Basically the WWE was worried the UK market was going to get competitive when there was talk of a TV deal for World of Sport on ITV. (Second most watched channel in the UK).

So the WWE threw together that UK Championship last minute, and snatched up a load of the UK talent to sign to it, basically to get a degree of control over what they could and couldn't do.

Then they signed those deals with ICW and Progress under the auspices of giving them more exposure, when the reality it's to stop them getting too big and protecting the WWE's wrestling monopoly.

Basically, rather than focus on it's own shit product and look at why it's failing, the WWE is more interested in keeping any form of competition non-existant.
