They have to.

They want to completely eliminate their competition by syphoning their top talent, resulting in WWE having a LOT of main event talent. So much main event talent that they can't all be given the spotlight, so their character work fades and they become midcarders like AJ and even Cena. To prevent this overcrowding, they open sub-promotions like NXT, 205, and a separate Smackdown brand that offer new "top spots" to maintain the value of floundering main eventers. Problem is, when one starts to look big, they suck away its stars to RAM. This upsets the show's chemistry and effectively cheapens the fame of everyone involved with the show.

This results in big PPV's being chock full of matches for titles so marginalized that newer fans don't give a damn at all about what they're watching.

Pretty much. The entire reason WWE started pandering to Indians was just so they could get first pick of the wrestlers from Great Khali's school in India. TNA already had a strong presence there so they were going to get the pick before WWE.

I have a feeling before long we'll be seeing more scragglers from New Japan since they're trying to establish themselves in the U.S. WWE will take anyone they can get and do anything possible to prevent that.

Could have sworn Ricochet was going to WWE soon since he lost that match in LU and was let go...
