrun by the demon world/ether/oblivion/what ever it's called. Like during the height of one of the great empires, a huge arcane war broke out between two powerful factions, and as the war escalated, the rulers of the factions started looking into more and more dangerous casts (maybe even deals with some of the higher demon lords). This ultimately led to a tear between our world and the other world, allowing the not only demons and monsters, but the very essence of the demon realm to spill out and corrupt the surrounding land, until it was halted by either human magic or divine intervention. So it would be an incredibly dangerous region, but at the same time would have some of the most powerful and valuable materials and artifacts in the world.
