As for races/civilisations I propose two.
First draconians
Descendent from crocodiles that evolved into bipedal form in their area instead of apes. They would excel in warm environments and due to their wings they would be able to glide great distances, allowing their cities to be build to work in three dimensions instead of the usual two. Society wise I see it being cold and logical, no religion, but progress is slow due to the huge amount of debate over veracity of things.

Mountainous region called Aroch.
Defined by 6 tremendously(himalayan) tall mountain ranges that form rings with kansas sized foothill/plain/forested valley type lands within. Each of the 6 regions only connects to the others through a small number of mountain passes. Each 3 of the regions are landlocked and 3 adjacent to the sea. due to the size of the mountains large rivers form and have aggressive floods during spring melts. Each region's isolation creates distinct cultures/economies from one another with lively trade/warfare between them.

Change the water-magic thing to be what the Crocs use. It is ONLY freshwater.

The Mermen are DESPERATE to find out how to make it work with saltwater, because if they ever figured it out, they'd pretty much win. Forever.

Also, crocs are mostly land-based.

Mermen follow Salmon lifecycles.
They are born in rivers, move to saltwater as young adults, and become freshwater when mature. They go back to the ocean after mating, and the cycle repeats for many years

Since the crocs use freshwater for magic, there is also a conflict when the crocs use up the mermen's rivers to cast spells.
Adult Mermen often raid when they go to breed.

If they live long enough the mermen permanently become freshwater, and live deep in sacred lakes.

REMEMBER THE FIRST RULE ABOUT GOOD WORLD BUILDING:

Races =/= culture

There must be different and (probably) opposing cultures of each race.

Not all crocs get along, and their cultures are going to be different.

As for the futuristic dimension part of our world, I have a sugestion for the civilisation.
They started like we are, humans, but as their technological prowess evolved, the world around them died and decayed, and in the end, the enviroment was deemd too hostile for normal human life. Thankfully there was a solution, several solutions, which led to a rift in society.
In one side we have the Corporation. They were an association of of robotic specialists that proposed that human minds should be transferred onto computers and placed into mechanical bodies, as to survive without any hindrance in the wastes, with only the need of periodic maintenance. All seemed well, but eventually its followers became fanatic, and it all became a religion, with the members persuing purity by replacing more and more of their bodies...once indoctrinated no one returns

On the other side we have A faction that decided to evolve mankind itself using genetics and biochemistry, adding to their genes as to survive without further harming the planet- The clash between these two solutions was clear from day one, and it didn't take long before war broke out. Facing endless waves of logical machines their only advantage is insticnt and the ability to regenerate and reproduce normaly, each generation being stronger and stronger

Then in between we would have rebel factions trying to use both techs with huge rejection rates and purists refusing any alteration of humanity.

Race Idea: 4 armed elf-like race. But it's split into 2 sub-races. The first, the Knostics, are a nature/knowledge loving group that primarily live in the area where a forest meets a mountain. The main city is Pradell, the bulk of people live in the forest mountain side, but over time the Knostics have carved off huge chunks of mountain and levitated and locked them in the sky near the mountain for an expansion to Pradell. Knostics and Pradell are neutral on the trade scale, not relying on it but they are savy.
The second sub-race, are the Matoro. They were the group that originally carved up the mountain. However, the bulk of the Knostics disagreed with the destruction of nature, so the Matoro left. They found a deep old forest so that they could be left alone. There they bored into the ground to gain access to resources and build their city (think Utapau). They advanced their manipular-magic to the point where they could create automatons. In addition to the automatons, they used this magic to create enhanced armors (think LoTR meets Tony Stark).

Okay So the demon world has been completely detached from all the other worlds in the multidimensions, and only recently a rift had opened to one of the inhabited islands surrounding the main continent of Aroch. The creatures that came out of the rift were severely weakened but still ending up destroying all life there. They don't eat or sleep and live of obtaining proteins and nutrients from fresh kills of their own kind. Hardly any civilization is formed as they all eat and kill each other, but some demons have evolved to control others thus making them a potentially growing threat to the relative peace of the world.

Think traditional Elvin world.
Lots of tall buildings with lots of stairs and nature all over the place.

The world is broken up into 3 contaminants, 2 of the contaminant's has 4 country's, the 3rd is ruled by one nation.

there are 3 races, elvs (Of course(They are dominant here)), Twengin (Think squid people), and androids, not half human or half evls, they are machins that have devloped there own life force and are now a form of warlock, no other race has devloped skills in magic.

The single nation contaminant is ruled by the androids as there safe haven after a great war fought with a now forgotten race, they wanted to know the secrets of magic, but the androids said it was a way of accentuation and so was not able to simply tell it to them, so they wanted to take it by force.

This nation is in the west, the 2 other small contaminants are in the east. Politics is as normal over there you may decided names and who is at war with who and what race resides where.

There is however trouble in the west that seeks your attention, a single android missing its left arm has come to your aid, this is the first time anyone has heard from them in 62 years.

For the crocs I've got 2 ideas for distinct cultures.
1) The Sik'civ: hunter gatherer nomads along the lines of the apache native american, follow migrating herds and live off of them with complex social structure but no established cities or leaders other than clan level leadership. Highly territorial over the herds they follow and prone to war.
2) The Sie'lon Fisher crocs. Live in the coastal regions and predominantly live off of fishing, harvesting deep sea animals and leviathans. Grow a type of underwater tree whoes wood is super light but incredibly hard and that produce flowers/fruits which are rare and have strange properties. Takes centuries to mature however. The sea "trees" are highly valued and make up a critical trade component for structures, weapons, and the saps/fruits for sorcery components

There was a huge as fuck schism between the primordial magical forces at the dawn of the world (reflected and interpreted in different ways by each culture. There is almost always some form of division) that resulted in the two main "races" of dijinn.

Termites could have powerful seers that can sense their surroundings better than any other race and even see through the minds of all other termites. Highest tier would have visions of the past and future.

Demons have the awesome powers of evil like making your enemies rot or bleed.

So Draconians can fly but they need water for magic, they could have a variety of schools of magic like lightbending to create illusions or blind someone. School of vibration would give destructive powers like mini earthquakes or boiling someones blood. Could also be use for signaling.
School of levitation could teach steady control of matter to lift and throw objects, hover and would increase flying combat power by giving faster takeoffs, in air "force" attacks and cushioning hard landings.

I like the demon world concept, but I was wondering if there could be a region or an entire sub-continent that is completely overrun by the demon world/ether/oblivion/what ever it's called. Like during the height of one of the great empires, a huge arcane war broke out between two powerful factions, and as the war escalated, the rulers of the factions started looking into more and more dangerous casts (maybe even deals with some of the higher demon lords). This ultimately led to a tear between our world and the other world, allowing the not only demons and monsters, but the very essence of the demon realm to spill out and corrupt the surrounding land, until it was halted by either human magic or divine intervention. So it would be an incredibly dangerous region, but at the same time would have some of the most powerful and valuable materials and artifacts in the world.
