I think this is the right board for this.

For quite a while I've thought archery looked like fun. I'm not the most physically fit, I know, shocker, and I've been looking for something to help get me to get up a bit more. I've tried my hand at knife throwing, which is actually really fun, but it strains my back and I'm not in the best condition for that. Don't know if I ever will be. I don't know if shooting a bow would be better or worse for this, but I'd still like to at least try it out.

The problem is, I live in a small town. No club or anything, noone I know who does it, and I don't have much money. All I want is a simple bow that's not going to cost too much in case it's too hard on me. I just don't know where to start though. I don't care about all these bows with pulleys and little holders for your arrows on it or whatever. A simple cheap wooden bow would be fine with me.

I was hopin someone on here could help me out. Tips on finding a good bow, if there's anything I should know before even considering it or what. I'd really appreciate any help I can get.

Hey man, i don't know shit about arrows but I definitely wanna own one at some point. You probably want to look for a traditional bow with light draw weight. Do you research online, watch youtube videos too and make sure you find the right draw weight. That's all i can suggest, i hope you find the right one!

We used to have general archery threads before WoW showed up. They also have one on /out/. I'm no robin hood, but this is the basic standard advice for newfriends iirc.

>First you need to go to an archery shop and try them out.
>Then buy one with detachable arms so that you can increase the draw strength as you improve.
>Getting a bow that is too heavy will make you develop bad technique.
>Make sure the arrows are the right length for the bow so you don't shoot yourself in the hand.
>Inspect your arrows for cracks so they don't splinter into your hand.
>Aluminum arrows don't splinter, but wood and carbon fly better.
That's all I can think of right now.
Also these videos are pretty nice. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLb-rA4jteZRJiBZ2WyvGLHmyympA3fxup
Its a pretty fun hobby tbch. Hope your back finds it agreeable and try not to loose too many arrows.

>I don't care about all these bows with pulleys and little holders for your arrows on it or whatever.
Good. Those are compound bows and they are for tactikool plebs who play games on easy-mode to make themselves look hardcore.

these advises are very good.

I started archery a few months ago and i really enjoy it.
I wanted to start cheap, in case i didn't like it that much.
Got myself a bear titan which is a sturdy, universal 30 # beginners bow around 40 usd.
I shoot it in the backyard in a range of about 30 to 35 yards.

It's good and fun and i enjoy it but a replacement string and 3 decent arrows to achieve some good results were as much as the bow itself.
Also its harder to pull and less accurate than a similar recurve take down bow and I'm not able to upgrade the strength of the bow.
So consider this if you really want to start on low cost.

It is said that the samick sage is a nobrainer in case of cost/quality/performance ratio.

How in the fuck do you strain your back throwing knives? Archery puts strain on your back, shoulders and I guess to a minor degree your fingers. If you start your self off with manageable draw weights and pace yourself u should be fine, like any other sport. There's not much moving in archery just standing around doing very repetitive motions and strain on your back and arms.

you gotta ask on /k/, bruh

Another decent choice for absolute beginners is a PSE snake. Also, what replacement string did you use for your bear titan? I was thinking about buying one for friends came over and I didn't have to share my bow but I thought the string looked kinda weak.
