Mick Foley gets permanently over in early 1999 and is the clear third behind Rock/Austin in crowd reaction. Did WWE book him well or was there no stopping him? It took awhile to get to that stage even after the HIAC.
>>
Both really. He's the same as Daniel Bryan but with less resistance from the company when it came to letting him get over.
>>
>>2903885
He's not the same as Daniel Bryan at all. He was gold on the mic, where Bryan was okay at best, and awful at his worst.

And while he could play the underdog, like Bryan always did, he could also play a face OR heel maniac
>>
>>2903925

I think he just meant in that they would've got over regardless of booking.

Where's this idea Bryan only played the underdog?
>>
>>2903925
Bryan has had memorable parts as both face and heel throughout his entire career. He's also great on the mic provided he gets to take the approach he himself wants to do (something Mick never had to worry about in his time since promo bits weren't as scripted.) The reference bit to Bryan Danielson in NXT, all his Team Hell No segments, honestly even the virgin/vegan segment, the promo against Cena, the HBK segment, the one where he pisses off HHH, and his retirement speech were all fantastic.
>>
>>2903925
Also not to mention no chill Bryan in Talking Smack who's arguably the true highlight of that show.
>>
>>2903925
>Bryan couldn't be a heel

>>
>>2903925
Chickenshit heel Bryan is what got him over you moron
>>
Basically 90s Daniel Bryan. He wasn't the chosen one, and was getting over when he shouldn't have, so they did their best to tank him.
>>
>>2903944
Daniel Bryan's heel run fucking sucked. It was just Christians exact angle with a woman in tow. He can't do shit on the mic without the crowd cutting him off. Now because of his popularity. It's just a huge crutch. He wants the crowd to get involved so he can eat his time and walk back up the ramp.

What is the point of this thread?

Did the book him well? you said he was over like rover so you just answered your own question. In addition numbers were through roof although like everybody he was riding the Austin wave at the time.

No stopping him? you have the ability of hindsight..... Jesus fucking Christ, his body was breaking down. He retired a year later.
>>
Mick Foley in any other era would have been a upper mid carder at best

He was lucky enough to be associated with Rock and Austin

anyone who worked with them where over by association
>>
>>2906120
Foley got over because of his feuds with Undertaker

18+
>>
>>2906133
not in a big way

after the Undertaker feud he was in the tag team division getting beat up by new age outlaws every week

even after the hell in the cell he wasn't that much more over

it was when he started using the sock that he felt like a full time main event guy

Reminder that Melzter and the smarks thought Mick Foley should headline WM 15 with Austin over The Rock

Austin/Rock did more ppv buys than the year before which had Mike Tyson involved smarks and Melzter clueless about how business works as usual
>>
>>2903873
>Retired from full time competing at 34 during his prime

Remember, it's never worth the damage on your body for cheap pops. Throwing yourself off the Cell every time you're in one is pathetic

Dear god the amount of revisionist history and outright asshatery is insane.

Debut- summer 97 he was a monster of the week villain, nobody cared about him except smarks. Then he had that set of home interviews with Ross and debuted the 3 faces of foley and became one of the hottest upper mid card acts they had. Taker throwing him off the cell made him a star, Then the damn sock made him a superstar, the absolute war he had with the rock through winter 98-99 only cemented both their places at the top of the card. Foleys body was already failing him though so despite being booked great the first several years, he was booked like shit throughout most 99 after the rock feud, and even then he got a world title win at summerslam, and the rock & sock connection. However I'm not sure any of that cancels out getting beat by Val Venis on a b-show, or being part of the incredibly awful union.

Yep, and wrestlemania is the draw, not the wresters
>>
>>2906133
Undertaker wasn't very big until Kane got involved in that era. Foley wasn't good, he didn't look good and his voice constantly breaks in promo.

Foley is to wrestling what Jackass 3D is to movies. Sure you will watch it but you're just hoping a retard dies from his own stupidity more than anything you enjoy.
>>
>>2906481
>wrestlemania is the draw
You're right about that

not always been the case

WM 14 and 15 where so huge they made Wrestlemania itself the draw

WM 16 was awful and had a fatal four as the main event but still did insane numbers
>>
>>2906292
I disagree with Meltz here. Foley would have died in a face v face match with Austin, Austin was just way more over.

It did feel more like McMahon w/Rock v Austin, but that's fine. That's the story that they had literally been telling the entire year. Only the other option would have been Vince himself vs Stone Cold.
>>
>>2906515
Certainly not, but for the last 10 years or so it has been the name WrestleMania that draws.

why was 19's buyrate so low?
>bork v angle
>rock v austin
>vince v hogan

>>
>>2903873
It was the WWE's booking that got him over. He played a sympathetic character that would do anything for the fans. Booking him in a tag team with Austin and the Rock sure elevated his popularity. He was side kick.
>>
>>2906578
>disagree with Meltz

He literally never said it, that guy is posting fake news

>>2906584
There's a bunch of weird extenuating circumstances.

>>2906592
Foley was already mega-over before he teamed with either of them. 18+
>>
>>2906584
Massive overhaul of the PPV system, wrestling was down at the time, heavy focus on McMahon-Vince while Vince was not a PPV draw.

Foley was main eventing in late 96-early 97 after he took Paul Bearer from Undertaker

He also main evented Raw with Shawn Michaels and was tag team champions with Stone Cold in 1997
>>
>>2906508
>Undertaker wasn't very big until Kane got involved in that era
