It's a little too simplistic to just say it was considered beta. Russo's about as far as you can get from the Sopranos on the Italian spectrum, just cuz his name ends in a vowel doesn't mean he's held to the same standards, he's an artist/entertainer/writer/whatever, which leans classically liberal in social norms.
