The meme is that kung fu is bad. Because a lot of it (Shaolin particularly) is taught as a performing art rather than as a fighting system.

I'd say give it a try and be open-minded. But whatever you practice, always remember that the big angry drunk dude in da stretz is not going to throw a single slow-motion attack and wait patiently for you to counter. Self-defense must be practiced with speed, resistance and aggression.

I have heard and even seen and light spared with a few styles Crane but I have never heard of "Feeding Crane" style.
