Shawn would never have put Marty over. The whole reason HBK went stratospheric was because he put clear water between himself and his past career. If he had feuded with Marty, then neither of them would ever have escaped their status as "the former Rocker", and would have stayed midcard for life.

From a personal point of view, Shawn played it really well for himself.

Some people just can't get clean. The cycle of chemical dependence starts too early, or is too deeply ingrained to ever be removed. It's actually more amazing that he is still relatively functional. He's aged better than X Pac or Dynamite Kid or any other high flying little guy who needed something to ease the pain.
