ITT Only the greatest wrestling PPV stages (any promotion)
On a side note will WWE ever bring back unique stages for each PPV?
They don't have the money anymore. Notice they are not even doing pyro anymore. They might as well go back to the blue curtain and the light up wwe (wwf) sign at the entrance.
>On a side note will WWE ever bring back unique stages for each PPV?
Costs too much. They blow all their set money on WM.
>>2894188
About 50% of the reason I'd tune into a PPV was for the set
Damn shame
>>2894138
They should just keep the sets in storage in Kentucky or wherever the fuck their HQ is. And bring them out for a PPV. It'd eat into their Wrestlemania budget, but quite frankly Wrestlemania just needs a large stadium to be good. It's the only PPV that can draw a dime on its own merit, and not via gimmicks and stages.
>>2894188
it's fucking bullshit. they have the money, they just don't wanna spend it on something that ACTUALLY HELPS the product. People fucking love unique sets and pyro, and these idiots have to take it away for no real reason.
>>2894346
you're like a woman who cheers for sports teams based on how much they like the jersey they wear... you might even be worse
Armageddon 99 with all the broken cars.
Actually, pretty much any armageddon ppv had an awesome stage. I remember the Punk - Undertaker one, where they built a burning half destroyed castle
the stages are fine, this year's Mania stage was ridiculous... you wanna see shitty stages, go watch NJPW or WCW.... try Halloween Havoc 98, it's a fucking inflatable pumpkin and shitty tombstones you might see in someone's front yard in late October
KOTR 2001 had an amazing set.
>>2894721
the centerpiece is an impressive prop, i'll give you that, but the screens are so much better nowadays it's like a fucking joke comparison
Green S Summerslam had goat stages
Shit PPV. Great set.
The Backlash (2001?) set with the swinging pendulums.
Doesn't even have to be an expensive set at all. Just go somewhere cool that isn't a fucking basketball arena.
>>2895028
That was 2004 no?
WM24, pretty fucking rad show as well
Didn't they want to bring back bash?
Obligatory
>can't spend money on sets or pyro
>can spend money destroying an ambulance and a semi-trailer for an angle that goes fucking nowhere.
Whatever, Vince.
What would a Great Balls of Fire set have looked like back in the day?
Give them a little credit, though, WM33 had a fucking awesome stage.
If they just did unique stages for the big 4, I'd be satisfied.
Shit show, awesome arena
>>2894647
I was pretty casual when unique sets were a thing senpai, literally the same year they started using the same set for everything is when I got more into it.
>>2895793
>Three (3) Snickers ads
>>2894626
>they have the money,
They clearly don't though...
Backlash swinging spikes
Wrestlemania 27
>>2896287
>tfw wanting wrestlers to get impaled on them
>>2896281
they spent 5 fucking million on tout, they have money. they choose not to use it.
>>2895793
I always loved the Halloween Havoc set. Even during the early/mid 90s when it was much cheesier and tacky I still loved it.
It doesn't have to be expensive, just something that kind of stands out from everything else.
>>2894741
There are far too many screens now, it's too busy, over polished and lost all it's grittyness
It's like you're watching the Nickelodeon kids choice awards
>>2896296
That huge tron and all the different graphics they used was so cool. I wish they did that again.
>>2896880
Agreed.
>>2896880
Not just that, 90% of the entrances don't use the floor screen to its potential. Mahal and Corbin are really the only ones to use the screens effectively.
Also I unironically loved the old impact zone
>>2897414
>Also I unironically loved the old impact zone
Same. Simple yet effective. Fuck, I pretty much loved pre-Hogan TNA in general. I also liked how the X-division matches reminded me of the WCW cruiserweight matches from the mid 90's. Shame they ruined it with Hogan & Friends.
>>2894138
They better bring back the fucking fist for Smackdown 1000.
>>2897414
Baron Corbin has one of my favorite entrances just because they use the floor screen perfectly
GOAT entrance set that added so much to the show and lent such an amazing atmosphere to the GOAT pay per view (Jeff Hardy diving off that NYC taxi cab, Triple H and Cactus Jack brawling in the street). I miss the old MSG setup bros.
They cut pyro. They aren't bringing back unique stages. The PPVs suck nowadays anyways.
>>2896281
They have enough to pay trash like Hawkins, Summer Rae, Jinder, Mojo, Zack, Lana, the Colons, and the Ball family to kill the product.
>>2897700
WWE is slowly turning into an indie promotion, high production values have always been one of the few things they had going for them.
GOAT
>>2897703
Job guys are necessary, it would be irresponsible to always rely on local talent.
As for Summer, Lana and all the C-tier celebrities they bring in, yeah...
another GOAT
fuck massive screens and pyro and shit
just keep it simple
I'm gonna post more of my personal GOATs here
another GOAT
just a circle with the logo on top
it was used for other ppvs too
but I love the simplicity
What makes Mania 14 stand out though is the bent entrance. I love the bent aisles. 19 had it too, although on a much bigger scale. There's somethign epic about them.
Not 11 and 12 though. That was a full 90 degree bend. Wasn't aesthetic.
>>2897510
didnt they have heels come from one side and faces from the other? fucking nice
>>2897726
i dont know why i unironically love this stage
>>2894720
Pleb detected WCW had fun stages, the most boring ones were the Salmboree stages but even that had its charm
>>2897741
This is my shit right here. Remember going over to a friend's house to watch it. Also, being from Chicago, this hits a soft spot.
>Those buildings
>Wrestler's portraits hanging all around
>Comfy atmosphere
>Hot crowd
>GOAT theme
This is my pick, for sure.
>>2897683
what a clusterfuck of screens
>>2897755
>seeing the Eddie photo
>am 10 at WM22
>remember he died not long before that
>fuck
>>2897722
i loved how every time they had a ppv at MSG they kept it simple and intimate with the crowd
>>2897755
yep. GOAT theme indeed. Fun and peppy but somehow with a serious big-match, game-time feel.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kpn9AgpX3l0
And dat Chicago crowd.
Obv the booking (and wrestling) was a clusterfuck. But this IMO this Mania had the GOAT aesthetic. At least among the small arena Manias.
Another GOAT of mine
>>2897656
I think that's RR2000, I was going to post that as well. Entrance coming right to you, cab over head. Very cool.
Going back to cheesy is better than boring. I always got a kick out of WCW Beach Blast/ Bash at the Beach sets. They always had little gimmicky stuff like sand, or oversize beach balls, life stands or surf boards depending the year.
>>2897798
>Taker vs Giant Gonzalez
>>2897712
WWE has way too many job/low card guys I don't get why WWE doesn't release the jobbers that don't even make it to TV anymore.
>>2897741
Because this stage is the all screens approach they're currently go with, but used properly so you aren't overwhelmed by walls of LEDs. Every entrance was unique and memorable and there's no wasted space anywhere on that stage.
>>2897741
So weird to see a arena WM now that stadiums became the norm. It's like a Wrestlemania for ants.
Going old school, but I like the early KOTR set. It became legendary when Ahmed Johnson bust through it
>>2896296
The simplicity of this stage is what makes me love it so much. It's literally just a big ass titantron.
I always loved the MSG stages. Really unique. Nothing special or spectacular, just a small entry and a wrestler walking though the crowd.
>>2900135
Except in WM 20 they had a screen covering that entrance.
I keep debating this in my mind. Was WCW Saturday Night set awesome or not?
>dat Backlash set
I also dug the set where the wrestlers walked under stacked ladders -- ME was Austin v. Vince/Shane.
>>2894774
What SS was this? 2008?
the Armageddon set was good
>>2895796
Like a 50's drive in theater or a drive thru
